WeBeGone Posted August 26, 2010 #51 Share Posted August 26, 2010
Also you can cash out the OBC's for cash at the casino for a cost of 3%.
And to get around the 3%, just sit at a slot machine, open a "bank", transfer $$ from your on board account into the "bank", cash out the bank. No 3% paid. I usually give ourselves $1000 OBC (which I charge to a credit card to get air miles), then we use this method to get daily spending money. That way we don't have to carry a large amount of cash. The 3% applies only at the casino cashier when you take a cash advance against a credit card. JanetAlice Posted August 26, 2010 #53 Share Posted August 26, 2010 Actually the 3% applies to your onboard account as well if you are using it for the casino. In the past you couldn't charge it to your room, now you can but you will pay 3%.

I have my statement in front of me for last week and there are NO FEES when you set up a slot account and advance money from your shipboard account. The only time you will pay the fee is if you enter the casino and walk up to the cashier's window and ask for money on your cruise card. It has been this way for several years now. DMRick Posted August 26, 2010 #55 Share Posted August 26, 2010
The OBCs (which have to be used on marked-up goods and services, not on you'll-pay-em-anyway gratuities or turned into cash at the casino) do not make CCL a can't lose proposition..
We've used our obc from other lines for our gratuities and I've been told I'll be able to use them on this line. We'll be getting back $250 from our initial investment in December, and we are looking at another cruise in the spring. It won't take long at that rate to get back our investment. I wish our other stocks were returning as good an investment.

calgaryhockeyplayer Posted August 27, 2010 #58 Share Posted August 27, 2010 Hey Guys, Great to see a bunch of savy cruisers on here! I have a few questions maybe you can assist me - it would be greatly appreciated. 1. If my wife and I both bought 100 share EACH does that mean we can each have the OBC. We are on a 22 day cruise on Sept. 11 so does that mean we can have $500 in OBC? 2. After buying the shares, how do you prove to Princess / Carnival Corporation you have the shares, what is involved in registering for the credit? 3. How long does it take to register for the credit, we are lacing on Sept 11. which is about 14 days from now. Is that enough time? I would buy the shares on Monday, see them in my account 3 days after that for settlement so I could have a statement printed by say Sept 4th? Your advice and counsel is appreciated! catergirl Posted August 27, 2010 Author #62 Share Posted August 27, 2010 i tried that fax # for my new stocks and then emailed her to ask for confirmation. she sid she didnt get it, her fax # 661 753 0151:)
RKMJDJ Posted August 27, 2010 #63 Share Posted August 27, 2010 I faxed Liza a couple of weeks ago our proof of stock ownership (quarterly statement), our invoice from our T/A showing paid in full and the booking number to 661-753-0151. If your are having a problem with that number you can call her direct at 661-753-0305. Within a day the shareholder benefit was on our account! I'm not certain but I think the shareholder benefit is per cabin not per person.
BlueCat1105 Posted August 28, 2010 #64 Share Posted August 28, 2010 I hate to be so dumb about this stuff, but I've never bought stock outside of my employer 401A plan... Do any of you use eTrade? Also, one more silly question and I'll quit. If DH and I buy 100 shares, we get one OBC for the $100 (or applicable amoung for the length of the cruise), yes? But if we went on our own on a cruise, would we get that amount as well?
paul929207 Posted August 28, 2010 #65 Share Posted August 28, 2010 You do not have to use Etrade, but you will need to open a brokerage account to buy the stock. Etrade is one that you could use. As long as you own 100 shares, you are eligible for one shareholder OBC for the cabin. The amount depends on the length of the cruise.

mytime53 Posted August 28, 2010 #68 Share Posted August 28, 2010 Some years back I did a lot of daytrading for a couple of years. Then I lost my nerve and quit. I still own 2 of the stocks, so today while hubby and I were discussing whether or not to buy 100 shares of CCL, I got out all the brokerage papers and in there were my notes on the stocks I was watching. I was surprised to see that I had CCL on my short list of possible next buys before I quit. Now, if I had bought it (and I would have if I had known about the shareholder OBC), I would have gotten most of my money back in OBC, still own my stock, and could sell it now at a slight gain. But I'd have no reason to sell now, so could just keep on "earning" from it. And Shepp, although we are "cheap" and/or "wise" with our expenditures on board (we don't buy the pictures, don't drink at the bars, don't use spa services, don't eat at specialty restaurants, don't gamble), we buy a coffee card, a few bottles of wine at dinner in the course of a week, and occasionally take a ship-sponsored excursion. It's certainly not difficult to spend $100 in 7 days. So since this is money we would spend anyway, I would consider it a "real" rate of return. jam82 Posted August 30, 2010 #74 Share Posted August 30, 2010 For those of you who have owned stock for a while: How long have you been receiving OBC's as a benefit? When I went to the Shareholder Benefit page, I see that the offer expires in July. Based on past experience, do they update this to continue the benefit, or will the program end in July? lv2cruiseanywhere Posted August 31, 2010 #75 Share Posted August 31, 2010 We have received the "Shareholder Benefit" OBC for the last several years. In fact,, several times each year. They renew the benefit each year (so far). It's a great perk! And tax-free too.
