minniann007 Posted February 14, 2010 #1 Share Posted February 14, 2010 We've been on the Liberty of the Seas last year and tried Portofino. The food and atmosphere were very good. We are going back next April and was wondering if we should try Chops this time. Is it as good as Portofino ? My husband loves beef and he was disapointed with meat in the regular dining room. Anyone ??? Thanks :)

I don't know what it is but I prefer Portofino's - that was probably the only dissapointment on the Oasis - no Portofino's!! Either way, the steaks in both are excellent - but for me the Pasta starters and ambiance are what gives Portofino's the edge - although my wife said the Mud Pie in Chops was the best dessert she has ever had - & she is a bit of an expert on chocolate!!:)
bluegirlum Posted February 14, 2010 #3 Share Posted February 14, 2010 If you do a search there have been some recent threads on this, but I would say Portofino. Did you try the steak in Portofino? BF had a filet in there and it was fantastic--so much better than the MDR. I like Portofino because you can get a good steak, as well as options like seafood skewer and Italian options. Rare silentbob007 Posted February 14, 2010 #4 Share Posted February 14, 2010 I skew towards Portofino because it is cheaper and many of the dishes at Chops have a main dining room counterpart.

julianne74 Posted February 15, 2010 #10 Share Posted February 15, 2010 We're fresh off the Radiance and would do Portofino again but probably not Chops. The side dishes and dessert were great in Chops, but Portofino was more well rounded, less busy, and in our experience was a little better. Of course, it could be personal preferences. The truffle/marscapone pasta dish in Portofino is not to be missed -- just get a side of it. :)
duncanmaria Posted February 15, 2010 #11 Share Posted February 15, 2010 We've had great experiences with both! We've dined 3 times in each venue over our last 3 cruises and each cruise, one or the other is our favorite. You can't go wrong with either. Oasis doesn't have a Portofino?? Incredible!! Theresa522 Posted February 15, 2010 #15 Share Posted February 15, 2010 We ALWAYS eat at Portofinos at least twice each cruise. OMG it is the best!! We have never eaten at Chops but will as soon as we go on a ship that has it. :D

Ate at Porto Fino on the Mariner and loved it. Your response just led me to decide that this time we´ll also try Chops. Don´t know how "statistical and scientific" our report will be but a juxtaposition it will be! Getting my taste buds ready.... Karen

pauly Posted February 15, 2010 #18 Share Posted February 15, 2010 Basically both, but Chops was better food/experience. We went to both, but went back to Chops for a second time on the last night of the cruise.

The desserts were incredible. Service was impeccable.
roysmith99 Posted February 15, 2010 #21 Share Posted February 15, 2010 We cruised on Indy and ate in both, but probably Portofino took the edge. It has to be the seafood skewer they serve, just fabulous. .

AtlantaAlly Posted February 16, 2010 #23 Share Posted February 16, 2010 I would go with portofino because it is the one meal that stands out above all others (including Chops) from our engagement cruise. I still remember the tiramisu- melted in my mouth, can't wait to get back for another! (Or two!)
