StlGal Posted January 21, 2010 #3 Share Posted January 21, 2010 I always wear long evening gowns to the formal nights. They don't call them "formal nights" for nothing. :p We take advantage of it to dress up.
Desert Cruizers Posted January 21, 2010 #4 Share Posted January 21, 2010 You will see long or cocktail dresses. Formal nights for my husband & I are a treat. We are in leisure clothes all week so on a cruise, formal night is something special.
GlasgowSubby Posted January 21, 2010 #5 Share Posted January 21, 2010 Traveling from U.K. with baggage weight limits we are giving serious thought to attending any formal night, more so as we may need the extra space for homecoming prezzies. That having been said, on one cruise our tablemates were from U.K. - she had on a lovely full ballgown. I really wondered how she packed it as it would have taken up the better part of a large suitcase. The other couple at the table did not want to eat in the MDR that night as they had not packed formal clothes - we assured them that they would be fine in a sports jacket for the husband and nice slacks and blouse for the wife - and they were. The table didn't "match" in degree of dress, but we all enjoyed the company.

Kikkycat Posted January 21, 2010 #11 Share Posted January 21, 2010 As mentioned you will see all kinds. Last year, on our first cruise, I wore one floor-length elaborate gown the first night (technically the captain's welcome party although I didn't see hide nor hair of him) and a chiffon cocktail dress the second formal night. This year both dresses are cocktail, although one would be considered "tea-length" if I weren't so tall. I would wear the long dress again if it didn't take up so much room in the suitcase.
