shuttle charges - an estimation?

We were on med rcci last summer and were taken by surprise by shuttle costs in to town from the port. We didn't let it spoil our cruise but many pax were disgruntled.

Does princess charge for shuttles and if so roughly how much per person? FYI we're looking at Lisbon vigo la rochelle and Guernsey specifically but I'd be grateful for general experience

Thanks so much

Hannah

I can't speak for the other ports, but the two times we have been in Lisbon, the ship has tied up by the Customs House.

Just a short walk (couple hundred feet) across the square is a streetcar station, with lines that go downtown. Don't recall the fare, but it was quite cheap (I think perhaps One or Two Euros).

There is also a streetcar route that gives a good overview of most of the city, with taped narration/headphones in two or three languages, including English.

It really depends on the port. If princess charges it's usually $5 each way. Some ports provide free shuttle service because they recognize that bringing people into town means more money in tourist dollars. If they don't then Princess has to hire the service out and recoups by charging the passengers.

One can easily walking into town,Virgo The town sometimes runs a shuttle to the end of the port as it is a working comerical port. We walked all over the town one trip and one trip, took public transit to a couple of cute towns, one with a good beach. We also once walked to the train station and took the train to see St. James church and shrine about 35 minutes ride out of the city. Lisbon is usually a walk across a small bridge to a subway train above ground in this area. Buy and all day ticket, it works for the trams and buses. They (trams) are a hoot. Get one up to the castle and most important places. Using the subway(train) to downtown, will get you there faster and cheaper than princess. Princess buses wait until they fill up a bus to go. Goggle the cities and check on line with cc european ports and you will find out most helpful info. Most of all have fun and enjoy.

In Lisbon -- three rules:

1. watchout for pickpockets on public transportation

2. watchout for pickpockets on public transportation

3. watchout for pickpockets on public transportation

Good one. Your rules apply 1000% to Barcelona, Rome and St Petersburg also. Need to be wary of well dressed railway 'staff' on Paris railway stations too! GC
