Cruising with Kids - Carseats

S&JR

Recommended Posts

This is not our first time cruising but it will be our first with our three boys ages 4 and two 22 month olds.

My biggest concern is excursions and car seats for the 22 month olds. Do I need to bring car seats? I know we are going to Chankanaab in Cozumel and either Uxmal or Merida in Progresso. I am not so worried about seats to Chankanaab as it it not far from the port but what about Progresso?

Thoughts/opinions/experiences?

Thanks!

Why does the distance from port matter? You can get in an accident driving only one block. How will you be getting to/from these places? If it's by a bus with no seat belts, you don't need the seats. If it's by car, you should take the seats.

I understand that I can get in an accident backing out of my driveway but I feel like the farther I travel the more likely an accident may be. I assume I will be traveling by taxi or tour bus.

Also, if I brought seats, how can I keep up with my expensive seats all day? I cant imagine carrying around my 3 kids plus their seats.

Thanks!

I do not believe that statistically the farther you drive, the more likely it is you will be in an accident.

I can't imagine carrying around three car seats either, but I can't imagine escorting a child back on a medical flight, or worse. I have never had a problem finding a cab with seat belts, despite what many other posters will tell you.

Do yourself a favor and take a tour bus to avoid the stress. It's the best/safest option if you want to avoid hauling around car seats.

You don't mention if you are driving to port, but if you are flying, how will you get the kids to port?

We didn't even HAVE seat belts when I grew up, let alone carseats.....of course, the cars were made of steel...not fiberglass or aluminum....but still....

I guess you could wrap the kids in bubblewrap for the trip!

Yes...it's possible there may be an accident....a tree could fall on you when you walk outside...life has no guarantees....

Take a bus, and don't worry about carseats!
