What's the strangest thing you've ever seen on a cruise?

Cruzface, I agree with the others......that is a really strange art piece on a cruise ship. :D:D:D

We should do that in a year or so....have a thread with photos of some of the more unusual "art" onboard. :) We have to remember to start photographing some of the "pieces"

Wish I had pictures of the Vegetable people - Deck 9 - portside towards the aft - to share. That ship does easily win the strange artwork contest.

A couple of years ago we had an aft balcony on another cruise line. We had left to attend a cocktail reception. My husband ended up with a headache and left to go back to the room to get some medicine, It took forever for him to return. When he did, he said you'll never believe it. We had a curtain that was always drawn around the bed at night (it was a suite). On this curtain was a bat...yes, a bat. He opened the sliding doors, and hit the curtain from behind and the bat flew out. He took pictures before he did it since he knew I'd never believe him. What makes it worse, is that a couple of nights prior, I remember waking up and looking up at the ceiling and seeing a shadow of something...thinking there was a moth in the room!! We contacted the ship personnel, showed them the pictures, and they had a team of people in the room within minutes making sure all was well and there were no other bat friends in the room. Leaving the balcony door open at night is something I'll reconsider doing in the future!! At least that's how we assumed it got in...

My favorite was the woman arguing at Guest Services on the Majesty before it sailed demanding to see the captain IMMEDIATELY because her coffee pot had been confiscated and she could only take her meds and eat while drinking the special brand of coffee she brought. Otherwise, she apparently would be the first person to starve to death on a cruise.

The second best was having my 14 year old nephew thrown out of a hot tub at 2:00AM and escorted to his cabin by the Youth Security Patrol on the Caribbean Princess, with the two much older hotties he was there with arguing that he should be able to stay because they would watch over him.

Les

Love this; what a great story for nephew to share with his friends!!!

Speaking of the Newlywed Game, there was a couple in their mid 80's among the young couples and the last question asked to the husbands, was where were you when you last made whoopie, well the elder gent said his MIL's sofa. Wives return and when the CD asked his wife the question, her reply was, We don't make whoopie anymore" this brought the house down then was asked, when you did where was it, her reply, her Mothers sofa, there was a huge applause.:)

This thread is hysterical and I have been following along on a daily basis! Thanks for the humor!

We were in our 30"s on our first cruise in 1994 on Holland America with another couple and we had chosen an excursion by bus to a lagoon in Cozumel for snorkeling. We got our gear and proceeded down the stairs into the lagoon only to see some lightning in the distance and decided we better wait until this storm passes.

Well, this was a torrential storm with flooding around the area and lightning and who knows what is in that water on the paths now?

In the meantime we changed and the tour guides yelled we HAVE to go NOW the parking lot is flooding. So in our haste I threw the towel over my head because I was being vain and ran headfirst into a tree OUCH! My girlfriend's husband ran in the opposite direction so my husband had to find him and my girlfriend was helping this poor woman who fell on some stairs and couldn't find her wig that had gone into deep water.....ah yes, there it was and it looked just fineeee after she slapped it back on her head!!! Sorry but time to LOL! So as the story goes....we ran down this path as it is lightning and we are knee deep in water to the parking lot that now has so much water in it that you could no longer see the wheels of the bus. We boarded the bus soaking wet just to get all the glares of all the elderly people who were COMPLETELY dry. We sat down and didn't speak a word all the way back. WAIT! WAIT! There is one more thing I left to the end...WE CARRIED THOSE @#$% 50 LB. TOTALLY SOAKED SHIP TOWELS BACK TO THE BUS BECAUSE BEFORE WE LEFT WE WERE TOLD WE MUST BRING THOSE BACK. WE DIDN'T WANT TO PAY FOR THEM. It was all so worth it! Sneer! Still laughing about this calamity to this day.

