gobo2 Posted February 24, 2014 #951 Share Posted February 24, 2014 I don't think I've seen this yet. Sunscreen can take the lettering off of your seapass card (and deposit it on your skin!) I didn't think this would be a problem but I had to get a new card at guest services before leaving the ship for a port because they may not have let me back on. I had my card on a lanyard and had to replace it twice (at no charge of course) during my five night trip. Yes, I spent a lot of time on deck and am a big believer in sunscreen.
gobo2 Posted February 24, 2014 #952 Share Posted February 24, 2014 Help!!! I'm cruising in a week for the 1st time on a RoyalCaribbean ship...(Freedom Of The Seas)...I wonder if anyone can tell me if there's enough mirrors in an inside stateroom (deck10) so that while getting ready we are able to see the back and/or side view of ourselves?? I know that's a strange question but a 'front view only' is a bummer while getting dressed up for formal nights and trying to put my hair into an 'up-do'! I hate to pack a hand mirror and then it's at risk of shattering in my suitcase. Some ships I've been on have a mirror in the bathroom cabinet that we pull out and maneuver it so we can see side views of ourselves. Others have one flat mirror in the bathroom and another flat one in the main room. Not gonna cut it :( I was on Liberty last week in an inside cabin on deck 6 and I could see the back and side of myself in the mirror. There was a mirror on the desk and a mirror on the wall behind it. I'm assuming all the inside staterooms on Freedom class are the same?

Carnival Glory 2012 Disney Magic 2011 Carnival Triumph 2010 Carnival Victory 2009 Disney Magic 2008 Carnival Inspiration 2008 Carnival Victory 2007 Carnival Triumph 2002 I always carry a hand mirror, just in case. You can just pick up 1, or 2 from the dollar store. Bury them separately in your cases/cases. I need the magnifying side as well, so I recently found a stand up one at the Goodwill. Baowen Posted February 24, 2014 #954 Share Posted February 24, 2014 So the great 2.00 debate someone is trying to start. I have seen 3 threads that had post deleted and the thread locked because the great 2.00 debate started. But as to that I did ask on my latest cruise and they have no problem taking 2.00 bills they just deposit them with the rest of their cash tips. No muss no fuss. I even had one ask me if I had one they wanted it as a souvenir. And that is all I have to say to on this thread on the 2.00 debate. Eat more SHRIMP Oops- didn't realise there was a $2 debate! I'm going to have to search and find those threads- strange!! It was just something my dad always did when he cruised. spyke5 Posted February 24, 2014 #956 Share Posted February 24, 2014 being nice is never a bad thing. just as a side note I usually wait to the second day because the first day so hectic for them. I am a big believer that people mirror you. if you come at them as an ass they treat you that way. if you're nice they will respond in kind. and in no way am i this good but I do try

tnfcruise Posted February 24, 2014 #958 Share Posted February 24, 2014 Lots of good tips here, yes, I read all 48 pages of them, over a couple days though. Some I'll use, some I wont. I find it funny as all get that some people, it seems to be those with a lot of posts/time as a member who feel the need to shot down others suggestions/thoughts/ideas. And no, sorry but I dont care how long you've been a member/how many posts you have, I'll use a version of the golden rule.. I'll treat you as you treat me. 8P Maybe those people who have been here awhile need to take something other than a cruise then, or keep their negative nellie thoughts to themselves? Why would you care what others do, bring, carry? Just because it works/worked for you doesnt mean it works for another. Sheesh 8) Amen! sharpasice Posted February 24, 2014 #959 Share Posted February 24, 2014 We bring the 3 outlet plug. No problem. Some people who carry power strips say they are fine as long as they show no signs of wear. On the Oasis this past October we brought a power strip and were told by security that is was good since it was brand new and UL approved. I did read that somewhere on CC so I purposely brought a new one..no problem.
Tucker in Texas Posted February 24, 2014 #960 Share Posted February 24, 2014 One washing tip: the onboard shampoo is no good for hair, but it's fine to use for washing clothes. That's why we call it "detergent." I had lunch once with a crew member in charge of supplies and asked him just what was it. He didn't know. Said it just comes in a big unnamed container. FireStation46 Posted February 24, 2014 #962 Share Posted February 24, 2014 I found my one or two spots at a bar (one near the pool, one inside the ship). I got to each one before it got mobbed. At first drink I left a $10 or $20 tip to start. During the week I would spot them a few bucks, usually less than $5. They remembered me. I got service rather quickly and during the slow times I had a nice conversation with the bar tender and learned about them and their country. I noticed those with short arms and low pockets were quick to fuss and moan. Seems the tippers tend to avoid those folks in conversation. I met a lot of nice people. We also tipped our cabin attendant in cash personally. They work so hard and were so friendly and accommodating they made the trip fun. I hope the staff I met on my last EOS cruise will be on my June cruise.

All it costs is whatever dignity you brought on the cruise with you. ;) Unless people are serious about it being an actual paid event... that just sounds weird for something like that. IngramTXcruisers Posted February 24, 2014 #969 Share Posted February 24, 2014 Escargot is available at Chops and Portofino on the formal night that it is offered in the MDR. But you have to ask. I read that they don't serve escargot in main dining room on Oasis?! I recently sailed on RCCL Serenade of the Seas and had wonderful escargot every night on my TA. travelbuddies Posted February 24, 2014 #970 Share Posted February 24, 2014 (edited) @anthony63Lol! Well, maybe the 'stars will align for me'!! That made me laugh! And you're right...there's no def answer. We will be getting on the Freedom in a week at Port Canaveral (3/2). Worst outcome is they will keep my Welchs! I'm gonna try it and see what happens. Carnival Glory 2012 Disney Magic 2011 Carnival Triumph 2010 Carnival Victory 2009 Disney Magic 2008 Carnival Inspiration 2008 Carnival Victory 2007 Carnival Triumph 2002 I would put it in a small duffle bag and put an RCI luggage tag on it and check it with my other luggage at the port. Good chance it shows up in the cabin. Susan Edited February 24, 2014 by travelbuddies
Pack My Bags Posted February 25, 2014 #971 Share Posted February 25, 2014 (edited) If you need money, you can avoid $5.00 ATM fees & cash advance APR fees on your credit card by taking out "cash" from the casino by charging it on your sea pass at the cashier cafe. This way, it is just a regular charge in your credit card. This of course, being in case you need money legitimately, and NOT to gamble on your credit line. Maybe 2 or 3 but 5%?? Well... STILL BETTER than paying 28% APR on your credit card for a cash advance. OR $5 for ship's ATM charge plus whatever your bank charges for not using their ATM. You never know what some islands have to offer or how far you may need to go for cash. Also, believe it or not I have been on board a ship & the ATM was out of service. Thanks for the update.
