Yet another odd question: My own salad dressing

You can make your own dressing. I have the waiter bring oil and vinegar. (comes in small carafes) I just add a tiny amount of salt and pepper. It's easy.

Really? You can't live without your salad dressing for a week? How about branching out and trying something different? I love my chocolate creamer for coffee that I have everyday at home with peppermint extract, but guess what? I don't have it when we travel and I SURVIVE. I mean, really, who takes their own salad dressing anywhere? Who wants to take bets on what item is next that someone absolutely has to have and wants to know how to sneak it onboard?;)

 

It just seems to have become a challenge to some.

Get the salad and tell them you want oil and vinegar on it. They will bring it to you. This way you know the salad is dry.

 

I do recall though being able to put dressings on all my salads last week except for the Greek salad.

You and I are from Canada so we have Catalina. I don't think you can get it in the States. We love Catalina and Russian, so nice and sweet.

 

 

No problem getting Catalina or Russian dressing in the states. I have a bottle of Catalina in my frig, to put on pizza, it's a Biloxi thing.

Or have your salad without dressing, it is wonderfull that way.

 

 

If I'm having a salad with lots of ingredients in it, I can easily do that. If not, no, too dry for my taste. There is a place called Snappy Salads here in town that I love because you can get a small salad with 8 ingredients, or a large salad with 12. The small salad is not small imo, and the 8 ingredients keep it moist and tasty. Yummm,.:)

In all seriousness, I had a HORRIFIC case of food poisoning from salad dressing that wasn't properly refrigerated. If you do choose to bring it, please make sure it is COLD!

I cannot think of one thing that I could not live without for a week if the ship did not have it. I would just make do instead of packing all kinds of stuff.

 

However, I do think that the best idea, like someone else posted, about getting it in individual size packets.

 

Some people want to eat salads because they are supposed to be good for you, however they are only able to find ONE dressing they like.

OP I love this thread....and you are not alone. I had considered doing this for my daughter. She despises vegatables of any kind. However over the last year we have been able to get her to eat a plain salad as long as it has Kraft Zesty Italian. Absolutely no other dressing will be tolerated. LOL! I was going to pack some for her but forgot...Take your salad dressing and have a great cruise!:)

For that I'm going to enjoy my salads on my vacation and, well, no, I really don't think I need to live without it if I don't choose to.

Please please make sure your dressing, whatever it is, is properly refrigerated after opening! (I have worked for the Canadian Food Inspection Agency and now work at Health Canada - trust me - I have seen and heard enuf horror stories with non-refrigerated items and things not properly cooked!!!)

I have to agree with the folks who asked why you can't live on the edge for a week and eat a different dressing....I know it's not just you. I have seen people get in a tizzy because there is no Pepsi, only Coke. I have seen posts asking what brands of ketchup the line uses....what brand hot dogs...what kind of butter....what kind of toilet paper.....

(I'm sure some older members can add to this list because it does go on and on...)