No question, seniors fighting over a row of 'saved' seats in the movie theater. I almost busted a gut watching them roll around on the floor

Oh, and the same group kept going into the theater during a Catholic church service before the movie, and asking 'Are you done yet?', and when the service was done, pushing into the theater before people could get out

After watching a few of these shows, we have concluded that a lot of them are "staged". On one of our last cruises, the couple in their 80s were so spot on with all their answers that it just couldn't happen. They couldn't even remember which seats they were supposed to sit in, but the memory for that stuff 60+ years ago was pretty instant. Sure, there's that long term memory vs short term memory stuff, but really... :p

It's just entertainment and they all received the same parting gifts (so to speak).

Of course, after reading these posts, there's quite a bit of entertainment almost everywhere on the ship - if you are in the right place at the right time.

We know a couple that always volunteers to go on this game. They pretty much know what type of questions they are going to be asked and they agree on what the answer will be before the game starts. They usually win.:)

Right before dinner on a formal night they had a Not So Newlywed Game in a small lounge. Recently married #1 American couple, #2 middle aged American Couple and #3 an older South American couple that spoke in an accent. They had the men leave the room and asked the women "What is your husband's favorite condiment?"

Lady #1: Ketchup

Lady #2: Mayonnaise

Lady #3: Trojan

At this point we all were laughing so hard my mascara was starting to run. But everyone totally lost it when the husbands were brought back in and believe it or not Husband #3 matched his wife's answer.

Off the main topic, but saw this and could not resist.

I work with a young man who recently went on a NCL cruise for their honeymoon. They were picked for the show.

When he was backstage, and the questions were being asked to the ladies, he was told the questions and was told what answers to give!!!

One of the questions being asked was the favorite condiment. He was told to reply that he did not use condoms!

So yes, some of these shows are staged.

During the days of "horse racing", our tablemates decided to get wild and carried some rumballs from the Lido buffet up to the stage and nonchalantly placed them behind the horse's butts. A few minutes later after waiting in line for a ticket, he proceeded to walk over and look down at the rumballs, look back at us, shrug his shoulders, pick one up, sniff it, made a face, then bit it - then proceeded to spit it out making awful faces. The passengers paying attention to the stage went hysterical. :D

By the way, he was a lot of fun and got us into all kinds of "innocent" trouble!

On the Costa line a few years ago where one of the shops sold beautiful silk pieces that you could tie into formal wrap around dress.

Very snobbish Italian couple walking past the bar on formal night- she was gorgeous - her dress slips off onto the floor to revel a very tiny G -string and thats all!

Her husband was not at all impressed and started yelling at her.

OMG I totally forgot about one of the Pool games on princess and show with the crew.

Pool Game: Contestants dove into the pool by 2's, swimming to the end and climbed out, ran to a chair with a cracker and balloon and proceeded to eat the cracker then blow up the balloon. After tieing off the balloon proceeded to try and pop it by pouncing on it in the wading area around the pool. It was to funny seeing the balloons flying off in differant directions.

Show: 6 passengers, 3 men, 3 women, joined the crew on stage also 3 men, 3 women and this time took the balloon straddling the lap of the opposite sex ( facing them), and tried breaking the balloon by bouncing on the lap of the crew member. The poor young lady crew member had a 200 lb passenger trying to bust his balloon on her lap. Our ribs were aching from laughing so hard.

Several years ago, my husband and I were on a cruise that stopped in Martinique. We went to a beach there where they were vendors selling things. One gal was selling bathing suits. There was a customer trying one on right on the beach. (It was a topless optional beach.) We get back to the ship and we are in the hot tub talking with the other passengers, and lo and behold, the gal who was trying on the suit is in the hot tub with us!

On another cruise, we were at the pool watching pool games when one of the contestants decides he is going to drop is suit for all to see. The cruise director took it in stride. However, the next morning when we docked, we noticed the contestant being escorted off the ship with his luggage.

My teenage son has seen plenty of late night adult drunkeness on ships. One time it was after the ship employee Christmas party and the drunk employees were staggering down the decks with their name tags still on!

I was playing blackjack in the casino on board Mariner. A woman was circling the tables, maybe looking for a free seat, when she pushed her way between me and the man sat next to me. She peered in my face from about 4 inches, then peered at my cards on the table. Everytime something happened - another card, a bet, whatever, she would peer into my face and/or at the table very closely .

