Nick cruise

We booked with no idea about the new Nick themed activities. This would have thrilled me ten years ago, but now, not so much. We don't sail until later in the year, so they have time to iron out the kinks, which I hope they manage to do. We love little ones, but I don't think we'd like a "Total Nick Cruise" as two adults.

On April 24, 2010, Norwegian Jewel will begin offering its exclusive Nickelodeon at Sea activities and shows on board each and every cruise year-round in addition to all the current on board programming already offered. Hints of Nickelodeon will be discovered ship-wide with programs that include signature Nickelodeon activities, popular characters and interactive game shows the entire family can enjoy together.

Specifically, Nickelodeon will offer its Slime Time Live! and Nick Live! Poolside interactive shows; Story Time with Dora where guests are invited to gather around to hear stories about some of their favorite Dora the Explorer characters; Dora’s Dance Party where kids will join Dora and the Nickelodeon cast to dance and sing along with all of Dora’s favorite party songs; character breakfasts; meet and greets around the ship with Nickelodeon characters; Nickelodeon-themed arts and crafts, along with special enhancements to Norwegian’s Kids Crew programming.

This year-round Nickelodeon at Sea programming, which will also be offered on Norwegian Epic, is very different from the full Nickelodeon charter cruises which have yet to be announced. Keep your eye on ncl.com, as more information will be released on these special “immersive” cruises in the near future.

Here is my theory:

4/24-

First cruise with NIck theme at all.

THey will probably be shooting promos and commercials for all of the upcoming NIck theme stuff on for NCL Jewel and Epic on this cruise 4/24.

They might even get some of the actors to come on board to also do promos...so that is why they are going to consider this a "total Nick" cruise. If I recall correctly, the difference between the normal weekly Nick stuff and the TOTAL NICK cruise, would be actors on board..

Maybe they reason this cruise is sold out, is because they are getting kids on board to shoot the commercials, crews to shoot commericals. etc...

A friend of mine who just booked a cruise for 2011 just got off the phone with NCL. She asked questions about the Total Nick Cruise and they still don't have any information. They said that all the cruises will have some special activities on them. They don't even have a list of the types of activities. It could be that all the cruises scheduled from 4/24 on won't be the "Total Nick Cruise."

One poster said that the 4/24 date was removed from NCL's website and it was, but now it is back, so I guess there are rooms available.

It's hard to believe that NCL wouldn't look to charge extra for a "Total Nick Cruise." The prices for all the cruise in the summer seem to be in the same range. There doesn't appear to be a cruise that is much higher.

Maybe NCL will make one of the cruises near holiday time, such as Thanksgiving or Christmas the "Total Nick Cruise" or they will add a date and advertise it separately for people to book. This way people will know what they are booking.

Only 12 days left for the sailing of the first Nick cruise. Have a great time everyone and don't let SpongeBob soak up .......

I just got off the phone with NCL and no info to be had about the special Nick cruises. No information about pricing for the character breakfasts, even though they did say on their site when they first announced the partnership with Nickelodeon that the character breakfasts would require a reservation and a charge.

I think this is an experiment for NCL -- just like trying new menu's -- if it works and people seem to like it then you continue with the change.

They will go through the first cruise and see how it goes. From there they will come up with a charge for the character breakfasts, etc. -- but people who are booked on the summer cruises will probably pay more.

Lets see how long this partnership works -- it didn't last too long with RCL.

The other thread you started has a post from NCL giving info about the April 24th cruise.

Thank you for posting that information.

I know I have plenty of time to find out the pricing for the breakfast with the characters, how much in advance we have to book it, because NCL said reservations required for the character breakfasts.

I'm booked for a cruise in the month of July and my nephew will be happy with Nickelodeon activities, but I would prefer to book a "Total Nick Cruise" to take him on, that is way I am curious on when NCL will have one of the "Special Nick Cruises."

I've read the announcement of the partnership between NCL and Nickelodeon and it also stated that the annual "Special Nick Cruise" will be on the Jewel sometime later this year.

Some people like myself are hoping that the "Special Nick Cruise" will turn out to be the one that we are scheduled for -- if it isn't my nephew will have a blast anyway.

Thanks again for the info.

I'm not happy about this at all! If I wanted to be around a bunch of characters I would have taken a Disney based cruise. When I inquired about this to my TA months ago I was told that they may have some characters here and there. I had my TA call NCL to make sure this was true. Now to find out two weeks ahead of the cruise that this is a nick theme cruise through and through makes me upset! NCL could have at least been honest so that we could have had the option to take another cruise. I'm pretty sure they knew about this ahead of time!

Interesting that they chose to take a picture of Spounge Bob on the GEM in NY and not the JEWEL???

Is NCL (Cool Cruiser) an employee of NCL and he is just responding to a question on this site?

He seems to be an NCL Employee since he posted more information about the partnership between NCL and Nickelodeon and activities that will be going on. He mentioned activities that weren't on any website -- for instance a dance with Dora the Explorer.

