My play lately has been a drain on my bankroll, but I have had some lucky players on my tables recently. 1 lucky blackjack player turned $7,000 into $40,000 on my game in 40 minutes last Saturday night. Tuesday night a strong craps player ($300 come bets with full odd 3-4-5) started with $4,000 and walkes away with $48,000. Both players knew to tip the dealers. $100 yo and hard 6 and 8 bets for the dealers was GREATLY appreciated.

I don't sail until the end of August. Cruise ships are the only places I can play. Since they closed the casinos in Turkey a couple of years ago, the nearest land-based casino that is at all trustworthy is in Budapest - that's $400 p/p just to get there. Played in Taba (Egypt, just over the birder) once, about 13 or 14 years ago. Never again! Bad blackjack rules, unprofessional dealers, and I won't swear that the deck wasn't funny. So, it's the high seas for me.

Sorry to hear about your bad luck lately. Wow that a good night for those guys. I have a considerably smaller bankroll ($300 per casino visit) that i play with on a nightly basis so im sure i will never come close to winning like that.

So how do you feed your urge to gamble b/t cruises. I live in houston, tx and our closest casino is in lake charles, Louisiana (about 2 hours away). And sometimes my urge to go gamble gets so bad that i will just take off in the middle of the night and make the 2 hour drive to go there. lol. I guess i need to call that 1800- number to get help for urges like this......lol

Just to fill you guys in on my winning success, i will tell my short story.

I started off only playing blackjack, mainly b/c I felt like this was one of the few casino games that actually involved a stratey (basic strategy) that could help me win money in a casino rather than throwing money in a slot machine and crossing my fingers. No offense to the slot players, because there have been many nights when i have went home pouting and ive seen dozens of people yelling and screaming because they've won at the slots....

Well this worked for me sometimes...sometimes I would win a few hundred bucks, sometimes i would break even (which is a win), and the other times i would lose it all. Then the drought came :(.....I didnt win on a land based casino or cruise ship playing blackjack for almost 6 months (and this is with going to the casino at least 2-3 times a month). So the last time when i was ready to give up on casinos entirely, I was down to my last 20 bucks (bought in with $200) and decided lets go try this craps table where I hear all this hooting and hollering coming from. Because obviously these folks are making some money.

Well at this point i know very little about the game except how to play the pass line. But fortunately, i was palying right next to a VERY experienced player that really showed me the ropes. Long story short, with a $10 min table, I ended up winning my $200 dollars back within 45mins. So with this new found sence of encouragement. I left the casino when i was up $100 and my life hasnt been the same since (LOL, total joke, my life is still the same)

I read as much as i could about craps, the game in general, dice setting, betting strategies.....the whole nine yards. I think the reason why most people dont play craps is because the game is so intimidating. People walk up to a table and all these numbers are spread out and people are yelling out bets....its not a very inviting scene. But if you take the time to do a little research and develop a strategy and dont worry about all the other people yelling out idiot bets that are usually in the middle of the craps table, it is a very rewarding and exciting game.

Since that experiene, which was approximately 7 months ago i have really been tearing it up on the craps table .....I went back every weekend after that first experience for 6 weeks straight until i had a losing session lol....Sometimes I may only win $100 bucks, and the most ive ever won was $2800....but in 7 months, ive only had maybe 3 losing sessions where ive lost my initial buy in of $300 and left the casino.....In total, of the 7 months ive probably won about 5-6 thousand.....not bad for a small timer like me getting to do something i really love and getting free drinks, lol

Moral of the story, dont get stuck on one casino game if its not going well. Dont be afraid to venture out (of course doing research first) and try some of the other games they offer. If playing craps goes sour on me I will eventually learn how to play poker (which i hear has really good odds) to change up the pace a bit......

Thanks for listening to to my short (very long :p) craps success story

Happy cruising folks!

Just back from Vegas....broke even on both craps and BJ.....but lost big time (on craps) the first couple of sessions!

Most ships (and land casinos) offer lessons for free, if you're not sure how to play...Take a lesson, if you need to...it will really enhance your experience! And remember, gambling is ENTERTAINMENT....not a way to "make money"! If you plan on LOSING what you've budgeted to gamble, you'll have a much better time! Should you not lose it all, or even win a bit, you'll be a happy camper!