Maybe she was short sighted but after 15 minutes or so it got decidedly odd.

We were on a Carnival cruise that I had actually won. It was in October of 2007. This was the Caribbean so it was HOT. We passed several people on this ship that had bubble vests on and high top work boots on that were unlaced?? It was like going shopping in Walmart. (sorry folks we are not Walmart fans whatsoever). It just looked so out of sorts with the weather and the cruise. I mean it was 90ish!

This was just one of many bizarre things that happened on that cruise. We had a lot of 'not so nice' things happen as well. Needless to say, my family asked me never to enter any contests that a Carnival cruise was the prize. (it was really bad)

A few years back my wife and I cruised with a lady who only wore a housecoat (the paper thin variety) the entire week. However, she did have at least two that we saw. In the evening she dolled herself up with a moo-moo and jewelry.

Some people you may only see once or twice on a 7 day cruise, but I can't tell you how many times we saw her. Although it was more fun watching peoples reactions when she walked by.

The funniest on I remember in when my late wife and I were on the Seabourn Sun in Punta Arenas. Our cabin was on the ocean side, not the dock side.

She was did not have a top on, and was looking out the window. She yelled -there is a light out there! I figured she meant something on shore, but I went to look. There was a tugboat with the bridge even with our cabin shining a floodlight right at us!!

One night my DH and I were sitting at the bar in a lounge on the Brilliance with another couple that we have known for many years. When the wife left to go back to the cabin to get something, a woman we had nicknamed "Drunk Girl" because of her previous antics on the ship moved right over next to the husband, snuggled right up to him and started stroking his thigh. He was in his late 50's and not a "player" by any means and was too polite to say anything. He just kept looking at us for help and we were too busy laughing to help much (we had had a couple of drinks). All I could think of was that his wife, who is petite but feisty, was going to come back and there was going to be a brawl. Luckily Drunk Girl stopped the stroking and snuggling and moved back to her seat just before the wife returned. She and I were going to a show so left soon after and I told her about it as we were walking out. We both were giggling, but then got nervous about leaving Drunk Girl with our husbands so we stopped behind this table near the exit with a huge vase of flowers. We peered through the flowers for a few minutes to see if she was hitting on our guys until this big, scary security woman emerged from a glass panel right next to us (must have been a one way mirror). She said "Can I help you ladies?" We said "no, everything is fine" and got out of there fast. We nicknamed the 6 ft security lady "Helga" and saw her a few other times on the ship. We would giggle when we saw her and joke that she was keeping an eye on us for the rest of the cruise. So beware, Big Brother is watching - which is usually a good thing.

A couple of years ago I was on one of the Princess "small ships", on a cruise from Tahiti and around French Polynesia.

One afternoon on a sea day, I went to the pool deck to relax and read in the sun. There were very few people out there, and a gentleman (?), probably in his 60s, walked up to a lounge, laid down his towel and book, stripped off his shorts, and changed into his Speedo!!! Right there! Totally naked!!! About 4 lounges away from where I was sitting!!

To say I was in shock is putting it mildly.

There were quite a few Europeans on the cruise, and I am guessing he was one of them.

And, BTW, he was one of those men who should NOT have been wearing a Speedo!!!

On my last cruise (Mariner of the Seas) I came back to my cabin to find my cabin mate totally butt naked putting on a "show" in our promenade view bay window for the occupant directly across from our cabin. I was horrified to say the least. I couldn't believe that he haven't been reported to security. He stopped once I came back, but he wasn't too happy that he had too.

In Navigator of the Seas maiden year, I was in the library which overlooks the Promonade when I noticed a large group of people standing on the promenade looking up in the same direction. I was curious, so I went down and joined them and saw what could only be described as a free show: you name it, and it could be seen going on in those cabins. We happened to be seated with a RCCL employee at dinner and I mentioned it to her. She mumbled something like they had "noticed" and were going to have to "put film on the windows" or something. Honestly, I think those promenade view cabins are a big attraction for those who are exhibitionists! Certainly, the crowds below were very entertained! Kind of like Bourbon Street...
