From theTravel Section of the London/UK Sunday Times tomorrow, they will have this headline: “A weekend in . . . Copenhagen, Denmark”  with these highlights: “Copenhagen’s squares, pavements and street corners are crammed with people eating and drinking — flagons of beer, huge cartwheel pizzas, hot dogs and smorrebrod — open sandwiches piled up with seafood or rolled herrings. It all feels hugely, unexpectedly indulgent . . . hedonistic hygge, if you like.  But it turns out there’s more to the explosion of energy than just good weather. Copenhagen is having a serious refresh: the new circular Cityringen metro line opens in July with 17 stations in central Copenhagen; there’s a clutch of new cultural attractions — including the Copenhagen Contemporary, which opened its doors last year; and the Museum of Copenhagen re-opens after a four-year refurb (and in a new location) in August. Meanwhile, all the talk is of CopenHill, the capital’s new waste-to-energy plant, that will open in the summer with an artificial green ski slope and running trail. My hotel, the Ottillia, is a newly opened, super-chic conversion of the old Carlsberg brewery, with the entire Carlsberg quarter of the city currently under redevelopment.”

Many details and options are in this profile about Copenhagen, plus nice visuals.  Here is another story highlight: "Design is a way of life here — even the smorrebrod are intricately sculpted — but I’d expected that, along with the bicycle-filled streets and the wooden sauna cabins, dotted along the waterfront. The surprise is that Copenhagen has become such a foodie city, from the street-corner hot-dog stands that win gourmet awards, to the world-famous Noma, where it can take three months to get a table."

Brings back wonderful memories from our two different visits to Copenhagen in 2008 and 2010.  Is it time to head back to Denmark?  Yes, BUT . . . . in July, for our first time, we will be seeing Jasper/Banff, doing the Western Canada Rocky Mountaineer rail adventure, having three days in Vancouver, then sailing up to Alaska, doing a post-cruise excursion to Denali, etc.  After that on our priority list is a first-time trip for exploring in early 2020 various South Pacific islands, including Fiji, Samoa, Bora Bora, etc. Would commence this 18-day cruise in mid February from Auckland. We plan to get there a week ahead in order to explore more of New Zealand's North Island and be escaping from the Midwest winter cold. Just need more money and time??!!

From the CNN cable news network yesterday, they had this headline: “19 best places to travel for the summer of 2019”  with these highlights focused on Norway's wonderful coast, especially for Trondheim: “Many people head to Norway in winter for the Northern Lights, but obviously the weather is much better in summer, complemented by long days of sunlight.
An extra incentive to visit in 2019 is the unveiling of the extensively renovated Britannia Hotel in Trondheim. The $150 million undertaking of the historic 19th-century building took four years.
The six dining options are  impressive. Fine-dining Speilsalen is overseen by Christopher Davidsen, who won a silver medal at the 2017 Bocuse d'Or, a prestigious international chef competition.  As for Trondheim itself, Norway's third-largest city is known for its local food scene, Nidaros Cathedral, independent shops and the Nidelva River that cuts through the storybook setting.”

YES, we super loved our time in visiting Trondheim.  Very interesting, historic and charming city.

From a profile sent out recently by Silversea, they had this headline: “Northern Europe by Steve McCurry”  with these highlights: “Envisage windswept moors, craggy coastlines and millennia of culture and you’d probably be picturing Northern Europe. Add to that one master photographer, legendary hospitality and swathes of natural beauty, and you have a recipe for fantastic photography!”

Many nice pictures are featured from Norway and Copenhagen, plus, plus. Brings back nice memories.

Just a note for anyone hoping to ride it, the Cityringen metro line opening has been delayed to September, according to @Danish viking

Great update!!  On another board, this timing delay was posted about this earlier item in this recent article from the London newspaper.  Apparently the famed Sunday Times missed that important timing detail in Copenhagen.

THANKS!  Enjoy!  Terry in Ohio

Great review, have not read all of it but doing a couple of pages daily. As always great pictures. We are doing the 14 day of the Midnight Sun in 2020 with our 11 year old great grand daughter. Gives us something to look forward to.

Appreciate your very nice and kind follow-up. Good luck with your upcoming Midnight Sun travels with your great granddaughter.  Sounds like super fun.  As you read and research, feel free to ask any added questions.  Happy to share more.

Have been traveling.  Where?  First, during our recent travels, we encountered many different, wonderful people from BOTH Australia and New Zealand.  It's always fun to be with those from "down under".

Just completed yesterday, for our first time, flying into Calgary, seeing Jasper/Banff National Parks, doing the Western Canada Rocky Mountaineer rail adventure, having three days in Vancouver, then sailing up to Alaska, doing a post-cruise excursion to Denali, etc.  As mention earlier, next on our priority list is a first-time trip for exploring in early 2020 various South Pacific islands, including Fiji, Samoa, Bora Bora, etc.   Would commence this 18-day cruise in mid February from Auckland.  We plan to get there a week ahead in order to explore more of New Zealand's North Island and be escaping from the Midwest winter cold.  In 2014, we did Wellington, Napier/Cape Kidnappers, Tauranga/Rotorua and Auckland/Waiheke Island, etc.  Will welcome all good suggestion for other exciting opportunities and fun locations in NZ's North Island.  More good photo opportunities??

THANKS!  Enjoy!  Terry in Ohio

Terry, there's a typo in the link you posted:  a "d" in the midst of cruisecritic in the link.  I'm just now catching up with your travels.

Appreciate Barb catching of this "goof".  Have corrected and will update the other posts with this better link.

THANKS!  Enjoy!  Terry in Ohio
