amartin042 Posted March 8, 2010 #27 Share Posted March 8, 2010 http://www.portcanaveralcruise.net/?page_id=35 Thanks...that's the same one I am watching, but I don't see any emergency vehicles.
reallyitsmema Posted March 8, 2010 #28 Share Posted March 8, 2010 Thanks...that's the same one I am watching, but I don't see any emergency vehicles. I don't see any activity there either. I would guess that they docked down the channel where the Disney ship recently docked when there were 4 ships in port on a Sunday instead of the usual 3. Plibster Posted March 8, 2010 #29 Share Posted March 8, 2010 Yes, they do. Had to learn it first had with my own daughter. We were on Disney Magic back in 2005. They tried to dock the ship 3 times at Castaway Cay (where we would be taken by a smaller boat over to Nassau and then to a military base for a transport back to the states) - the ship kept turning sideways with the current. The captain determined that a helicopter would be too unsafe for us (my daughter was 8 months old) he felt she was more secure in the ship's medical center. So he took the entire ship to Port Canaveral where we were met by an ambulance. So yes, they can and do turn ships around. Wow, had no idea. Lucky for you and your family. I see by your pics that everything turned out ok. Happy cruising!!

Hope you and your family doing well. Mick Hello Mick. We're doing well, and still cruising.

reallyitsmema Posted March 8, 2010 #34 Share Posted March 8, 2010 That's what I was just thinking. Doesn't anyone live near there and own a scanner? Geesh!;) Someone does, he talks to the captains sometimes from his boat when he watches the ships go out. Ummmmm, uksimonusa or something like that, will search. micbooth Posted March 8, 2010 Author #38 Share Posted March 8, 2010 I have the emergency scanner for Brevard County on now and nothing really is going on. My niece lives by the port but is at work and can't get a hold of her. I will probably hear something later, her neighbor is one of the pilots for the port. Papa: Glad to hear all is well with you. Hopefully sailing on Freedom one of these days. Going to sail on the Dream soon if husband makes it home from PA. Mick

micbooth Posted March 8, 2010 Author #40 Share Posted March 8, 2010 On the scanner site, they have incidents written out but with a 2-3 hour delay. If I find something I will post it as soon as I see it. Mick

Texas Harley Rider Posted March 8, 2010 #46 Share Posted March 8, 2010 If you hold your curser over the arrows it shows time. The upper track is when the ship came in this morning. It starts 20 to 30 miles out as thats the range for AIS
LouisvilleDon Posted March 8, 2010 #47 Share Posted March 8, 2010 Several years ago we were on the Mariner and a older lady fell and broke her hip. It was too windy for a helicopter to come out and pick her up so we turned around and went back to PC. We had early dining and the captain announced that we had to go back to PC. We did not go back to the cruise terminal but docked in front of the casino boats and they took her and her husband off there and took her to the hospital. Hope everyone is OK. We never left dinner to see where we ported. I live 20 minutes from PC but never went outside to see where we stopped or what was happening.
