so we have decided to criuse with our son for the first time. We have only cruised Royal Caribean in the past (5times). We live in Chicago and we are hoping to cruise sometime between March 26-April 4, 2010. we are open for port cities and cruiselines. I was hoping to book a 5 nighter that is kid friendly witout breaking the bank and lots for our lil'guy to do. Any suggestion? Thanks in advance!

I would check and see what is still available since that is prime spring break time. We are on the Majesty 4 nighter and some categories are sold out (and prices have gone up and up since we booked in Aug). We chose this cruise for our kids' first since it was a) good price (at the time at least!) b) had interesting ports. We know the ship is older but figured we'd start here and then move up to the bigger and newer ones if the kids liked it. Good Luck!

We have done Disney, Carnival, Royal and HAL and Celebrity - even the last 2 which are known for older crowds have a lot of kids on board during the school breaks - just pick a line that works best for you and your schedule - and availability at this point - your son will have a great time on any line.

Current 5-day cruises starting under $500pp for those dates: Royal Caribbean's Grandeur of the Seas sailing out of Tampa and Carnival has Fantasy out of Mobile, Fascination out of Jacksonville, Inspiration out of Tampa, and Triumph out of New Orleans. Various ports of call are Costa Maya, Cozumel, Progresso, Nassau, and Key West. Good luck and have fun! :)

It's not the cruise fare, but the airfare that is going to break the bank...EM

We are in Chicago and this is so true. We are seeing very high airfares to catch the 3/28 Westerdam our of FLL. There are some very good last minute fares on the ship itself. There are even a number of three person cabins that it sounds like what you will need. The issue by far is going to be air fare.
