Palmetto Pilot Posted September 10, 2012 #26 Share Posted September 10, 2012 ....and coffins. I have been told I would be surprised how often they are used. 3 1/2 years ago while Jim and I were cruising (and getting married in Alaska on the Radiance), a co-worker lost her husband to a heart attack on a beautiful beach in Bermuda. Royal Caribbean produced some angels who took very good care of the family on the return trip and stepped in to expedite arrangements. They even comped $700 in phone charges. Some ultra-long range airliners have refrigerated "morgue" space for a body or two, as well for the same reasons.
ksuds Posted September 10, 2012 #27 Share Posted September 10, 2012 I was told by one of the security officers on a ship that some of the ships have up to 4 cells/brigs. I mostly see someone with "issues" get confined to their room with a security guard sitting outside their door.

cruiseatick Posted September 10, 2012 #29 Share Posted September 10, 2012 I wonder how the food is in the jail:confused: do they get leftovers from the mdr or can they order off the regular menu:D
Lady_Gamecock Posted September 11, 2012 #30 Share Posted September 11, 2012 Somehow though, I still envision being offered an "After Dinner Shot" and/or a Cookbook to read.... :D ...in the Brig, of course... Not the Morgue.... Lady_G

Aquahound Posted September 11, 2012 #32 Share Posted September 11, 2012 I've never seen Royal offer any pay tours like this. Sometimes high-ranking C&A members can get bridge tours or the like. Or do like me and join the world of maritime criminal investigations. ;) I can say first hand cruise ships absolutely do have jail cells. On another note though, not all have morgues as suggested. They do improvise though. I've seen rooms chilled down to cold before. In fact, a cruise ship is capable of chilling an entire deck if necessary. CntPAcruiser Posted September 11, 2012 #35 Share Posted September 11, 2012 On our last cruise, a couple at our dinner table had a great story about the empty cabin next to theirs being used to confine a violent, suicidal woman who had tried to harm her husband and throw herself off their balcony. It was noisy for a day and half and security were posted, then they and the noise were gone. Their cabin steward clued them in.

True Texan Posted September 11, 2012 #37 Share Posted September 11, 2012 On a Carnival Ship (Conquest) we watched a uniformed gentleman escort a handcuffed man off of the ship right before we disembarked. We were told he had been in the jail. I know they will hold people in there the entire cruise and no, they do not get their money refunded. Aquahound Posted September 11, 2012 #38 Share Posted September 11, 2012 How did you get into this line of work? 7 years military, 7 years police force, and a CJ degree. Coincidently living in a port city that needed someone to fill the role didn't hurt either. ;)

reney313 Posted September 11, 2012 #40 Share Posted September 11, 2012 Oh my...Those are two rooms I don't ever want to be sent to (knock on wood!!). Yes, very interesting topic. We hear from people who have been kicked off the ship, who had a medical emergency, or who were sent to the "naughty room". But I honestly have to say I haven't heard from anyone who "went to the brig" nor a family member/friend who had a deceased love one in the morgue. (Thank God!). It must happen more than I realized. Sad :(

mad-dog74 Posted September 11, 2012 #43 Share Posted September 11, 2012 While off topic, seeing the word 'morgue' caught my eye... I am a funeral director. One time, we had a gentleman who died from a heart attack while aboard a RCCL ship. He was removed at Grand Cayman, and we made arrangements with locals there. No contact with RCCL, but I did wonder what happened while on board. Upon talking to the family, they told me he was taken to the medical facility. That was all they knew... They all disembarked the next morning to make arrangements to travel home. That incident peaked my interest,so on our next cruise, I visited the medical facility while my wife was getting at the spa. Somewhat reluctant at first, but after showing my license, a shps doctor talked with me quite awhile about what takes place if a death occurs. We had a great conversation. A lot depends on the circumstances of the death, natural, accident or suicide, but I learned a lot from him. Also, not all ships have true morgues, but most have a refrigeration unit to store bodies, somewhere hidden near the medical facility. Depending on the ports, regulations of the country, etc. determines if a body is removed or kept on board back to the originating port.

Classynfun1 Posted September 11, 2012 #45 Share Posted September 11, 2012 Sure buy the story....where's the proof sorry but I am buying bs on credentials. We all saw true lies.... Huh?? i don't understand why you jump to this conclusion? Why would someone post credentials on a message board? You'd be surprised how many people work in all aspects of criminal justice. I was an arson and fraud investigator for several years before I went the way of grad school and a non-related corporate leadership role. Money talked, so I walked. Still miss *some* aspects. I believe him based partially on my work experience and just because he posts are credible. Still don't get the doubt, but whatever...

jailer19 Posted September 11, 2012 #47 Share Posted September 11, 2012 They usually won't let people see the brig as it is a security issue. I know there is one on board and working as a CO in the county jail, I would love to see it from the right side of the bars sometime but I don't think that will ever happen for anyone.
