I'm not a big time spender, but I prefer to play at at table of several people, but it is frequently hard to find anyone at those tables.

efiinut Posted March 9, 2011 #6 Share Posted March 9, 2011 Minimum bet on the Adventure last week was $6. That was my experience on the Navigator in December. Want you to play the sucker bet. Also payout odds were 3 for 2 instead of 2 for 1 on a blackjack.

FLHugh Posted March 9, 2011 #8 Share Posted March 9, 2011 On the Navigator in Jan, 2011, there were $6 dollar tables, some $10 and one $25 as I recall. Good Luck
SpeedGeek Posted March 9, 2011 #9 Share Posted March 9, 2011 Thanks for that info. Not sure how much I trust electronic gambling machines. You and me both. I just don't trust the machines that can be programmed to win/lose more or less often.
SI Cruiser Posted March 9, 2011 #10 Share Posted March 9, 2011 I avoid the $6 tables as they are usually filled with people that have no idea how to play. They will split 10's or take a hit on 13 when the dealer has a 6. I believe the $6 tables are $5 plus $1 for the wheel.
sealeggs Posted March 9, 2011 #11 Share Posted March 9, 2011 I won't play on a cruise. You can't buck the casino's odds. You are trapped with no other place to wage a bet. Now Vegas that's another story.
robtulipe Posted March 9, 2011 #12 Share Posted March 9, 2011 If you don't want to play $1 the side (sucker) bet, ie. BJ wheel etc., you usually can play $6 on regular BJ spot to meet the minimum.

With a second player who has 17, the dealer now has to draw again, increasing the chances of a bust. With single deck the multiple players help even more. If house rules call for dealer to hit on anything less than 17, the dealer MUST hit, regardless of what others at the table have. If the dealer does not hit on a 16, then they are breaking house rules and the pit boss should be notified immediately.

The rules of BJ onboard state the dealer must draw to at least a hard 17 therefore the dealer can't stop at 16 even though all players in the game have less than 16. That is why you don't hit a possible bust hand when the dealer's face card is a 6, 5 or 4 and sometimes a 3 in order to let the dealer bust before you do. jmorgania Posted March 9, 2011 #18 Share Posted March 9, 2011 Well back to the original question and an attempt to END the debate on the proper way to play. For a live dealer Allure only had $10 minimum tables regardless of time of day on my sailing on January 30. They did have the video blackjack that you can bet less on. I also agree video BJ is a joke, but so are minimum $10 tables.

I have been playing blackjack for years and have seen "bad" players make hands for the table as often as they cost us a break card. I have never understood the people who get hysterical when someone takes a hit when they supposedly shouldn't -- particularly since the only person whose odds of winning they are affecting are their own. I think you got scammed or did not understand the rules. The number of people at the table, and whether or not people are playing smart (i.e. maximizing their chances of winning) has exactly 0% impact on your odds of winning at bj. My folks were on Holland America last week and it was there. TIA When I was on the Freedom in November there were $6/$10/$25 tables all multiple deck. They had 1 single deck BJ with a $5 min. 75% of the time when I went we had a full table. Fist part of the cruise I happen to be there with the same 5 people and we got to know each other. They even taught me how to play better BJ. Some nights we just got on that winning role and were having tons of fun. That week I ended up $60 ahead when all was said and done. I am looking for that same table when I go back on the Freedom come April.

The first scenario was presented to me by a friend as to why to not play the game as the lone player at a table. I don't play blackjack personally, so I apologize for the mistake. The second point stands, as statistically (read: counting cards) multiple players in a single deck game produce more cards and increased knowledge for players. The second point stands, as statistically (read: counting cards) multiple players in a single deck game produce more cards and increased knowledge for players. While there is a very, very small advantage in single card bj to having several players (but only if you are one of the last players to act and know the math behind card counting). However, this is more than accounted for by the casino as generally casinos have differences in payouts for single deck bj than multiple deck bj that tilts the odds back in their favor (i.e. a blackjack paying less on a single deck table than a multiple deck table). Bj has good odds compared to most options at a casino (if one knows how to play), but the odds are still a bit in the casinos favor. Generally gimmicks such as single deck and bonus wheels put the odds even slightly more in the casinos favor.

Also payout odds were 3 for 2 instead of 2 for 1 on a blackjack. Please tell me where you saw the house paying 2 to 1 on a blackjack, and I'll play there all day long. The standard payout for decades has been 3 to 2. What a lot of the casinos have done in the past few years is lower these payouts to 6 to 5. This drastically increases the casino advantage, and I for one will not play these games.
