Back to back cruises

2little time

We are contemplating adding an additional cruise onto the one we are already booked on. It basically leaves the same day on the same ship that we currently would be disembarking on. If we decide to add the additional cruise, do we have to disembark even if we book for the same cabin?

Where might it be going?

You may want to post what cruise you have and what you are considering as some b2bs are legal and others are not.

It also depends on where you have been and where your turnaround day is in reference to how it is handled (do you have to get off and go through customs or not).

Try to post more specifics.

If the turnaround is in a US port, you will need at some point to leave the ship and then get back on to satisify immigration. (You do not fill out a customs form until your final disembarkation.)

You can either do this on your own by leaving and sightseeing and then returning in the afternoon, or you can meet at an announced time on board with other passengers doing this and you will be led off and then back onto the ship.

Procedures may mary in other countries, but if you need to get off, the amount of time to do this is brief.

Whittier to Vancouver, then Vancouver to LA.

You will not be able to do this as US law prohibits transport on a cruise ship from one US port to another US port without a stop at a distant foreign port and Canada does not meet this criteria.

Even though you would like to book this as two cruises, the law considers it as one.

I agree with caribill - this is not a legal cruise. Long story short but on the West Coast, you can not start and end in a different US city. There is more to it but that is an easy rule to go by. You can not book this trip.

Just to add - you can do this if you switch ships. There may be 2 ships within a few days of each other coming from Whittier to Vancouver. If you do that trip and then switch ships, you can then go to LA. It is worth looking into to see what ships are available and what you schedule allows. You may just need to spend some time in Vancouver for a night or two or three.

ok guys. I am confused. There really is a "cruise" from Vancouver to LA for 4 days leaving September 21.

The "Cruise" is on the same ship....Island that we are on in Alaska.

Right, you are just not allowed to book both cruises if you are on the one that reaches Vancouver on September 21.

On the West Coast you can't start in one US port (Whittier) and stop in another (LA). This is illegal if you stay on the same ship.

You need to switch ships if you want to get to LA.
