New BA Visa offer - 100,000 miles

Here's a new offer on British Air - 50,000 miles with a new BA Visa, plus an additional 50,000 if you spend 2,500 on the card in the first 90 days. It's advertised on BA's home page.

The card is $95 per year, and I'll happily pay that for 100,000 miles!

There's at least one catch.

When you redeem BA miles for "free" tickets you will end up paying much higher taxes/surcharges/fees than other airlines. And $95 pa is too high.

I'd rather get a AA credit card with 50,000 miles than get a BA one with 100,000 miles.

If you use your BA miles to book on a partner, do you still pay BA's inflated fees? ie I'm flying business class on Iberia from PHL to BCN (thanks to this board for helping me figure this out!!) using my AA miles. Would I have paid more if I booked the identical itinerary on Iberia using BA miles or would I pay the same as I am paying now through AA, which is I think about $45 for my one-way ticket.
