upgrade question

Can someone explain how RCCL decides who gets upgrades? I am about to earn Platinum status with my upcoming Oasis cruise and wonder if that makes it more likely I will get the upgrade call someday. It seems pretty random from what I have read here thus far...

I think being Diamond is when it helps you. From what I have heard when they start upgrades for unsold suites, about 2 weeks before the sailing date, they call in order of most cruises down.

Interesting...I guess the bigger and more booked the ship is the more chance of there being people ahead of me in the "upgrade" line.

No. No one knows. First time cruisers get upgrades as well as Diamond + members. So, the above explanation is partly right. But it is NOT consistant. Don't count on an upgrade at any time! That said, we got our first upgrade from a balcony to a GS on our May Mariner sailing. We were notified just two days prior. (We are D+.) Unfortunately, now we are totally hooked on Grand Suites!

Bigger ship - doesn't matter since there are also more cabins.

 

"More booked" - Yes, that would certainly make a difference.
