Casino chips from different ships?

Recommended Posts

I've never seen a chip (I play slots), but if the ship's name is on them, then I'm thinking they're to be used only on that ship. I also don't think they encourage people to take them home. I would guess if you're asking you have more than a couple of "souveniers".

They may not encourage it, but they must love it when people take them home - they probably pay a few pennies for a chip and it costs a dollar to get one.

As for inter-ship use, I have no idea whether that's possible.

I know for a fact they have chips from other ships in the casinos, I used to collect them and I'd go up to the cashiers and ask if they had any, they had one from the Jewel on the Mariner and one from the Serenade on the Majesty, I don't think they encourage it but most of the chips do look similar or at least have the same color, I'm sure if you were to play it without saying anything they wouldn't notice

You know I kind of figured that as well , my son brought me a $1 chip from vegas I use as a card cover , I have never heard not taking them , but I figured someone on here would start passing judgement as it was stealing :rolleyes: and this thread would be off . :p

I have a chip from the radiance .It only says ship name on one side.Back side is the same on every chip in the fleet.Just play chip face down. This is why they have chips from other ships. They can easily transfer chips from ship to ship.

I "accidentally" came home with a 100.00 chip from a NCL ship. I forgot the last night to get it cashed and then found it that morning. Stood in a VERY long line at the Purser's desk and they said they couldn't cash it--it could only be cashed in the casino. Considering we were back at the home port and leaving the ship, obviously I couldn't cash my chip. I was very upset. They were like "you'll have to take another cruise". I have to admit, I almost booked an NCL ship for my upcoming cruise since I had that stupid 100.00 chip. I need to find it again....

I know that was way off topic--I have used chips within the same line on different ships. That has been quite a while ago though. I also know that I've received chips that had different ship names on them as well. (within the same line).

Really? Nope, no one did.

I guess it does depend on whether anyone notices or not. As you can see at least one person has run into a problem trying but others haven't. I would think there is a reason why the ships name is on them....

Taking casino chips home is not stealing. You exchanged hard cash for a piece of clay. I'd think they'd like you to take lots of chips home as they get to keep the cash.

Perhaps you could hook up with someone on one of the roll calls who might be willing to take your chip on board an upcoming cruise on that ship for 50/50 handling charge?

Where did anyone say it was stealing?

Las Vegas casinos DO consider taking chips outside of their casino "stealing"

They consider it their property and is merely a "voucher" for cash.

There are several reasons for this and one is security, if you have a chip in your possession outside of the casino, it is easier to reproduce (counterfeit).

Wynn and Encore in Las Vegas have RFID electronic chips inside of their casino chips, and that is to not only keep track of them, but to also track a players wagering at a particular spot/seat for rating and comps.

All that said, if you have a chip from one ship on another of the same cruise line, just insert it into the stack you buy in and play as normal. It is unlikely anyone will notice or care.

REALLY ??? Just got back from Several trips this year to Las Vegas and picked a $ 1 chip from over 25 different Casinos ,one from Wynn, from the Cashier cage . Each time I would ask for a chip in good condition as I was going to use it as a souviner. NO ONE EVER SAID OR LOOKED AT ME AS I WAS STEALING. :DThey ,Just like Disney, wany you to buy their worthless Money (unless you are on their property) and take them home they turn a profit with NO EFFORT at all.

Wynn doesn't actually use the RFID for tracking play. Its used for security when cashing in. They set the chips on the black area at the cashier and the amount reads into the computer via RFID. I suppose less counting errors but more likely deterrent of counterfeits is the motive.

The RFID's could be used for tracking play more accurately, but they aren't as of last time I got underrated and asked my host.

They prefer you not take large amounts of chips out of the casino because it makes it difficult for them to track money laundering. For example if you win a big amount at Bellagio the cashier will call the specific pit at which you played to get confirmation that you actually won the money. Even taking chips up to your room and cashing them later in large amounts involves some bother at Bellagio. At Wynn its a non-issue. Could be the RFID, could be different procedures for handling the Treasury Dept reporting.

I know I would figure that if the name of the ship is on the casino chips then you wouldn't be able to use those chips anywhere other than that ship. .

I've used chips from a sister ship multiple times (once on Carnival and several times on RC) and never had a problem. Only once did a dealer look at one funny, but as soon as she called the pit boss over to ask if she could accept it in play he said no problem.

Typically I end up with a few leftover chips that I forget to cash in and don't realize I have them until disembarkation morning, so I just bring them home and save them til the next cruise.
