jmps Posted November 29, 2010 #3 Share Posted November 29, 2010 The NY strip steak in the MDR has always been a proven good choice for us. The surf and turf (filet and lobster tail) was also very good. On our two HAL cruises the lobster was a good sized cold water tail that was very tender. The filet was very good as well. The crab legs were very good. Our daughter actually got these from the MDR when we were eating in the Pinnacle that night, she likes them so much. I don't like sage so the Pheasant wasn't for me. One suite lunch and a Mariner boarding lunch was an Indonesian sampler that was very tasty. The steaks in the Pinnacle are very good. The Ribeye is very large and good for a person that likes a lot of meat. The breads are excellent. I would say we haven't thought many of the deserts are worth the calories. fann1sh Posted November 29, 2010 #4 Share Posted November 29, 2010 Rack of Lamb, medium. IIRC, on my cruises it's been offered on a formal night, along with things which sound more appealing (to me). I never cook rack of lamb at home, and I would never order it "medium", either. (I occasional braise lamb, Greek style, very well done.) But, this entree has been a clear, consistent winner. Cold fruit soups. (Something I would never have tried unless I read it here.) Free cup of cappuccino after dinner. However, if you want more caffeine after that, you must ask for regular coffee. If you're in fixed dining, your server will catch on, and do this every night. Let me echo jmps: Breads are great, cakes/desserts are not. However, I do like the cookies and the bread pudding, both in the Lido.
andeesue Posted November 29, 2010 #5 Share Posted November 29, 2010 I've always enjoyed the cappucino as mentioned above. One can order it in the MDR at any meal without cost. It's so nice to eat there for breakfast and/or lunch just to be served so elegantly.
markpark Posted November 29, 2010 #6 Share Posted November 29, 2010 My favorite was the short ribs.
78232 Posted November 29, 2010 #7 Share Posted November 29, 2010 My favorites are bread pudding in the lido at lunch time and waffles at breakfast. The strip steak from the always available menu was excellent. Most things were good but they blend together in my memory. I enjoyed the sandwich station in the lido for lunch. It took me several days to find it though. Marcia
mescat4 Posted November 29, 2010 #8 Share Posted November 29, 2010 my favorite- Raisin Buns for breakfast in Lido or MDR! Ev
sail7seas Posted November 29, 2010 #9 Share Posted November 29, 2010 I (usually) really enjoy their available every night grilled salmon. I also like when they have traditional gazpacho, not the one with mango which I find to be very sweet.
FunForUs Posted November 29, 2010 #10 Share Posted November 29, 2010 I know you said menu items, but afternoon tea is my favorite. Also really enjoy the cappuccino in the MDR.
KirkNC Posted November 29, 2010 #11 Share Posted November 29, 2010 All the soups, Osso bucco, king crab and short ribs are among our favorites. My wife really enjoys the snapper also. My daughter would add any dessert with chocolate . Kirk
Lesinindy Posted November 29, 2010 #12 Share Posted November 29, 2010 I really like the Escargot, never thought garden pests could taste so good.
KSCnCA Posted November 29, 2010 #13 Share Posted November 29, 2010 Fresh berries with my room service breakfast! I also love the seeded bread served with dinner in the MDR - I've been known to take the leftovers to eat the next morning. Room service called and asked if I wanted something to go with the butter I ordered (with my coffee) and I had to admit to being a bread thief. :o Now off to the gym to work off the bread and butter I plan to eat in 34 days! jplewis Posted November 29, 2010 #14 Share Posted November 29, 2010 Are escargot on the menu more than once? Or do you know if you can request them if not on the menu? I'm not sure if we really like them or garlic butter they're cooked in.

canadarocks Posted November 29, 2010 #16 Share Posted November 29, 2010 We really like almost all of the food in the MDR, especially the soups and entrees .... but I don't think their salad options are as good as they could be. :(
ore-ee-gun Posted November 29, 2010 #17 Share Posted November 29, 2010 Another vote here for the cold fruit soups, and the waffles in the Lido. The panini sandwiches are also delicious - the selection changes daily, but every one I had was great.
srm54 Posted November 29, 2010 #18 Share Posted November 29, 2010 Love the french onion soup (all the soups really) and the bread pudding with vanilla sauce. yum
WhansaMi Posted November 29, 2010 #19 Share Posted November 29, 2010 . I would say we haven't thought many of the deserts are worth the calories. I would generally agree with you, with the exception of the Grand Marnier soufflee. That I enjoyed. :-)
knuts1 Posted November 29, 2010 #20 Share Posted November 29, 2010 Do they have crepes. They have them on NCL each day and my DD had them every day.

mamaofami Posted November 30, 2010 #22 Share Posted November 30, 2010 My favorites are the cold soups (zillions of calories) chocolate volcano in the Pinnacle (ditto for the calories) and the escargot.
ccruisequeen Posted November 30, 2010 #23 Share Posted November 30, 2010 Glad to see a real "surf & turf" dinner, instead of a "seafood melody" as I am allergic to crab & have had to ask for double lobster on other ships as a substitute!
Rare photomikey Posted November 30, 2010 #24 Share Posted November 30, 2010 Just off the Oosterdam less than a month ago. Happy to say that I would eat lunch at the Sandwich station everyday for a year if I had one in my livingroom, and would be glad to have some combination of the waffle station and the omelette station for breakfast each day forever. For dinners I was generally unimpressed, and that says a lot for a guy who is impressed with sandwiches, waffles, and omelets.
