carontori Posted April 24, 2011 #1 Share Posted April 24, 2011 I am trying to find out how to get from the pier in Istanbul to the Blue Mosque. Is there a train, tram or bus that is easily accessable from the port?
KirkNC Posted April 24, 2011 #2 Share Posted April 24, 2011 Yes there is a tram a short walk from the pier. Just be sure to stop at an ATM first to get lira for the tram first. Kirk
Rare Hlitner Posted April 24, 2011 #3 Share Posted April 24, 2011 Its also walkable (about 30 - 40 min) if you like long walks. Hank
Rare John Bull Posted April 24, 2011 #4 Share Posted April 24, 2011 As Kirk's answer, there's a tram pretty-well door-to-door to the Blue Mosque (Sultanahmet Camii) . But you do need turkish lire. Alongside the mosque is the Hippodrome & just a few yards away Agia Sophia (various spellings) and the Roman Cistern. Probably best to save the walk for the downhill return, calling in at either the Topkapi Palace or the Grand Bazaar. John Bull

Rare John Bull Posted April 25, 2011 #6 Share Posted April 25, 2011 Thanks for your replies. This makes the decision to DIY much easier. Yep, DIY in Istanbul is easy, lots of folk do it. Be sure to have at least a small amount of Turkish lire for public services - trams, buses, ferries, official admissions, though USD or euros are accepted in most tourist places. Most sights are in Emynonu and Sultanahmet, south of Galata Bridge over the Golden Horn (you berth near the north side) & starting (or finishing, if you tram direct to the Blue Mosque) with the Grand Bazaar & Spice Bazaar near the bridge. There's nothing of interest to the one/two-day cruiser on the Asian side of the city (other side of the Bosphorus). JB
