Trvlingal Posted May 6, 2011 #1 Share Posted May 6, 2011 Has anyone done this evening tour in St. Petersburg? I believe that Holland America has this tour, but it is also offered by independent tour operators. Interested in hearing what it what you liked and didn't like about it, who arranged it (ship or other operator) and would you do it again or recommend it? Did you take a present to the family that hosted you? Thanks for any information you can give me.
cruiselen Posted May 7, 2011 #2 Share Posted May 7, 2011 We had a lunch with a Russian family last year, we had it arranged through Palladium Travel. It was an interesting experience, we did enjoy talking to the hosts with the help of our guide. I'd do it again, if I had a chance. We didn't bring any presents, but left a good tip. sansterre Posted May 7, 2011 #3 Share Posted May 7, 2011 I always try to bring a photo/travel book of the USA when visiting friends or contacts abroad. 20 years ago, they wouldn't have let you bring a book like that into the USSR!

What a great idea for a gift! I wouldn't have thought of it. :)
zelker Posted May 8, 2011 #6 Share Posted May 8, 2011 We did lunch, arranged through Red October as part of our 2-day custom tour (6 of us plus driver and guide). It was a highlight of our cruise, to be sure. FYI, we brought a coffee table book from Colorado (where we live). Others brought something from their respective home states as well. Our host family seemed to enjoy having us there as much as we enjoyed being there. Highly recommend!! :D
