UandMe4Ever Posted March 19, 2011 #1 Share Posted March 19, 2011 Hi: We'll be on the Island Princess 10-10-11 sailing to the Panama Canal. On our last Princesss cruise (2006), I don't recall if they make Towel Animals at night or had little chocolate candies on the pillows? Not a big deal, one way or another, but think the animals are cute and the candy, a little treat before bed.;) Thanks to anyone who knows the answers. Safe sails always:)
dbeckett Posted March 19, 2011 #2 Share Posted March 19, 2011 The chocolates definitely happen (and you can get diabetic chocolates too) - the animals depend on your steward but on the whole, no for the animals.

Safe sails always:) We just returned from the Panama Cana on Coral and there were no animals but we had chocolates on the pillows every night. We were on RCL last year and yes, they still do animals, however, they no longer put a chocolate on your pillow. I agree, I think the candy is a nice little treat. Apparently RCL cut chocolates for new larger ships!! Not sure when they stopped as it was 9 years since we sailed RCL. Have been a loyal Princess fan since 2004. Enjoy your cruise - Panama Canal is amazing! :D
kaybeeeeeee Posted March 19, 2011 #4 Share Posted March 19, 2011 Just got off the Caribbean Princess 3 weeks ago. Yes to the chocolates, no to the aminals. Last year on Royal Carib it was the opposite, yes to the aminals and no to the choco and this wasn't a large ship.
Astro Flyer Posted March 19, 2011 #5 Share Posted March 19, 2011 On our November 14 day Hawaii cruise on the Golden, our steward Marco did 2 towel animals. I'm guessing on those evenings he had some extra time & did them. We also got 2 nightly chocolates on our pillows until the 2nd to last night after giving him some extra tip money & a 'you made a difference card' to thank him. I'm guessing that's why he not only made a towel animal but made a heart shaped outline of chocolates on our bed. There were over 20 pieces of chocolates, most of which we saved for our granddaughters. We have given similar tips/cards on other cruises but it was only Marco who made the extra effort to do this for us. :D
Loonbeam Posted March 19, 2011 #6 Share Posted March 19, 2011 Some people on our last cruise did get towel animals. Apparently their steward worked on RC prior and remembered how to do them. I don't think Princess trains their people in that, but if you get one who has worked a line that does before, always a chance.
swom Posted March 19, 2011 #7 Share Posted March 19, 2011 I ask our steward if she knew how to make them and she said yes. We had a different one every night. Ask and you just might receive!!! :D
Nymue Posted March 19, 2011 #8 Share Posted March 19, 2011 We love Princess, but this winter we decided to go with RC. The price was right & we could drive to the port. The 'no chocs' on the pillows at night was a big disappointment. I always looked forward that little treat at the end of the day :p
Pam in CA Posted March 19, 2011 #9 Share Posted March 19, 2011 As said, yes to chocolates, no to towel animals. I'm just as happy they don't as I've had bad experiences with them on RCCL where the steward went through my closed drawers to find things to make the animal look "cute." HAL has towel animals but they have pre-printed paper eyes, glasses, etc. to use instead of passenger belongings.

Hi: We were fine on RCI ~ Our cabin steward only used sunglasses from the top of the dresser....That was it. Do they still serve Champagne upon Boarding and escort you to your room or is that wishful thinking now? They did in 2006! Thanks.

I haven't experienced an escort to our cabin in a long time...can't even remember the last time. Only received a glass of champagne as part of a mini-suite but since I've never been in a full suite maybe both of these are provided for suites???

Our cabin steward on our last RCI cruise used my sunglasses. It was an extremely expensive pair of prescription ones and they were hanging from the ceiling. I was not amused. Did not get mad just told the steward they were actually a visual aid and not just for sun. So they are not a toy, and also told him don't play with our stuff. We haven't been escorted to our stateroom on Princess in so very long, I can't even remember the year it stopped, probably about 10 years or more ago. Champagne IF you are in a mini or full suite only. I don't ever remember having champagne in any stateroom category before they started this new little perk a few years ago for only those in a mini suite or above. Do they still serve Champagne upon Boarding and escort you to your room or is that wishful thinking now? They did in 2006! I don't leave anything out so in order to find my sunglasses (prescription), they had to go through my drawers. That happened several times on two different RCCL cruises. Its been many years since I was escorted to my cabin, and I don't remember ever being given champagne. Princess has staff positioned throughout the Atrium as you board and in all of the elevator lobbies to direct passengers to their cabins. Once you're on the correct side and know which direction the numbering goes, it's easy to find your cabin. Your name on the mail slot helps. So I kind of looked at Rich and said does this guy rifle through everything here when we are gone? Made the cruise less comfortable. The towel animals are cute, but I think for families with kids. Have never missed them on Princess.

It's fine with me either way, just don't go through my things!! I can easily walk myself to my cabin, but nice there are personnel available to ask the general direction/elevator we need. Thank you for your kind response. 2 last questions, please. Do they have interactive TV's in the room? DH likes to check the menu, and how much $$ we're (he) spending on a daily basis...No big deal if not. It's a nice thing. Have they upgraded to flat screen tv's? Thanks again in advance:)
rdsqrl Posted March 20, 2011 #18 Share Posted March 20, 2011 Depending on the ship, they do have flat-screen televisions. No interactive capability, however. The menus are posted outside each of the dining rooms, and will usually be up the evening before. The Purser's Desk will happily give you a print-out of your account as often as you wish. Generally, it's not hard to find a time when there's no one waiting in line so it only takes as few seconds -- probably much faster than fiddling around on a television screen with a remote control. Some ships have installed kiosks that will print it out automatically for you when you swipe your card but I'm not sure which ones -- if yours has it, it'll be located right near the Purser's Desk. Oh, and there are at least two different flavours of pillow chocolates, so they'll rotate each night. Red foil wrapped dark chocolate hearts, a square one wrapped in blue Princess paper, and I forget if there are others/what they are. All delish, though! Rare PescadoAmarillo Posted March 20, 2011 #20 Share Posted March 20, 2011 I think the red hearts are milk chocolate, the blue wrapped squares are dark chocolate and the round silver wrapped ones are mint chocolate.

ONT-CA Posted March 20, 2011 #23 Share Posted March 20, 2011 I don't think I would ask. Every time we cruise those poor stewards are responsible for more cabins. They would say yes, but they really cannot spare the time. Couldn't agree more. Not long ago the stewards and their carts would be gone from the halls before you knew it. Now they are all still about well past lunch. Chocolates brought home and enjoyed the week following your cruise seems to make the memories last that much longer. And we have never been escorted to our cabin although there may have been a late evening or two when perhaps I should have been...
