rollie Posted February 5, 2011 Author #51 Share Posted February 5, 2011 Shorty, no extra charges for the adult pool area. This cruise line is very unlike NCL, who loves those extra charges. By the way, we are from just south of you in Slinger. Rollie
lvskaui Posted February 5, 2011 #52 Share Posted February 5, 2011 SoBe2010, sorry I'm so late getting back to you. I can't remember the name of the band, but they were very, very, good, and a pleasant suprise. They wern't your tipical steal band playing loud music at the pool. They were a very good band that played a lot of different music. A lot of 60s, 70s, and 80s stuff. They wern't too loud. I was on this board a few months ago, ranting about the loud pool bands, and this was a nice change. Rollie I have to agree with Rollie--we enjoyed the party band, they were very versatile. My DH had a couple of negative comments about them, but then he's a musician so he is very sensitive to the occasional off-key note. Contrary to others' comments, we thought the theater entertainment was mostly fantastic--especially the comedians. Just depends on what your cup of tea is I suppose. Redtravel Posted February 6, 2011 #53 Share Posted February 6, 2011 Everyone has a different time. I loved the entertainment while many others didn't like it. I thought that the service was fair while many people raved about how good it was. I did not enjoy my assigned waiter....and I.loved select dining. With all vacations, there are many variations...good and bad. The only thing that nobody can complain about is that the weather which was a welcome warm during a miserable winter. The sun did shine...and it felt great. Enjoy the good memories ...forget the bad...and look forward to another warm cruise next winter.
MartinsCruise Posted February 8, 2011 #54 Share Posted February 8, 2011 Hi I am going on the 4/8/11 cruise with you. Are you going to the Cruise Critic Party. I am from Wisconsin and just recieved 17" of this white stuff. We are signed up for the CC party. We've had a lot of snow and ice and are really ready for the Caribbean! For those who have used Select Dining, do you recommend it. We normally do late seating but with all the ports, we thought we'd try select for a change. ExRockyMountainGal Posted February 8, 2011 #55 Share Posted February 8, 2011 I was on the January 14th cruise and had traditional late seating. In retrospect, I wish I had done Select. We did not have a great experience with our dining room service -- not bad, just not wondeful. I did a review our our experiences on the cruise in another thread. MartinsCruise Posted February 9, 2011 #56 Share Posted February 9, 2011 I've read that some thought it was too crowded as far as the table arrangement. Was this the case on the Millennium?
Rare ORV Posted February 9, 2011 #57 Share Posted February 9, 2011 I predict you will see more and more of the MDR real estate converted over for Select.
rollie Posted February 11, 2011 Author #58 Share Posted February 11, 2011 We were assigned a table for 8 on the 2nd level. We wern't real happy with the wait staff on the first night. After the first night, we were asked to change seating assignments, and we agreed. We then had a table for 8 on the 1st level at the bottom of the stairs. The wait staff for this table was much better. We did notice that dinner seemed to take longer for us than at many other tables. We and our table mates always arrived on time. Happy Cruiser 6143 Posted February 12, 2011 #59 Share Posted February 12, 2011 Glad to hear you had a good time on your cruise, Rollie! How would you compare 6144 to an aft C1? And isn't it the pits to come home to this weather? Come on Spring!!!
