Time and distance

Logistics....sea miles, cost...fuel....

comfort>> they might be able to go further at full speed but people would be seasick and unhappy

Logistics>>the same reason that all of the ports from New York , Baltimore etc are the "same"....reachable

I live 50 (nautical) miles from Freeport Bahamas

You can go there on little day cruises, or sail a boat there, or go on a charter boat....it really is pretty close

If you look at a map of the Caribbean you will see that south florida can "reach" many many places both east and west

(Cuba is sitting there , a big island that the ships go around)

On 8 day cruises they can go even further....some ships are on 9 or 10 or 11/12 night cruises from south florida and they do a southern caribbean route

otherwise the "southern" routes are available when you leave from Puerto Rico

In 3 nights the ships can hit Bahamas (and most of the "private islands" are simply the Bahamas....including Half Moon Cay, Coco Cay, Princess Keys,

Disneys, NCL etc;;;;only Labadee(Haiti) on Royal is not Bahamas.

Grand Turk is also really close

anyhow...look at a map :) Google is your friend <grin>
