Can I tag along on the dolphin swim & snorkel in Cozumel?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

My husband will be going on the Dolphin Swim & Snorkel excursion in Cozumel. I don't swim a stroke, but would love to go with him to watch and take pictures/video. Does anyone know if I could pay a reduced rate to do this, since I won't be participating? Thanks for your help.

If you book the excursion through the cruiseline you will have to pay the full prce to tag along but if you book the excursion directly with the place that does the excursion all you will have to pay is the fee to get into the park where the excursion is done. They have a wooden walkway and platform where you can take pictures from and watch your husband.

Another thing to keep in mind even though you don't know how to swim you could still do the excursion with him, everyone must where life jackets.

If you want more information how to book the excursion on your own let me know , also the park isn't far from where the ship docks in Cozumel at either, very short taxi ride.

Hi Jimbo,

Thanks very much for the info. Yes, could you give me the info on booking directly? And I would love to do the excursion with him, but.... I'm actually phobic about water! Amazing I'm going on a cruise, but I love being on/near water, love boats - even tried scuba diving in a clear Adirondack lake once with an old boyfriend. It's the whole getting-into-the-water-without-a-way-to-breathe that freaks me out!

Thanks again for your help. Would love to watch DH play withthe dolphins, but I just don't think it would be worth it for us to spend $136 for me just to be a bystander.

You also may want to check with the cruise line if there's a way for you to tag along on the bus. There were tons of parents watching when we went. Of course the other alternative is to just take a cab and meet them there, it's really not that far.

As for the Dolphin Swim and snorkel tour, you can take a taxi to Chankanaab Park (about $10 or $15 each way depending on where you dock) per tacxi, not each, and pay the admission to the park ($10 each) and then arrange the swim with the dolphins and snorkel separately. Snorkel is included in the park admission.

There is a very nice mayan area where you can walk through and take pictures. They are replicas but still very nice.

They also sell food and beverages. A lovely place.

If you go on your own, you can stay as long as you like - keeping in mind the time the ship departs of course.

Enjoy.

If you book online, you may wish to book the Royal Dolphin Swim (I believe it's called that). It's far superior to what is offered from the cruiselines. I believe they also throw in a complimentary sea lion encounter. My kids did this and loved it.

The Royal Swim is where the 2 dolphins pick you up by your feet and carry you standing through the water, as well as a whole bunch of other stunts. Just take a cab, pay the entrance fee, and you can go out to the "boardwalk" and take as many pictures as you like, if you just want to watch.

Use this web site when booking directly. You can make all the reservations right here online.

Be careful which time you book because there can be a time difference from the ships time to Cozumel's time of one hour either earlier or later depending when you go...Either the 10am or the 12 noon one is best to book, it's also better to arrive early and check in so they know you are there, you can then walk around the park and check other things out while you are waiting.

You will see plenty of pictures where the swim is and you can see the boardwalk thing they made so you can go out there and se your husband with the dolphins very easily. The Royal Swim is the one where you actually do all the tricks with the dolphins, The Encounter is just touching the dolphin, no where near as fun as the Royal Swim.

Ask the Taxi driver to take you to Chankanaab Park, that is where the Dolphin Discovery is located, it's a short taxi ride to get there. Also there are plenty of taxi drivers waiting when you are done there, so don't worry about that.

Any other questions just ask, either I or others reading this can help.

Did this last year, arranged on our own and one member of our group stood on the dock and took pictures. He was hit up by the workers to tip him for the priveledge of taking pictures, but no one would have stopped him from doing so.

Right now thru June 30, 04 if you prebook at the site that Jimbo listed you can save 10% on the Royal Swim in Cozumel as well as a few others listed. You do have to pay in advance & if your ship doesn't make it to port they do allow a cancellation for a very small charge.