I live in Houston also...where do you gamble in Lake Charles? Isle of Capri 20X odds craps or Laberge 5X odds? Laberge used to have 20X times odds until the infamous "Action Jackson" from Beamont hit them for $1.2 mill last January in one session. On the same trip he hit Courshatta in Kinder for $1 mill+...they proceeded to reduce their odds to 10X and their max bet from $20K to $10K.

That urge hasn't ever developed in me to that strong a level. Probably due to conditions of life. I lived in NYC and aside from the horses (which to this day I care nothing about) the only legal gambling back then was in Nevada. The woman I was married to at the time was not a gambler, and wanted other vacations besides Vegas or Tahoe. So it was every couple of years. When AC opened up in '78 it became a lot easier to jump down and have a day or two. But those were the years of getting ready to send the kids to college... you know the routine. Now, the kids are grown, their mother is somewhere in space (or is that spaced out??:D) The woman who is my wife now loves to play blackjack, and we both love to cruise.

Im pretty faithful to Isle of Capri, though i do occasionally go to Laberge....Isle of Capri is more my style as they tend to cater a little more towards the modest gambler as Laberge caters more towards the "high rollers". The last time I went to Laberge on the weekend the table limits were $25 .....I walked around for a few minutes and then just left....

I have no problem playing that amont once i have built up my bankroll with the casinos money, buy playing craps with a $25 dollar table limit, that mean with each shooter I will have more than a $100 on the table. That wont last me long playing with a max $300 donation i willing to give to the casino ;)

Isle of Capri is a good casino b/c when i used to play blackjack, they always had those $5 tables if you just wanted to fool around for a while. And the craps table is usually only $5 or $10. And the 20X odds on the craps is alway a plus, even though ive never put more than 5X odds behind any bet. its always good to have that option lol

And i've heard that "Action Jackson" story before.....Im kinda surprised that the Isle still offers 20X odds after the bloodbath the other 2 casino took :p

yea i can see how that situation could deter "the urge". But just makes you anticipation to cruise even larger. Not only do you get to cruise the beautiful seas with the dream wife, you also look forward to doing a little gambling!!:D

Cheers!

The two craps pit bosses @ the Isle Of Capri, Snuffy & Harold are class acts....they go back to the old Merv Griffiths "Player's Casino" days of 15+ years ago when you actually had to PAY to get on the river boat to gamble. No wonder Merv died a billionare...

Oh yes. We met on the Internet back in '96 - one of the first online couples. That summer I wangled a business trip to New Orleans so we could meet face to face for the first time. One night we went to one of the river boats (don't remember which one), There was one seat open at the blackjack table, so she sat down with me playing behind. She was scared out of her wits, never played anything but the slots before that. After a few, we went to the craps table, me playing and she the good luck girlfriend. When she came here for the summer of '98 (she was a school teacher needing 2 more years to early retirement) she asked me to teach her to play blackjack! We got the cards and chips out, and spent endless hours practicing. The next summer I went to NJ, we went down to AC and the rest, as they say, is history.

When we got to the boat, they said there was a $10 admission charge. Conversation went like this:

Are you members here? No

Do you have a Louisiana drivers license? No

Registered with any casino? She said No and I pulled out my Harrahs Gold card.

Welcome aboard!

Have a good weekend and shalom from Tel Aviv. Andy

Indeed, poker is the only casino game you have a chance to make money at over the long run, because your odds are not set by the house; you make them for yourself with your decisions at the table, and if you make good decisions, you can turn the odds to your favor. The house gets its cut (the rake), which eats into your profit (thus decreasing your odds), but if you are a winning poker player, the rake is just one of the costs of doing business.

We were on the Imagination in January and i had a 40 min roll at the table one night . I came out pretty good but the higher rollers really had big sausages in their trays. Lots and lots of blacks and greens. We're going on the Destiny in a couple of weeks(April 14) and would really like a repeat performance if at all possible. Not a bad night for a $5 dollar bettor. We went over to Paridise Island when we were in Nassau and the tables were $25 minimums. So i went in for $100 and got lucky with the first roller that rolled 4 nines in a row and then rolled for about 5 minutes. When he sevened out i cashed and went and got a $15 slice of pizza for lunch. Then i hit the vidio poker and hit 4 jacks with a queen kicker for a couple of hundred then i hit seven quick hits on a slot for $485. All in all it was a nice trip. Enjoy your cruise and have fun.

Well I must say I learned some more about craps on my last cruise on the Carnival Freedom March 6 to the 12th.

