2. Pick up all specialty glasses to be washed and resold from both the bars and pool area unless the customer specifically asks otherwise.

If you leave a souvenir glass laying around they will be picked up' date=' but [b']I don't believed they are washed and reused, as I said I don't know but I will ask the question.[/b] The same goes with souvenir glasses in your cabin, if a dirty glass is laying around in your cabin it will be removed.

why wouldn't they wash them and re sell them? whats the difference regular glasses get washed and resold. unless the lettering or picture is damaged I don't see why they wouldn't.

According to two Hotel Directors (one being on the Epic), souvenir glasses are never washed and re-sold, they are discarded as trash. The only way you will see one being washed is if it being returned to a guest clean.

My issue would be if I ordered three drinks over the course of the afternoon, and got charged $2.25 extra for each of the drinks for the souvenir glasses and nothing was said about it - the waiter just took the glasses right back to the kitchen and kept bringing out new ones and charging me for each glass. That's dishonest IMHO. Now, if I knew there was a charge for each glass and I wanted them, no problem, or if I got charged once, and then refills were brought out in my original glass and I was just charged for the drink, once again no problem. But don't charge me for a glass and then take it back to the kitchen without me knowing that I've paid for it.

Are these the "hurricane" shaped glasses. Those definitely held more than the newer souvenir glasses.

Were those the glasses you were talking about? They sure look like they hold more, but I was surprised they held the same amount.

It is my understanding that if you ask for a re-fill (and you have to ask) then they will bring it in the same glass and not charge you for the glass again. If you order a drink and don't specify then they may take the old glass to throw away and will bring you a new one and charge you for it. Or you can specify when you order that you want your drink in a plain glass and not be charged for a souvenier glass.

Of course....but my issue is that when you order a drink and you are handed it in a souvenir glass and charged for the glass, then order another drink and they take away the old glass, bring you a second drink in a new glass, and charge you once again for the glass, never mentioning that is what is happening. I consider that dishonest. Now, if they said "the price includes $2.25 for the glass, would you like another souvenir glass or just a refill?"--that's legit, but you said yourself that you have to ask, and how many people know to ask?

I only have experience on the Dawn last year. When I ordered a frozen drink they automatically came in the orange NCL souvenier cup. In the casino, whenever I would order a second one I was brought a second cup. I finally asked if these cost extra and was told yes. The server never tried to refill my cup I was holding. He just brought me a new one. On the 3rd drink I requested a regular cup. Later in the week when my husband and I ordered regular drinks they were not brought in the souvenier cups. While I'm sure you can get any drink in any cup, I don't think they automatically bring you regular drinks in the souvenier cups.

Again, IMHO dishonest. Glad you had the sense to ask, so many people don't realize and cruisers like that are a windfall for cruise lines. It makes me sad that a business would stoop to this level. I don't have a huge problem with bringing the drink in the souvenir cup the first time, but refills should either just refill the souvenir cup or ASK if you want another cup for $. Not doing that crosses the line.

I don't recall them taking the first souvenier glass away, but it was long ago (but if they did take the first glass away why do I have so many in my cabinet:o), so your scenario (order another drink and they take the old glass away) is not normally what is supposed to happen (I'm not going to say that it never will happen because anything can happen). The way it is supposed to work is you order a drink, you get the glass and pay for it. When you order another drink they bring you a brand new glass leaving the old one on your table.

Yep' date=' those were the ones. Vintage NCL souvenir glasses.

Actually, the *true* vintage glasses were made of... glass! (What a concept, huh?) I had two from my very first cruise, which was on the wonderful Norway back in 1987. They might still exist-- I gave them, along with a ton of other stuff, to charity 10 years later after my divorce, when I sold my house. I got a couple of the plastic hurricanes on my latest cruise to make up for that. :)

We still have a couple of the glass one from the Norway also in 1989.

So glad someone thought to point out the "souvenir glass" racket. We caught on to this when we were on the Majesty a couple of years ago. We ordered drinks in the theater a couple of times and when we realized we were paying more to buy the glasses we asked the server if we could please just have the drink in the regular glass. She said no, we had to buy the glasses. We already had several glasses and didn't want any more to squeeze into our suitcases, so we told her we just wouldn't have the drinks then, thank you. Finally she relented, but acted like she was doing something wrong by bringing us drinks sans souvenir glass and the extra charge.

Okay, I've never sailed on NCL before but do have several other cruises under my belt and I swear, I don't mean this to sound the way it is probably going to, but here goes....

Don't you have to sign for each drink they bring you? Can't you check your receipt to make sure you are paying for what you ordered? How could you not realize you are being charged for a souvenir glass?

Again, I don't mean to be snarky, but now I am worried that I won't be getting receipts and signing for my drinks and if that is the case I am now very, very worried about how much $$$ I am going to spend on drinks on my upcoming cruise. Those little pieces of paper keep me in line.

You will get a receipt for each drink you order. :D They don't always keep us in line, but it does help! ;)

You do get a receipt but it isn't itemized (Drink- 6.25, Souvenier glass- 2.25) it just shows the drink total. I am pretty sure anyway. I have to go through my stuff and see if I kept the receipts. I also seem to recall the Freestyle Daily saying "drink of the day is xxx in a souvenier glass 8.50" and then regular drinks listed for 6.50. Of course my memory is not what it ever was:rolleyes:.

I didn't find any receipts but did find the Freestyle Daily's from our first Sky cruise. On the top of the inside page is information about the daily bar specials. It does specify which drinks come in a souvenier glass and they are more expensive than the other drinks listed.

(BTW, if you order a 2 for 1 special and the drinks come in the souvenier glasses you will still pay for the second glass.)
