Which Ships have the A/C problems?

Our last cruise with Princess was on the Caribbean. Our room seemed to be always wam (balcony). In other parts of the ship we got hot as well.

Do more ships than the Caribbean have A?C issues?

We have never experienced AC problems on any Princess ship or on any of our 4 trips on the CB.

We have not run into any Princess ship with any AC problem in all these years. My guess, they were probably having an AC problem with one particular area (or two) onboard which can happen with any mechanical item. I wouldn't choose the ship because of a past experience, as this isn't normal.

We've never had a problem anywhere on a Princess ship whether it was hot or cold outside...always comfortable inside.

Although we've never sailed the Caribbean...could it have been a problem with your specific cabin?

Did you notify your cabin steward or the passenger services desk?

I have never had an A/C problem on a Princess ship. There are times when people leave their balcony doors open which throws off the A/C for nearby cabins but that's not a ship problem, it's a passenger problem. There's a notice on the balcony door asking you not to leave your balcony door open. There are also times when it's very hot outside and if the sun is directly on your balcony and you don't draw the drapes, the cabin will heat up in spite of the A/C. Same thing would happen in your home.

Also, people have different comfort levels. One person is comfortable at 76 degrees, someone else might not be comfortable with anything over 68 degrees so I take any report of A/C problems with a grain of salt.

We just got off the CB yesterday morning and experienced no AC issues. I walked with two small portable fans just in case and I unpacked them today still in the box etc. The room was very cold and the thermostat worked fine to where we were able to adjust it as needed. We were in D508 - Dolphin. Maybe we were lucky!

Hey Ron,

We too had a "hot" experience on CB. We sailed her on a southern in Feb of '09. The common areas were not well air conditioned, which was annoying for us guys wearing pants and suits. We went with another couple and my buddy felt the same way. We sailed her again on a NE/Canada in Sept and had no issues due to weather. Wonder if these recent claims has anything to do with time of year and itinerary? It's also possible they fixed the issue, which I believe would easily be solved by simply turning the A/C up a couple of notches.

I'd say our room on the CB was the warmest we've had, BUT once I closed the drapes and ensured our balcony door was kept closed and turned the air to its coldest setting, we were quite content for the duration of our cruise. When I was on the Emerald a few weeks back, I actually had to turn the setting 'up' a few notches as it was getting a little too chilly. And believe me, I like it very cool.

We had a balcony on the Ruby last yr. The location was on the Lido deck forward. Sometimes the door was left open going out to the deck and the cool air got sucked out. Our cabin could have been cooler to suit my needs. It wasn't that bad after the sun went down.

I am thinking some searches of the forums here will, indeed, turn up posts and threads about A/C problems. I believe them to be common.

On the Ruby, our cabin was fine most of the time... warm one day... But, up the hall, the midsection of the ship, at one point was just absolutely sweltering... people standing in the halls talking about it. No question that there are sometimes problems with the A/C on these ships. It has been mentioned here on CC.

I have been on 10 of the Princess ships (Caribbean) in the last 4 years from the Ruby to the Island & many in between--my only negative about the whole Princess experience is the lack of A/C. I find about 2 am the cabin gets very stuffy & it lasts for several hours. We always have a balcony cabin from BC now doing BA the last several times. We DO NOT leave the balcony door open for any length of time--just to go in & out. We close the door at night plus during the day have the drapes drawn if on the sunny side of the ship! I always make a comment about the temperature on my Feedback form. We have sailed many Celebrity ships in the past (not for several years) & have never experienced the lack of A/C like on the Princess ships. There are other areas of the ships that are also very warm-sometimes in the any time dining area & Casino. So it was not a unique experience for you! What we always ask for from the Cabin Stewart in a top sheet not just the Duvet --then you only have to deal with a top sheet not that Duvet that is twice a warm!

We were on the CB last new years. Our caribe balcony room was the hottest room we've ever had on a princess cruise. kept out door shut and the shades drawn. it was miserable. had a warm room on the diamond princess also. hoping wasn;t a new trend to save money! we have been on like 12 princess cruises and never had a problem til recently. i am bringing a little fan for our trip on the island thru the panama canal just in case....10 days is way to long to be sweltering in the room!! lol. even my hubby who is rarely warm complained how uncomfortable it was. even our room steward said boy it's warm in here.

Did Engineering come and check on it? If it was that awful, you should write Princess and let them know the situation, who you spoke to to resolve the issue, and the result. If the A/C wasn't working and they wouldn't/couldn't fix it, that's a serious issue. When you're onboard and the A/C isn't fixed to your satisfaction, let the Captains Circle host know. They can check directly with Engineering and get action.

We were on the CB week commencing 18/09/2010 and we did have a problem with the AC ....... the room was very cold.

I let the cabin steward know and when we returned to the cabin it had been fixed, never had service that quick before. :D

Also had a problem with the toilet & sink being blocked, again it was sorted asap.

Very good service.

how could it be a new trend to save money?

you do realise that the ship generates its own electricity and is not plugged in to the national grid dont you

We were recently on the Sun Princess. The air conditioning was not working at all in our cabin. Reported it and they came immediately to fix it. Found out that if a passenger does not like the constant "hum" from the ceiling, they can totally turn off the air conditioner which is what would have happened with the previous person in our cabin. After they came in and flipped the switch we then had 2 temps - cold and really cold! Reported it again and within an hour someone was at our door and got it to working properly.

I was on the CB in June & it was, by far, the warmest ship I've ever sailed on. I was hot practically everywhere & I'm someone who is typically cold all the time. The common areas (especially the buffet) were even warmer than my cabin.