The posting by NCL (Cool Cruiser) says that the 4/24 cruise isn't a "Total Nick Cruise" and NCL hasn't selected a date for the "Total Nick Cruise." He also mentioned charter -- so it won't be any of the cruises already scheduled that people have booked for.

I guess a person who booked this cruise not knowing about Nick will still have a good time. The Nick activities are supposed to be in the kids areas and the Nick entertainment for kids, etc. is in addition to the regular NCL cruise activities.

NCL should have done things differently for people that booked their cruises before the partnership with Nickelodeon. They should have given people the chance to change their cruise, but I guess NCL didn't consider that some people might be bothered having SpongeBob or Dora walking around.

If the last poster (Nmat) reads this posting, did your TA confirm that the 4/24 cruise was the "Total Nick Cruise"?

Yes, and an extremely high position employee at that.

I'm not gonna say who, as I'm not sure he has ever identified himself on the board. Be content to think that if he says it, it is fact (or at least as close as anyone could be to fact)

We booked this cruise before we knew about Norwegian and Nick but we have kids so we were happy about it~

I really think if this was a specific Nick theme (ex: Icarly, True Jackson etc etc) they (NCL) would do this either during spring break weeks and/or holiday and/or summer vaca time where they could get the most money.

I can't imagine characters being in adult areas (such as casino, spa, night club, private sundeck etc etc) but I really have no idea...

but I do know who is in one of the GVs and they are some pretty awesome people but they have nothing to do with Nickelodeon : )

I don't think it would bother me one way or the other, and normally cruise lines do not tell passengers about these things like this, anymore than a hotel would tell you about a convention or a theme park about a special group activity going on. I guess I must live in my own little world cause I wouldn't expect to be told. Now, if I had heard about this and asked, I would expect the truth.

Definitely not happy !:( We were having trouble making a final decision on this May trip - to me, this would have been the deciding factor. Being that the "adult" pool is next to the "family" pool, how could this not impact those not wanting to be around the Nick theme. NCL should have been more forthcoming with their information.

That being said, we're going, we'll have a great trip I'm sure and thank goodness we have a balcony to escape to if needed. This is just MHO..............I love kids, have grandkids but choose not to cruise with them.:D

We are on the 4/24 sailing and planned this trip after spring break to avoid a repeat of a sold out Gem cruise last February. I am disappointed to only recently reading about all of this but won't complain until I experience it.

"Hints" of Nickelodeon sounds reasonable, but replacing what I enjoy the most, the poolside band, with characters will not be appreciated.

I would hope also that the poolside bands would not be replaced by the Nick activities, as we were originally told when booking all activities should be in children's area. As NCL states in their reply to the thread, these activities are in addition to the regularly scheduled onboard programs. I would be totally disappointed also not to have the poolside bands or the Jean Ann Ryan shows in the showroom at night.

From the tone of some of these posts, you'd think the sky was falling. I doubt the addition of a few Nick characters is going to be as obtrusive or offensive as some are making it out to be.

Hopefully none of the poorly warned adults become apoplectic and pass out from the unbelievably callous introduction of Dora or Spongebob on their cruises. I'm sure it's going to completely ruin them.

My guess is the children's shows will be scheduled at select times throughout the day, the same as the other band playing, ice carving is on deck, etc. It also appears that this will be on all Jewel sailings for the foreseeable future.

I'm only disappointed that there is no mention of the Wonder Pets. Though, maybe that's for the better. They're supposed to be about 5 inches tall and my 2.5 yr old DD would probably run screaming if she came upon giant 6 foot versions of them.

None of us have experienced a Nick cruise on NCL. All we can do is hope that our cruise is as non-invasive as the NCL post states and that ALL activities that we are expecting, will still be taking place on the future Jewel cruises. We were expecting a certain type of cruise when we booked and for many of us to hear otherwise is quite a disappointment.

Yes. I don't find children or their activities to be offensive or horrible, but since I don't have children yet, I wouldn't book a cruise that was designed with them in mind. Anyone who booked a cruise expecting certain activities should not have to forfeit their expectations in favor of a bucket of slime.

Pretty obnoxious from someone offering a "guess" as to how this will play out onboard. If the Nick events do interfere with/take the place of regular NCL entertainment then I feel those uninformed have a right to be concerned. This should have been communicated from the outset and those passengers given the option to change or cancel with plenty of notice. Play out different scenarios other than Nick - what if, at a moment's notice, this sailing became a hard-core MTV rap themed cruise complete with pole dancing and booty shaking? Any families with small children getting upset? To each his own, but extend the common courtesy of notifying everyone in a timely fashion and give them the opportunity to change if its not their "thing".

Just because someone isn't into Spongebob doesn't necessarily make them a "anti-kid", so no need to drum up that whole issue. My main concern would not be the Nick theme, but whether it can peacefully coexist with a more traditionally NCL theme rather than overtake such.
