Too blessed to be stressed Posted April 3, 2010 #1 Share Posted April 3, 2010 I read other carnival roll calls to get ideas what to do. I saw slot pulls organized which sounds like fun. slot pull: each couple that participates gives $20 to go in the dollar slots. Each person gets to pull the handle 10 times. At the end you divide up the winnings between the players. For those who have done this on thier roll call, what has been the outcome? I hear cruise ship slots a pretty tight. salty dingo Posted April 3, 2010 #3 Share Posted April 3, 2010 I don't see how a community slot pull would have any different odds than an individual doing the same thing with $20 by themself. In the long run, you lose money - guaranteed, so the typical amount you end up with is less than you started with either way.
mrpayroll Posted April 3, 2010 #4 Share Posted April 3, 2010 WE do this when we go to any casino. It gets you more pulls for your dollar but unless you hit something BIG, you don't gain much when you split the winnings up...
maxamuus Posted April 3, 2010 #5 Share Posted April 3, 2010 We did it on the Mariner last year. Put in 20 and left with 0. Im sure that is usually the outcome but it was fun and lasted about a hour.
firefly333 Posted April 3, 2010 #6 Share Posted April 3, 2010 We had a slot pull for our roll call. I think everyone won about $40. Not big money but at least they won not lost their $20 everyone put in. It was RCL and a decent sized roll call which helped.
BND Posted April 3, 2010 #7 Share Posted April 3, 2010 It doesn't increase anyone's winnings or chances of winnings. Each pull is a totally random event.
cruise_pirate Posted April 3, 2010 #8 Share Posted April 3, 2010 We did this on the Fantasy last sept went to a $5.00 machine and everyone put in $20.00 ended up leaving with nothing.. Did it again on the Freedom of the Seas in Oct. and we all walked away with about $60.00 the biggest thing is when it comes to deciding to cash out or let it ride. We hit two good hits and cashed out as a group and tripled our money:) Do not go in thinking you will get rich but was fun and drew a pretty good crowd wondering why 20 or so people were all hanging at one $5.00 machine.. Also gave us all a chance in our roll call to get to know eachother a little better.
Luckysll Posted April 3, 2010 #9 Share Posted April 3, 2010 Our group did this on the Pride last year. We each put in $21 on a $3 max slot machine and ended up with $15 each. Just go into it expecting to have fun, not to win big.
glrounds Posted April 3, 2010 #10 Share Posted April 3, 2010 Best way to play the slots is be PLATINUM and get the FREE $20 entry into the slot tournament. I've only done it twice and finished dead last on the first go-around both times, but it was fun . . . and you can't be the price. :D
cruisecruisecruise1234567 Posted April 3, 2010 #11 Share Posted April 3, 2010 It doesn't increase anyone's winnings or chances of winnings. Each pull is a totally random event. Not completely true. Yes each pull is a random event, but on a $5 machine you get 4 pulls, with 20 people you get 80 pulls on a 3 line 32 image machine using the $20. The total spins on a 3 line 32 image is 32,768 possible combinations. So 80 pulls out of 32,768 is better than 4,so as a group the chance of winning is greater. As far a making money or increasing your winnings, that of course gets back to 80 pulls versus 4 theory.

Totally random, so no it doesnt increase your chances of winning. With your logic, the more you play the more you win, which is not true. Each pull has EXACTLY the same odds each time. 80 pulls doesn't give you any better odds of winning anythng than 4 do becuase it is totally random. It would increase your odds if each combination was only able to come up one time per so many pulls, which it doesn't.
katiel53 Posted April 3, 2010 #16 Share Posted April 3, 2010 We have done this on two cruises. The first one we each ended up $6 to the good. The second time we lost about $7 each. It is fun to do with a lot of people. Our rules were that all payoff remained until the end and the money from the payoffs were divided between all the players. We played $5 machines that took 2 coins. So each player got to do two pulls. The player who got the biggest payout won the $1 that was collected from all the players. It was a lot of fun. I think we are going to have another slot tournament on our October cruise. Something to look forward to.

Our roll call did this on the Jewel of the Seas, I think we each came out ahead $6. My suggestion is to make sure everybody is in agreement on when it's going to end - some people were under the impression we'd keep playing until the money was gone or we hit it big, other people thought once we each got our turn we'd end it then. Just make sure everybody is on the same page.

If you blindfolded someone and they threw a rock at you 4 times..that is 4 random throws. Would you be just as happy with 80 rocks being thrown at you? or do you think the odds of getting hit increase?

Would you be just as happy with 80 rocks being thrown at you? or do you think the odds of getting hit increase? Any of you ever take statistics and probability? When each pull is totally and completely independent of each other, the odds are exactly the same each pull, hence you do not stand a better chance of winning. Rocks? That is the strangest analogy I have ever heard And, no, your odds don't increase if each rock is thrown individually. Each throw is a random event like slots, but completely off topic. My son would love this discussion. He was a math major and took AP probability and statistics and got a 5 on the AP exam. I know what his answer would be since we've discussed odds of gambling before. And as far as I can see, no one who's participated has exactly come out with much if anything. salty dingo Posted April 3, 2010 #23 Share Posted April 3, 2010 so as a group the chance of winning is greater.. I guess it depends on what you are looking for... do you want to "win" or do you want to end up with more money? If all you want is to win, then why not play the penny slots one line at a time? You will win a lot more per dollar lost in the casino, but you won't end up with more money. If instead you would rather play 1,000 pulls and lose 999 times and hit a big jackpot once, then it matters not how you gamble. If you are part of a group you get more chances but the payoff is less, so it is a wash.
woodey Posted April 3, 2010 #24 Share Posted April 3, 2010 see: law of large numbers, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Law_of_large_numbers an excerpt: if you've ever played and watched roulette for a few hours straight, you'll see it does happen... just saying... if there is a finite, predictable percentage of 'wins', having more 'plays' does have a higher probability of yielding a 'win'... ETA: though, i'd totally say that the slots onboard are really 'tight'... :( Without going in and reading the article i am going to add my opinion on this statement..... I have been in the Casino Business for over 20 years and am a number cruncher.....The Odds of each spin on the roulette wheel are the same as the prior spin and will be the same on the next spin...The Ball on the wheel does not know the difference between red and black or odd and even it does not care....the only difference there is in the odds is if there in one or two zeros on the layout The house edge on all bets is 1/19, or 5.26%, except for one bet. The exception is the 0-00-1-2-3 combination, which carries a house edge of 7.89%. This edge is true for every spin 24 hours a day 7 days a week in thousands of casinos across America ....We depend on these numbers to be there at the end of the day..and they are ...if they were not you would see alot of Roulette wheel in the trash cans.... It gets you more pulls for your dollar but unless you hit something BIG, you don't gain much when you split the winnings up... I guess I don't understand. Why does it get you more pulls for your dollar? If you put in $20 and the other person puts in the same amount, and you split the pulls, aren't you still pulling $20 worth? You are just giving up half of your earnings if you win, and getting some if the other person wins. Cruise ships have the worst slots I have ever seen.
