What im about post is not to be as a big noter.

First hand by my self. my company is one of many on the volenter list to cheak houses that been flooded or partly flooded so that the power and water can turned back to these houses now that said.

My thoughts only are on all of what I have seen is just horrable in what has happened to people and so many people are helping them get through it.

We drive into streets that look like a war zone, The army check any one who is wanting to enter and if you can show proof they do not let you in.

because of looters.

no photo's are able to be taken un less you are press or if you get some you wont be able to enter again,

There are trucks and bob cats and end loaders every where tring to get rid of the rubbish and the smell gets into every thing.

Mostly the people that live in the flooded area's are so great full for what every one is doing , but you can see the disprair in there faces.

THere are trades people every where some get paid and some dont, I saw two tradies meet today one got paid and the other did it for free as the people had nothing left, The tradies that got paid gave half to the tradies that didnt.

Most do not give bills but some still do ( we Dont)

There so many companies that are supping fridges and toasters and cookers free,

There are people on the sides of the roads giving out free water and free hot food.

I could go on for a every long time about all the people and companies that doing every thing for free and are happy to do it and A HUGE THANK YOU TO ALL OF THEM.

Lurking storm threatens chaos in Brisbane

January 18, 2011 - 4:19PM

AAP

A severe storm lurking over southeast Queensland could leave tens of thousands of homes without power and hamper flood recovery work, Energex says.

The Bureau of Meteorology said at 2.30pm (AEST) the storm was over Boonah, southwest of Brisbane, warning that damaging winds, very heavy rainfall, flash flooding and large hailstones were likely.

The storm's tracking northeast and by 3.35pm was due to hit Greenbank, just south of the city.

"A storm of this size can very easily knock 20,000 to 40,000 homes off the grid," an Energex spokesman told AAP.

Severe storms cause more chaos for Qld

r498222_2618747.jpgA severe electrical storm with hail has battered a nervous south-east Queensland. (ABC Local: Richard Johnson)

Severe thunderstorms have caused blackouts and

dumped hail and heavy rainfall across parts of south-east Queensland this afternoon.

The State Emergency Service (SES) says there have been wind gusts of up to 95 kilometres per hour around Amberley near Ipswich, reports of hail at Gatton and trees have been brought down across power lines in Brisbane's west.

Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) forecaster Peter Otto says the activity is now moving to the north of Brisbane.

"It looks like things are trying to move north of the Lockyer Valley as well," he said.

"There's a bit of a band of these storms pretty much from Brisbane arching up towards Samford then Esk, locally heavy rainfall and then less intense rainfall, spreading out.

"People in the Lockyer Valley now have probably seen the worst of it for today."

The government, which has promised to bring the budget back into surplus by 2013, is expected to foot 75 per cent of the cost of reconstruction, suggesting that the population of 22.5 million could be issued with a bill for around $660 each.

Julia Gillard, the prime minister, has refused to rule out a special levy on taxpayers to help fund the recovery effort.

QUEENSLAND is on alert for more extreme weather in coming months, Premier Anna Bligh says.

She says severe weather patterns are expected across the state as the wet season rolls on.

Bureau of Meteorology experts last year told the Government to prepare for a hammering the likes of which have not been seen for almost 40 years.

Residents of the flood-devastated township of Grantham in southern Queensland have asked to be given privacy.

The residents have started going home to their once-picturesque Lockyer Valley town of 370 people.

Most of the 20 deaths from the southern Queensland floods have been in the Lockyer Valley. Twelve people are still listed as missing.

Residents have started returning to the town, where little is recognisable from last Monday when a wall of water tore it apart.

Grantham's residents have not been allowed to return home since the flood as police were effectively treating the town as a crime scene, picking through the debris for the dead and missing.

They will be given at least another week on their own to grieve, with the Lockyer Valley town closed to non-residents

‘Business as Usual’ Cruise Season a Boost for Flood-Battered Queensland Tourism

Wednesday, 19 January 2011

Seven cruise ships from Carnival Australia’s global fleet will make nearly 30 calls at Queensland ports before the end of March, giving the Queensland tourism sector much needed momentum following the State’s disastrous floods.

As Queensland recovers from the flood emergency, it is a case of ‘business as usual’ for cruise ships carrying thousands of local and international passengers whose onshore spending will help boost local economies. Meanwhile P&O Cruises is also helping to raise money for the flood cause onboard its four ships.