rollie Posted February 12, 2011 Author #60 Share Posted February 12, 2011 Linda, you poor girl. You've had one nasty winter there. I've seen some pictures of all your snow. It was great having a cabin in suite country. I'm not sure who it was, but a waiter of some sort pushed around a desert cart with coffee and tea every afternoon, and asked if we would like any. I only tried it once, but it was nice to have the offer. The teak balcony floor was awesome. That being said, I'm not sure that I like it over an aft balcony. The view of the wake is sooooo cool. Minoushka Posted February 12, 2011 #61 Share Posted February 12, 2011 rollie, We're considering the Millie for our first Celebrity cruise and have a few questions about the following ports: Tortola, B.v.i. In Tortola if you have time Take a ferry to Virgin Gorda and the baths You can walk to the TERMINAL Speedy offers ferry and Taxi ride to baths for 38$ When you get there walk to the LEFT ..a good 15 minute walk to DEVIL"S BAY .....GORGEOUS!!! I f no time ...picture perfect beach at BREWERS BAY a little more quiet than Cane Bay Beach 2) Do you know which of these offer the best snorkeling? Rollie That would be the butler for the suites bringing the treats around. Actually, the very same treats are available up on the lido deck. The butler must have thought you were cute--we never had one offer us treats! Fortunately, I've missed a good portion of this nasty winter. Was cruising the Caribbean for two weeks at Thanksgiving, in Raleigh for Christmas (where we got hammered by 8" which is about the equivalent of 16" where you and I live and caused the airport to be shut down, which wasn't pretty), and then spent January out west. That being said, I'm READY FOR SPRING! There's still a lot of that snow hanging around. Were you excited to see the Packers win the SB? Glad you enjoyed it down in suiteland. Was interested to get your perspective because I know you usually get afts. Although now that they're charging so much for C1s, doubt we'll be in either again. I liked them when they were all the same price!
klam_chowder Posted February 14, 2011 #63 Share Posted February 14, 2011 I've read about glass blowing demonstration on Celebrity - does anyone know if it's done on the Millie? Going to AK if that's relevant. cheers, :)
rollie Posted February 14, 2011 Author #64 Share Posted February 14, 2011 Linda, if we didn't get such a good price we wouldn't have gotten a C!. We just couldn't pass up the deal. Oh yea, we were excited about the Packers. I never would have thought, with all the injuries, that they would have made it so far. We're looking at the Equinox for next winter. Have you ever done a Solstice class ship, and what were your thoughts. I feel so at home on the Millie class, I hate to change. Rollie

Arwen Posted February 15, 2011 #68 Share Posted February 15, 2011 What can I say, what a great cruise. 10 days in paradise. The staff has to be the best on the high seas. From the senior staff being at the Cruise Critic party, to Steve the CD meeting people coming back to the ship with cold towels and a glass of champagne. Yes, the ship is getting on in years, but everything was spotless. We were lucky enough to get cabin 6144 and was not dissapointed, but the service here was not any better than any other cabin. We thought that being in suite country, we might be getting top dog service. The ports on the 10 day itineary were fantastic, and Curacao is now our favorite port. If you have any questions, ask away. Rollie Hubby and I are leaving for a southern Carib cruise on the Millie in just two weeks. The only thing of real interest in Curacao appears to be the extremely popular, Dolphin Academy. We both love dolphins, but we decided not to do this as 1. expensive and it is already booked. 2. We had a dolphin encounter experience in Puerta Vallarta (loved it, too!) So, please :-) share with me, what it is about Curacao that you liked so much and do you have some suggestions on what to see and do there. Thanx! rollie Posted February 15, 2011 Author #69 Share Posted February 15, 2011 Arwen, Curacao was our favorite port on this cruise. In the morning we snorkled at Playa Porta Mari beach. We did this with our CC group so we got a pritty good cab price. Afternoon was spent in town. This is not to be missed, as IMHO, it is the cleanest and nicest port in the Caribbean. You can walk into town right from the ship. The floating bridge is awesome. Rollie
phoenix_dream Posted February 15, 2011 #70 Share Posted February 15, 2011 On our one and only time in Curacao we rented a car and drove around the island. We went to see the aquarium, which was nice if small. We stopped at the factory that makes curacao liquor - that was fun. I'm sure we saw a few other small sights here and there such as churches but none stick out in my mind. We then returned the car and walked around downtown, which we liked alot although we felt it did not have as nice of shopping as Aruba. Car rental and driving around the island are very easy - no issues with directions or driving.

rollie Posted February 16, 2011 Author #74 Share Posted February 16, 2011 Thanks Gabrielle, that's very nice of you to say. CLL Ranger, I'm not quite sure what you are asking, but here goes. This is a very port intensive cruise. That being said, the ports are some of the best in the Caribbean. Here is a tip for San Jaun embarkation. There in a liquor store just past check-in, on the dock. Your allowed two bottles of wine, and soda. Rollie
