Casino open in Bahamas?

Recommended Posts

While docked in Nassau' date=' is the ships casino open? Since the ship is registered there does that allow them to stay open?

PE, I have cruised to Nassau several times on NCL and Carnival and have never seen the casino open in that port or any other for that matter. I'm sure that they have to be in international waters to open the casino.

Thank you.

The international waters may be a non-issue any more. I was surprised, on our Spirit cruise just shortly after dropping the ropes from the dock the casino opened. This happened in all three dock ports and when we left Belize the last tender left the ship and the casino opened about 10 minutes later.

It depends on the country. The US is fussy about it, Bermuda is pretty fussy about it...a lot of the Caribbean countries could care less.

There are two Carnival sailings that arrive in Nassau and do an overnight there, leaving early the next morning.

For those ships, the casinos are allowed to re-open around 7:00 PM while the ship is still tied to the dock.

Very rare exceptions, indeed.

On our trip last April on the Jewel the casino was opened while we were docked. I have no idea why but maybe since GSC was cancelled due to weather/water and we got to Nassau ahead of schedule. Any other time we cruised there it was never opened.
