lovemylab Posted September 13, 2010 #1 Share Posted September 13, 2010 Not a cruise question, but still a camera one. DH and I are headed to the UK next month for two weeks. It's our first trip to Europe and we're headed to Edinburgh, Liverpool and London with a few daytrips. I have a Nikon D40 and can't decide what to take with. I have the 18-55mm kit lens, a 35mm f/1.8 and a 55-200mm. I also have a tripod. Would you take all of the above? If not, what would you take? Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated. The total mass of your complete list is not bad at all. All three lenses have situational value (wide for landscapes, fast 35mm for low light and telephoto for that castle perched on the hill) and the extra pound or two is negligible compared to the regret felt when you see a scene perfect for the lens you left at home. Get yourself a good, comfortable sling pack and if your tripod is too big, spring for a good compact one. Go shoot and have a great time! chipmaster Posted September 13, 2010 #3 Share Posted September 13, 2010 Take them all, none of them are veyr large or heavy. 35 1.8 will be perfect for when the light is low or indoors 18-55 while the range is a bit limited probably your best snapshot 55-200 is a nice and light tele for when you need to zoom in. I would go to your local camera store and try a few different backups. The kit you have is light enough that I'd take it with you everywhere. The other option if you really don't want to swap lenses is to pick up a 18-200 or 18-270 superzoom. Make sure to bring some extra cards and a battery to tidy you up if you go snapshot crazy :D Not a cruise question, but still a camera one. DH and I are headed to the UK next month for two weeks. lovemylab Posted September 13, 2010 Author #4 Share Posted September 13, 2010 Thanks for all the help. I'm going to head to a few camera shops this week to find a comfy bag for carrying them in.

The only change I might make is to take a monopod instead of the tripod. Works fairly well although obviously not as well as the tripod and is easier to pack and carry. There are even some monopods that double as a walking stick. DON
