Safaga Port - nearest cash machine?

Anyone know of the nearest cash machine to the port?

The port and area are very industrial, but there are taxis waiting at the dock gate. They will know where the cash machines are, unless someone comes on the page who knows exactly where.....

Remember that most outlets in Egypt will take ££, $$ and euro. The local shops are very aware of cruise ships arriving, and adjust their selling tecniques accordingly.....For instance, Thomson Celebration sails round the same few Red Sea ports week in and week out all winter, and the locals know the times better than the passengers!

If you can't get a few Egyptian pounds before you go, this is one time when you may be better off buying a few on the ship.

Fellow pax went to Hugurda on both days we were docked there, and were quoted in ££ by taxi drivers.

The town is about twenty minutes from the ship. I can't remember whether or not an ATM is located there.

 

Our experience is that we were able to use USA currency throughout Egypt so you may not have the need to convert any money. Has someone told you that they require payment in Egyptian currency or were you just assuming that.

the only time you need Le's(egyptian pounds) is for entry to a government run site. If you are using a guide they will exchange it for you as well. You can exchange USD or Pounds sterling into LE's at any bank for a decent exchange rate and ATM's are generally readily available....

 

remember that most non-US banks require the use of a 4 digit numerical code....

Thx everyone for your replies. Worked out that I didn't need a machine as I ended up still having enough Euros left over from previous port...phew!!!

 

Am just used to having a cash machine onboard, so got stuck this time around.
