Oasis - Awesome - My Picture Review

For dinner on the final, I had the Shrimp and Mahi Tempura....and once again, no complaints. Dessert that night was a chocolate brownie sandwich and it was heavenly.

The night was ended by a couple cocktails in the Schooner Bar. DW, the sweetheart she is, pulled the Compass out of her pocket looking for more to do. I grabbed it from her hands and threw it over the balcony down to the Promenade. I said "I'm done."

I woke up to an announcement at 6:15 announcing they were ready for Express Departure to begin.

I slept a little longer, then woke up to this sunrise. That's Eurodam in the picture:

We went to the dining for a bite to eat before getting off. Our tags called for a 7:45 departure. When our number was called, we went to the Promenade and walked right off. Surprisingly, there were NO LINES! Once again, it was an absolute breeze. Oasis disembarks from 2 gangways. Even walking through the terminal was constant and smooth. The only waiting was maybe 5 minutes at the CBP line. That's it. It was the easiest disembarkation I have ever seen.

We had lunch reservations this day for Giovanni's Table in Central Park.

This was my favorite meal of the whole cruise. It was EXCELLENT! Lunch was $10 per person and we had Caprese, Antipasti, Seafood Pasta, Veal Meatballs, and the Tiramisu. I will go as far as to say the tiramisu rivaled what you would get in Italy. If there is only one specialty restaurant you book on this cruise, make it Giovanni's Table.

Was your waitress, by any chance, Cecelia?

A great innovation on this ship is these touch screen panels at all the elevator banks:

If you were lost or just didn't know where a particular room or venue was, you just touch this screen, type in your room number or choose from the ship's venues, and it lays down a red dotted line telling you exactly how to get there. It also had the daily compass.

Another thing that's little, but nice, is the snooze function on the wake up calls. When your wake up call comes in, just hit 1 on the phone for snooze.

Entertainment - This ship has, by far, the best entertainment ever. Every show got a standing ovation and it was well deserved. Even the live bands were top notch.

Announcements - Oasis has the typical RCI announcements. They are common, but not annoyingly frequent. The problem is, you could never hear them. Actually, that may have been a good thing.

Coffee - Worst coffee ever.

Paul,

Since this was your first cruise as D+, what was your favorite D+ perk?

Jodi

Jodi, on this particular ship, it has to be the Concierge Lounge. The room, itself, along with the great service, was more than expected.

Otherwise, I'd have to say the reserved show seating was nice.

Paul...I have no plans to go on Oasis or Allure, because I prefer the smaller ships in the RCCL fleet, but your photos and review could help push me over the edge...

Great review...thanks for sharing with all of us!

BILL

Thanks for the wonderful review! We've not been that tempted to book Oasis- just seems too big and over the top for us, but as I read these great reviews, it makes me want to try it out.

Ditto!

I had no desire to sail on a ship this big. I've even been hesitant to book Freedom class but after reading this review I may have to consider the Oasis or Allure for my birthday cruise 2012.

As a D+ perk, we had a bridge tour at 10:00 am. It was very interesting to see the Oasis bridge and all the modern technology. Unfortunately, pictures were not permitted.

Odd.............we took lots of pictures, and the bridge staff happily permitted it. They posed, too.

Day 5 was capped off by the 70's Street Party in the Royal Promenade. It was a blast.

I shot 2 videos of this event and uploaded them to You Tube. The second one is for the ladies...

Many thanks for those!

It looks like you took some "CC advice" and stationed yourself in the Schooner Bar! ;)

Here's an interesting, yet pathetic note. They are having a problem with people stealing these art pieces off the walls. This is one of the hallways leading to the casino. Over 200 have been stolen.

Hmmm, maybe it's time to install security cameras and put that facial recognition technology to some good use.

I couldn't believe how many were broken off from my first trip in January to the second trip in May but I think that someone at RCI should have been smarter about this. Too easy for people to break off and take. I see this eventually coming down.

Paul, thanks for your review and photos, what kind of camera did you use for those night shots? What was your settings?

We leave this upcoming Sat for a b2b on the Oasis, looking forward to it.

Yes, it was. She was wonderful.

And she should look familiar to anyone who has taken a Royal Caribbean cruise.

Yea, it kinda sucked. Was Thor your Captain? They said it was his rule.

Trym. Different captains, different rules.......apparently. I have NEVER been told not to take pictures, on any ship.

Here's a shot looking down the spiral stairway going down from Focus, through the Promenade, down to the casino:

Whoa!!!! Vertigo!

We saw them making repairs when we were onboard. Someone told us (I have no recollection who) that there ARE security cameras in the area...........

We may all be making incorrect assumptions that the vandals are anonymous and are getting away with this. Royal Caribbean may well be catching and charging them for the repairs.
