HAS ANYONE BEEN ON A RECENT PRINCESS CRUISE, AND KNOW

IF THEY ARE ARE PRE SCANNING ALL LUGGAGE BEFORE IT IS SENT

TO YOUR ROOM.

RCCL & CELEBRITY ARE NOW DOING THIS ....RCCL TOOK AWAY OUR

IRON LAST CRUISE, AND WILL ALSO TAKE ANY BOOZE YOU MAY

WISH TO BRING ONBOARD TO HAVE IN THE PRIVACY OF YOUR CABIN.

I DO KNOW WITH PRINCESS YOU ARE ALLOWED TO BRING BACK

ONE BOTTLE OF WINE OR CHAMPAGNE EACH FROM A PORT, BUT

NOT SO WITH RCCL....( OR WATER FOR THAT MATTER).

SAILING ON THE GRAND PRINCESS IN NOVEMBER, CRUISE 19 !!

Princess always scans all luggage, wine/champagne are not an issue.

Irons are not allowed period.

Doesn't anybody else think it odd that irons are not allowed but cigarettes/cigars, lighters and matches are!

Happy and safe cruising:rolleyes:

Uh yeah. But, yes, I 'd be more afraid of the matches and cigs tossed down to a lower deck than an iron left on in the room.

Princess - like most cruise lines - only scans bags that are carried up the gangway or through the crew entrance on the ship.

The Port Authority Security Team scans ALL other bags in US Ports, and most bags in non-US Ports.

I don't know who does the scanning, but I can verify that all bags are scanned. My wife sews a lot, and does needlework while on a cruise. On a recent Princess cruise, we got a phone messgae to report to the security office shortly after we boarded.

Down there, we were asked if we had a large knife in our luggage. Of course we answered no, but my wife said she had scissors. We were then asked to open the suitcase, and locate the scissors. It tuned out that they were longer than the allowable length (don't remember what is allowable). They were then held in security, and we were told we'd get them back after the cruise.

Upon disembarking, when my wife's card was scanned, an alarm sounded, ship's personnel looked at the screen, and my wife was told "you can pick up your confiscated item at the dock." I'm sure a lot of people were wondering what that was all about.

It's safe to say that all lines scan luggage...taking smuggled booze is a different story! On 8 Carnival cruises, I have never had smuggled liquor confiscated. On the Liberty of the Seas in March, they took it all! Including my water, and soda...and they do not give it back!

DH works sometimes on the docks for cruise ships, ALL ships scan ALL luggage. Don't even think of sneaking anything onboard. Many, many people have been caught trying to sneak many things, some illegal, onboard and have been escorted off.

I once had a pocket knife in an outside pocket of my luggage from a previous trip. I didn't even know it was there. After boarding I got the call to report to security. Unfortunately they were less than professional and kept demanding that I get it without telling me what "it" was. Had they mentioned a knife I would have known where it would have likely been. Ultimately they opened the luggage and searched till they found what they wanted. Since then I make it a point to search every pocket of our luggage before repacking for a cruise.

Bringing irons is a no no on any cruiseline. From what I've heard, Royal C. has banned bringing on any beverages for some years now. We haven't had a problem bringing on sodas, water, wine on Princess.

Also, please, please turn off your cap locks before posting on any forum. Besides making it harder for us to read your post, it is considered yelling in web-etiquette. Much thanks.

From our experience and what I have read here.

It (wine/champagne) is not taken in ports either.

Keith...bang on.

If you have concerns with the security folk at embarkation or possibility of confiscation, simple solution is to take a copy of the Passage Contract and highlight para 2 of Sect 5 of same so it is visible and readable. There is no limitation in your passage contract as to the amount of wine or champagne you can bring onboard at embarkation or any other port of call for that matter.

Ciao for now!!!

We had a call back to portside about something in our luggage when we boarded in Southampton.

I turned out that they had seen my husbands skean dhu. (the small knife a Scotsman wears down his sock when wearing the kilt)

We argued that he had worn it on most of his Princess cruises and, like the diving knives, the steak knives on the ship were more lethal.

This was the Southampton post security. They eventually agreed to hand it over to Princess security. As soon as we reboarded there was a phone call in the cabin, asking him to come and collect it.
