I have been on the Queen Victoria recently for a short cruise. It was really great and I would like to go to amsterdam again on a cheaper shorter cruise now.

Has anyone heard about DFDS Seaways cruise? the ship is called King of Scandinavia.

Any feedback?

Cheers.

I've been on their ferries, but didn't know they had cruise ships. Where are they sailing from/to?

They used to do one from Harwich to Hamburg....I think it was DFDS we travelled with- it's overnight, and half a day going up the river Elbe. Loved that!

P&O ferries often do mini cruises from Hull, which can be quite cheap if you're a foot passenger.

They call them cruise ferries, and usually sail overnight. Cabins are small and spare. Lots of restaurants, casino, duty free shops. I haven't cruised one (wish we had them over here...), but I belong to another cruise forum with a member from Finland who does these all the time. Sometimes it's a marathon - think once he did seven ferries in four days...Another member from Estonia cruises Tallinn to Helsinki or Stockholm as often as he can. EM

If you go on shipsmaps AIS, you'll see the King of Scandinavia sailing from N/C on an evening. There's also the Santandar ferry for 2 nights from Plymouth.

Enjoy! :D

I have been on DFDS car ships many times - starting when I was a few months' old baby over 50 years ago!!

My mother was Danish married to an English man and we took the Harwich - Esjberg route and drove to Copenhagen to see family and friends.

I married and husband and I went to Scandinavia woth our rental car on honeymoon - took DFDS ship from Oslo to Copenhagen and then from Gotenburg to Harwich.

When our son was 6 we went over on DFDS ship again with car - there and back.

Bottom line - go on one!! They are fun - for all ages. The food is very good but remember they are not included in price. DFDS are all Danish/Scandinavian so things are good. There are DutyFree stores on board.

This is not a cruise, it is a glorified car ferry. European roll-on-roll-off car ferries try to market their ferry crossings as a cruise to attract more customers. It is like marketing a youth hostel as a luxury hotel. If you compare it will the Queen Victoria, it is like comparing a luxury hotel to a campsite. There will be loads of truck drivers on board, as well as school trips, passengers from cheap Eurolines coaches and families who go on a car holiday.

As a Brit living on the European continent, travelling backwards and forwards to my family for almost 40 years now, I have been on too many of those damn things in my life. I am actually disgusted that these ferry companies will try to lure innocent people on a roro-ferry under the pretence that they are getting a cruise.

Also remember that they do not go to Amsterdam, although they market it like that. It goes to IJmuiden, 27 km from Amsterdam, and you will have to find a public bus to take you to Amsterdam or book their coach.