Now I'm a $5 or $10 pass line player with 2x odds and nothing was working. There were some good shooters, but nothing was happening. As soon as I got the 6 and 8 stacked to $24 from my presses the 7 would show it's face.

So after seeing these 2 guys racking it in on the don't line, I flipped over for the first time in my short craps history (3 years).

I started playing $25 on don't, with no odds and I started collecting these green chips.:D I wasn't in the mood to play odds on $25 don't, since I was a virgin on this side of the table.

Anyway, after all the pass line guys had left, I cashed out for $550. Great day for a nickel player.

The rest of the week I went for pass to don't whenever the table told me to and came home $1730 up.:D

It was a great learning experience and I will do it again.

Oh, so on the last night, my wife is playing roulette and has all the pinks and is still collecting green and red, and we haven't been to diner yet.

So I say, hon we got to go eat, and she's not ready (did I say she got the DRINKS ON US CARD the 3rd day of a 6 day cruise).

So I still had some nickle chips in my pocket and I laid 5 nickle chips straight up at Roulette and hit for $175.:D So what the hell, I lay 5 more nickles down and hit straight up again for another $175.

We went to eat shortly after and the deli and paid off our Sail & Sign card at the purser's desk.

What a great cruise!!!:D

Andy...when they first opened up gambling in Lake Charles, Louisiana, they CHARGED for parking and the cars were in line because the lots were filled. One boat was docked for three hours while the other sailed for three hours,,,then they reversed positions. The docked boat preparing to sail almost capsized from the people running to get on the docking boat.....no one wanted to be caught on the three hour cruise to the poor house. I've heard rumors about people swimming to shore but I don't they would have survived the polluted water.

I just returned from an 11 night stay at the new Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas. I was there for a mix of work and pleasure - if it wasn't because of work, I would have never gone for more than 3 nights of fun (don't think I can handle that much craziness). Anyways, after 11 nights, I ended up 20% on my total bankroll, which I considered a big success after 11 nights.

If anyone going to Vegas sometime soon, I recommend the Cosmo. The hotel rooms are top notch (most have balconies overlooking the strip) and the staff were the best I've experienced in Vegas. They learn your names and provide personalized service. It's the new place in Vegas so it's always packed with high minimums, but if that doesn't bother you...go for it...

 yea i think thats a pretty good cruise, lol.....I never play on the darkside, as most tables are usually up and down and if you are playing the passline with place bets you will usually come out better than just playing the dont pass line. Now if your mixing in a combination of dont pass and dont come bets, well thats a different story.....But anyway, glad you had fun on your cruise and got to win some money 2!!!! Man reading your story just gets me amped for my cruise in 8 days!!!!!:D

Ive only been 2 vegas once, and when i went i stayed a couple streets back from the strip at a resort :( big mistake......I will have to check this place out ....thanks for the info!

Just got back from the Spirit. I was so incredibly lucky throughout the entire cruise on the video poker machines. Got the free drink cards which helped, and got a free dinner at Cagney's. I really enjoyed my time in this casino. :)

thats awesome!.....can I get that same card if im only playing table games.....or is that strictly for slots/machine players?

Never understood that mentality. The shooter was able to make bets. Just because they did not have the b*lls or bankroll to make bigger bets why should other players tip them? Tip the dealers, they are the ones that are working. When the high rollers go out to eat should they tip another diner, or should they tip the wait staff? When they go out drinking, should they tip the bartender or cocktail waitress or should they tip another drinker??

lol, your analogies are comparing apples to oranges, those scenarios are in no way shape or form similar to the situation at a craps table.....

but besides that, i think it goes without saying that you should always tip the dealers!!!! I usually leave my tipping for when i cash in my chips (as i dont play any of the crazy bets in the center of the table, so i will not tip there) at the end of my session. Which usually is best for the dealers anyway because if ive won enough they will get a pretty good tip rather than a few dollars here and there....

I look at it like this, its just an gesture of appreciation.....your not required to do it and you shouldnt feel bad if you dont....its just a kind gesture.....It doesnt matter what the hot shooter has in his bankroll or is betting.....if it had not been for his hot roll, those "high rollers" would have been handing those big chips to the dealer instead of adding to their bankroll.....

My whole thing is if someone can keep the dice rolling for 15-20+ mins and have earned me over $500 bucks in that time span....i dont feel bad at all throwing them a $5, $10, $25 dollar chip.....it actually makes me feel good:rolleyes:
