Rare whogo Posted October 30, 2010 #26 Share Posted October 30, 2010 I used the coupon for "free" minutes on my last cruise. I could not double up with my wife's coupon for more free minutes with the same internet account. Prepare to be disappointed with the coupon books. If anyone tells you that the coupon books are worth $400, snort in their face.
CrystalLady Posted October 30, 2010 #27 Share Posted October 30, 2010 The booklets are either a perk from your TA, or a perk for booking during a special HAL promotion period. ShipMaven aka
luvcruisn' Posted October 30, 2010 #28 Share Posted October 30, 2010 I am supposed to receive a coupon book as part of my booking with my TA for my next cruise. With the previous booklets, I have only used a $2.00 off coupon for a Bingo card purchase.
buffy13600 Posted October 31, 2010 #29 Share Posted October 31, 2010 Hi, WE just got off the Zuiderdam on the 24th. Those books were also on our sailing. We however did not have one in our room but both of my sisters did. We just went to the front desk, and they gave us 2 for my husband and I. There were many others in line also getting the books..all the front desk did was ask for your cabin number and mark down that you had received one for the number of pasengers in your cabin. Everyone in line was getting one.. no questions. So I assume it was from HAL itself.. as eveyone was from different places etc and they were just handing them out. I usd a few things.. good if you were going to spend anyway. You could get a free bingo card if you bought one, free souviner glass etc, you also could use the coupon to get a free entry into one of the slot tournements if you already bought one.Fyi.. only the person who bought slot entry already can us the second..ie you can't share it with Dh ec. So.. it was a little helpful. Buffy13600
Krazy Kruizers Posted October 31, 2010 Author #30 Share Posted October 31, 2010 So if all you have to ask is ask for them -- maybe that is why we got them -- sounds like HAL right now if promoting them -- just to see if people are using them. That makes sense to me.

ShipMaven aka Well -- they aren't from our TA and the cruises we book have never been when there was a special HAL promotion.

jtl513 Posted October 31, 2010 #33 Share Posted October 31, 2010 The only time we got the books in our cabin they were marked as a gift from our TA ... but we've used this TA many other times and not gotten them.
bob brown Posted October 31, 2010 #34 Share Posted October 31, 2010 These books are nothing more than a sales aid to sell on board goods and services. The line does not just leave them laying around in a rack as then more people would recognize them for what they are. Instead they use psychology to make recipients thing that they are "getting something".

And the coupon books have been discussed on this board many, many times. Very interesting.
buffy13600 Posted October 31, 2010 #36 Share Posted October 31, 2010 Hi Ruth, I also found it interesting, also very rarely have every seen them before on several cruises. I thought maybe it was a "test' to see what people were interested in..lol Buffy136

MardiGras316 Posted December 7, 2010 #38 Share Posted December 7, 2010 I emailed my HAL PCC the other day asking about the coupon book. He said he/they weren't availble to give out but that someone going through a travel agency could get one. I'd love to have one for my Dec. 23rd Noordam cruise. Is it a HAL generic coupon book good on any one of their ships? If so, if someone had one they weren't using could you get in touch with me? I'd be happy to send a SASE to get it from you before I leave on the 21st of Dec. I would actually use a few of the coupons for things I am going to be purchasing on the cruise. I do LOVE to spend money on cruise ships! And they see me coming!!! The $55 bottle of body wash on Celebrity one time was the most outlandish thing I have bought....... gjohnson75 Posted December 7, 2010 #39 Share Posted December 7, 2010 I have one of these from the cruise I just got off. The only one I used was the match play in the casino and the free slot tourney entry. I would be happy to drop it in the mail for anyone going out soon. Just PM me if you are interested. sunny54 Posted January 19, 2011 #41 Share Posted January 19, 2011 Hi, the one thing that looks interesting in the new coupon book is the Pinnacle Grill dinner with purchase of 7 bottle Admiral's wine package. As a 3*** Mariner, we would get 25% off the wine package...does that mean we wouldn't be able to use the Pin Grill coupon? Anyone run into this? Thanks!! Rare kazu Posted January 19, 2011 #45 Share Posted January 19, 2011 I'll take the coupon book any day of the week (I rarely get them). we take longer cruises and always order the 7 admiral pack of wine, so a free Pinnacle Grill dinner is just fine with me. there were a couple of other things I have used in the past. Not really big ticket items, but they were used. Now if the NA hadn't had noro last cruise, I probably would have tried the spa & thermal pools, but with the pools shut down, I couldn't do it. Too bad, one didn't know if advance if they were in use for the cruise and could just go get one. I rarely get the books - in fact my last one was courtesy of a kind cc member on the boards who sent me hers :) now how nice is that :D:D but although they are coasters to some, they can be of use to others. If you are going to spend the money anyways, it's nice to get something back - and a free PG dinner is just fine - and no problem at all :)
the2ofus Posted January 20, 2011 #46 Share Posted January 20, 2011 Hmmm...in 15 HAL cruises I have never seen a coupon book. Guess I will ask at the front desk next July. I might use a spa coupon and Dear Sis and I might use the wine package.
airlink diva Posted January 20, 2011 #47 Share Posted January 20, 2011 On my December cruise, I received two coupon books via my travel agent. Now I guess it was a promotion because this was the first HAL cruise that it was offered. I used the 10% off the laundry coupon and the coffee coupon. I didn't use the majority of them because they didn't appeal to me.
SilvertoGold Posted January 20, 2011 #48 Share Posted January 20, 2011 Hope you get the coupon book -- many people do not get them. And I still have no idea how we got them. It seems that these coupon booklets are a promo put on by HAL at certain times. Maybe they are based on GAP points, but each time we have had them, there has been advertising about them as part of a sale, usually along with OBC and/or Pinnacle dinners. Juanita462 Posted January 20, 2011 #49 Share Posted January 20, 2011 We got two on the last cruise and gave them to a TA that was on our trivia team. Next time we get them we will take them to our CC meeting and offer them to anyone that wants them. Shame to waste them.
