One more "Teens" question!

I'm cruising in April on the Ruby Princess Eastern Carribean when the schools here have their Easter Break so I am assuming there will be plenty of teens on board. I will call after the new year to find out breakdown of ages cruising. This is our 4th cruise with Princess but it has been awhile and my 15yo thinks there isn't going to be anything for her to do. She is likes physical activities like rock climbing, sports not so much the video games. Though I'm sure once she makes friends the teen nights will be ok. I believe they have a teen club.

Basically... I'm looking for some reassurance.. and worse case scenario I'll just hideout in the sanctuary she can't find me there and she'll have her drink card to survive on! lol

As always thank you for all the info! and I am so looking forward to April 17th!!!

Spend time with her! Our sons didn't like the teen program. They hung out with us, which we loved. They worked out with their dad, played board games with us, played basketball, ping pong, trivia games, and went to the shows with us. Believe me, I treasure those times! Both are now gone to college and I wish I could spend time with them like I used to.

My original post was really written on her behest... wasn't really trying to ditch her I assure you my sanctuary hide out was only in jest. Maybe I'll let her hang out in the adults only jacuzzi with me then I can be the subject of CC anger on here too!! lol... j/king!!! please don't flame me....

Can anyone with teens comment on the teen night activities, teen club or if they do any teen dinners in the main dining room?? Again she is asking... she is more than welcome to eat with her parents when she likes!!! promise!!!

We were on the Crown Princess during DH's spring break this year. There were lots of teens on that cruise. We saw them frequently hanging out in packs of 6-8 kids. I'm not sure about whether the activities the kids crew organized were well attended or not.

Thanks geoherb.. she's a little anxious b/c she thinks she's going to be bored.. but when we last cruised I noticed teens hanging out together and I'm positive it wasn't organized. I don't want her running amok unattended on the ship either lol.. she will be with me then.. but I would like her to be able to attend some sort of teen event at night maybe a dinner/club theme. I thought I read somewhere they had that.

Basically she wants to know why I didn't book on one of the "bigger" ships that have yes dare I say it here rock climbing or surf pools. I mean to me those attractions sound cool but I imagine they would be packed and how often would you get to do them? Again more concerned about sea days and one or 2 nights. Otherwise she will be with us anyway.

My son is 16 and usually enjoys the teen club. It can be hit or miss depending on the number of teens onboard and the quality of the counselors running the programs, but since it will be Spring Break I imagine there will be lots of teens which means its likely they will ramp up the program a bit for that time frame.

The day you board your daughter will get a schedule for ReMix for the entire week which will help her plan when she wants to be at the club. Some of the fun things they do include teen dinners, teen brunches, Casino night, Karaoke night, Teen dance, Late night Pool/Hot Tub party, Dating Game, etc. She can pick and choose the activities that appeal to her. One thing I strongly encourage is that she attend at the orientation/get to know you gathering the first night so she can meet some fellow teens so she'll have friends right from the start. It makes it more appealing to go to the activities if you have already formed some initial bonds.

Thank you Karatemom2 for that info... just did a search of the forum for ReMix and found lots of great stuff to show her tonight. She's 15 kind of mature for her age (my humble opinion) and loves sports and physical activities, but who doesn't love a hot tub party or a "mock"tail party. Most important thing I gather is convincing her to go the first night to the "mixer". Thanks again for your tips...I feel a little more at ease..

There is also a fitness center on board (free to use) and there will be exercise/yoga/aerobics classes; dancing classes (free); swimming; a basketball court; golf simulator & miniature golf; ceramics classes; ping-pong & shuffle board; dancing at the teens' Remix Club; karaoke; teen dinners; and a lot more. I doubt that she will be bored! The Neptune's Reef and Pool area is where she will find most of the "younger" activities happening....live Caribbean music, ice carving demo's; some silly pool games, etc.

There is MUTS (Movies Under The Stars) each evening, too and a video arcade! I should have had as much to do when I was a teenager!! ;) :D

My teenage son goes the first night to the teen club, makes friends, then only goes to a couple of activities. He hangs out with the friends he makes when he is not with us.

There is a basketball court, mini-golf, pools, fitness center, teen dance. Plenty of physical activity can be done with other teens.

When my sons were 14 and 16 we took them on the Carribean Princess, they did not like the teen program, and had no desire to even attend first night. I insisted they did, and thank goodness,, they met a bunch of other teens who were reluctance and spent the rest of the cruise hanging out with them. They didn' t do the club activities. They seemed to spend alot of time walking around, visiting buffets, and at pools.

This past spring I took my 13 yr old daughter on the Sapphire Princess, it was Canadian spring break but not American. Not alot of kids. Club was almost always empty. Daughter hung out with me mostly.

Please don't worry. When our kids were teens they loved to cruise. When all of their friends were going to FL for spring break our kids were begging to go on a cruise. They always found kids to hang out with and had a great time. They would attend some of the teen programs and somethings just did on their on with the group they were hanging with. Once your daughter gets there she will have a ball. It will be good for her to meet new people and good for you to have some down time. To us cruising was the best. Our kids could enjoy meeting new friends and they didn't seem to mind doing things with us as long as they got to do things with their new friends. It is the best of both worlds.

Almost the same cruise last April, lots of teens, from all over the world, our son, 16, had a blast! From experience half of the teens go to Club Fusion and connect, half don't. But those that do experience the international scene that is cruising, the opportunity to meet others from all parts of the world, share experiences and interests. One can surf and climb rocks all day long, but how many chances do you have to connect with a Brit or Aussie teen and see what their world is all about?

Departing Sunday on the Golden, with our 17 year old. Will let you know how it was for him.

John