King tide could mean more flooding

BRISBANE City Council has warned flood-ravaged residents that a king tide expected on Friday could flood areas that escaped inundation during last week’s disaster.

Lord Mayor Campbell Newman said residents who lived near creeks, foreshore and riverside locations and those in low lying areas should prepare for flooding.

“A king tide is different to a river flood, and my message to Brisbane residents is that while some of you may have stayed high and dry last week, you could get wet on Friday and over the weekend,” he

said.

ENTIRE suburbs devastated by deadly flooding might never be rebuilt, Premier Anna Bligh has conceded, as Brisbane's residents brace for another flood emergency tomorrow.

With thousands of residents still homeless and businesses wrecked, Brisbane Lord Mayor Campbell Newman yesterday urged people living near the Brisbane River, creeks and low-lying areas to prepare for a new bout of flooding fed by tomorrow's king tide. "There is significant potential . . . for suburban creek flooding," he said.

Wild weather continued to hammer Queensland last night as a string of storms dumped torrential rain and hailstones from the Gold Coast to Gympie.

Flash floods swept through the town of Rockhampton yesterday, inundating cars, while nearly 18,000 homes were blacked out after the thunderstorm cell roared through Toowoomba and the Lockyer Valley last night, compounding misery caused by last week's deadly flash flooding.

McGorry to help with the traumatised

January 20, 2011

THE mental health expert and Australian of the Year Patrick McGorry has been hired to help Queenslanders cope with the mental toll of the floods, as a new authority begins planning how the state will rebuild the damaged bricks and mortar.

Queensland Health has asked Professor McGorry to visit flood-affected areas and help mental health teams with the task of caring for people who have been traumatised and shaken by the disaster.

The Premier, Anna Bligh, has also appointed an authority to develop and implement a statewide plan for rebuilding.

Family who lost all finds joy in Rue's return

January 20, 2011

HAVING lost everything in the Brisbane floods, Lyn and Ron Butcher were relieved when the one thing that could return to them did.

The couple's 14-year-old border collie, Rue, disappeared in distress shortly after they evacuated their Rocklea home last Tuesday.

After a fruitless search, followed by the inundation of Brisbane's streets, the Butchers were not confident they would see their pet again.

Advertisement: Story continues below

''We went around the streets for hours - it was 11 o'clock at night,'' Mrs Butcher said.

''We had to give up in the end and I just had to hope the RSPCA would pick him up.''

Rue was found on Monday, 80 kilometres away, at the Queensland Animal Welfare League's Coombabah shelter on the Gold Coast.

He was one of 22 dogs evacuated to Coombabah after the RSPCA's Fairfield shelter was hit by floods, and the first to be reunited with owners.

At last count, the Queensland Animal Welfare League was housing 116 animals at its Stapylton and Coombabah shelters.

Plea for council to buy flooded homes may be in vain

January 20, 2011 - 4:03PM

Residents with homes left devastated by last week's floods have asked Brisbane City Council to buy their properties - but they may have missed their chance, according to the councillor for one of the worst hit areas.

The council has had a buyback scheme in place since 2006 for 207 of the most at-risk properties, but only 45 had taken up the offer when floods streamed through the city last week.

Those that have changed their minds may now spend years on a waiting list unless council allocates new funding for the scheme.

Kiwi flood volunteers return home

A team of New Zealand volunteers sent to help flood-stricken Australia have returned home.

Civil Defence Minister John Carter said the 15 men and women, the first Civil Defence response deployed internationally who spent 12 days in Queensland, could be proud of the contribution they made.

"Everyone on this team is a volunteer and they have given up traditional holiday time to help our neighbours in a disaster situation that is devastating for families, farming communities, businesses, towns and cities," he said.

TOWNSVILLE pubs have run out of XXXX beer because of the Brisbane floods, forcing brewer Lion Nathan to send a shipload of the amber fluid north to replenish dwindling supplies.

XXXX corporate affairs manager Leela Sutton said a ship carrying 50,000 cartons had left the Port of Brisbane bound for Townsville as soon as the port reopened yesterday.

"That's on it's way to Townsville and then of course we'll be looking at rail and road as soon as we'll be able to access them as well," Ms Sutton said.
