Some cruisers can have fun....yes, they can.

People are allowed to be disappointed & unhappy.

I agree, disappointed and unhappy. But a good many of the passengers were hostile & rude to the staff, as well as some of the other passengers who did not agree with them. To hear the way some people were yelling at the crew at the Purser's Desk was unbelievable.

That behavior is unacceptable.

But the title of this thread is that the OP had fun...no matter what...and that he is entitled (and certainly he is) to have fun...even if people cannot understand how he is having fun.

My point is that there might be circumstances under which someone might not be having fun....and I would still be having fun...and wondering why people couldn't understand how I could be having fun.

Maybe if they cut back on the liquor the hostile, rude, obnoxious people would have been more rational. (I think I read there was a free cocktail hour to compensate.) As a non-drinker...I don't see how giving angry people drinks would calm the situation. Maybe Carnival should have had some free yoga sessions in the theatre. Again...would have made me happy!:)

Very good point. I didn't think the free cocktail hour was a great idea......just fueling a fire with more gasoline. My heart went out to the wait staff and bartenders, who were literally mobbed by passengers grabbing drinks.....3 & 4 at a time.

To the OP, I am so glad that the majority of passengers had a decent time and made the best of it, and Thnak-you for starting a thread about that. As for me, I had BLAST, good friends and lots of fun.

NOT to mention that the Port of Miami is fantastic and easy to handle

I was shocked to read of the shoddy treatment at the Galveston Port

they should come here and take some lessons

Have only sailed from Galveston and have never had shoddy treatment. Always treated great. Most people who complain expect to be treated like a king or think that someone owes them something. In my opinion it is usually their attitude that causes them to feel mistreated. Treat people like you want to be treated and they will respond accordingly. Treat them like dirt and they will also respond likewise.

I don't think it is just cruising I think it is just the way a lot of people approach life. It's funny when I read negative reviews ( and there seem to be many for my upcoming Destiny ) most of the complaints are for a) things that woudn't bother me b) things they should have known about precruise or c) just plain silly to me. Then a small percentage of comments I hope I don't encounter but I know if I do I will just deal.

I cruise with my best friend and Mother and we often comment on how we have more fun doing nothing then seems possible. I get my easy going attitude from her for sure. People often comment to me how things don't get to me easily. A good thing too as I am a 911 dispatcher, lol.

Imagine what it would be like....you are all hyped up to go on your cruise....

you get on board....and you are told:

Due to circumstances beyond Carnival's control

1. There will be NO chocolate melting cake

2. The bar will be closed

3. The casino will be closed

4. Food service will be limited to one entree per meal

Now...would you still be enjoying the cruise? I'm not sure if Carnival has an obligation to provide you with any of the above. Isn't it that they just have to allow you to be on the ship...and provide food?

Except for the casino...not of the above would affect me at all...so if it were sunny and the water calm...I'd be happy. :)

People are allowed to be disappointed & unhappy.

Great point!

People are allowed to be disappointed & unhappy.

I give them their right to be unhappy. My issue with them was the planning on spreading the word to get others to join them. Eventually, I was like, this is my cruise, I dont want to hear how unhappy you are when they were everywhere trying to get people to join their cause.

I had someone tell me seriously that Carnival was blocking every make of cell phone from the weather, and the proof was CNN went out the night before Jamaica ... they saw conspiracys around every corner.

I dont give them the right to make me unhappy. I was there, and know how outlandish they sounded.

I wasn't on this cruise, but I also missed a port last week - the Triumph was unable to dock at Isla Roatan. Having never been to that port, yes, I was disappointed, but I didn't let it ruin my trip. We were fortunate that the captain was able to get the ship out into calmer, sunny waters and we enjoyed an afternoon in the sun. We were aware that we were sailing in hurricane season and that was a risk that we were taking. Many in Belize had their cave-tubing excursions cancelled due to flooding from the storm over the weekend. But, I didn't hear a lot of complaining over that either. We were safe, and had a great trip!

I said it yesterday...I don't remember where I said it...but giving "free drinks" was the worst thing Carnival could have done. It's a lot harder for a drunken person to be rational than a sober one.

What they really need to do is have "intelligent" alternatives for "bad weather days"....maybe extra shows, lectures about marine science or navigational issues/problems, health seminars etc.

I'm not talking about income generating things...just "pleasant ways to pass the time" when you can't go out and play!

People are allowed to be whatever they want to be :)

If they'd rather be miserable and not make the best of it, that's on them to ruin their entire week instead of at least attempting to make somethign nice out of it...To me, being miserable just means I blew a hell of a lot of money...when I could try to just switch mental gears and make the best of things and not totally waste an entire week of my life.

I also think that although everyone has the right to be sad and disapponted, IF that sadness/disappointment turns to anger, resentment and being a loud mouth complainer on the ship, then you are now infringing upon other passengers rights to a nice vacation.

the point is that when you sail from Texas...or New Orleans...or Baltimore..or even Tampa you have a LOT of distance you must cover

and there are not many choices to 're route"

IF you want a cruise that is smooth, book late april, early may, great weather, no diversions

I have to disagree with this and think it's bad advice for newbies. While your odds may be better for smooth seas at certain times of year, you can't guarantee it. My roughest cruise so far was sailing from Baltimore in Mid-May last year. Cold front coming off coast of U.S. plus crossing the gulf stream makes for fun seas. :)

Anyone considering a cruise should know that rough seas and missed ports can happen any time of year and it just goes with the territory of cruising.
