Clarea Posted January 22, 2014 #3176 Share Posted January 22, 2014 Thanks for the info! Are the balconies plexiglass or metal? I remember reading that below a certain deck the balcony was metal. I was wondering if it is different between 7 and 8.Thanks! Deck 6 balcony walls are all metal. Deck 7 and above are half metal, half plexiglass. CruiseAddict1982 Posted January 22, 2014 #3177 Share Posted January 22, 2014 When it first opens. Not trying to be funny but if you get there when it first opens for regular breakfast, you'll have your ready made eggs in 5 minutes and your choice of any section of seats. Same for dinner. We don't bother with lunch. First thing in the morning is correct. My wife and I try to get to the WJ when it opens up. Not many people are there and u can pick a seat next to the window
CruiseAddict1982 Posted January 22, 2014 #3178 Share Posted January 22, 2014 This thread is super long so forgive if this question has been asked, but what times do the bars open on the explorer? I was on the Majesty last year and I bought the premium package under the assumption that the bars were open 24/7 which they weren't. I'm not sure, but I think they were open at 10 or 11 am on majesty

I believe you can also get morning alcoholic beverage service (i.e. mimosa's, bloody mary's, etc) in the MDRs with breakfast.
B-52 Posted January 23, 2014 #3181 Share Posted January 23, 2014 While we're discussing the Windjammer' date=' when are good times (with no waiting) to go? Thank you![/quote'] We have been on the Explorer 5 times....and we avoid the windjammer as much as possible, for so many reasons..... Embarkation, we are usually with the first group to get on the ship, so we are at the WJ early for the traditional lunch, before the crowds get there... We will also have breakfast there on occasion, but only if we are there early when they first open...

krazy_dave Posted January 24, 2014 #3183 Share Posted January 24, 2014 (edited) Can anyone tell me if they have Texas Holdem Tournaments on the EOS? If so, when? what are the buy-ins? and are there re-buys or re-entry? Thanks. They do have single table sit-n-goes, 50 buy in for cash tourneys, 100 for Royal poker tour. The tourneys didn't get enough players most days, and we didn't get enough players to qualify for a cruise spot. The cash games were OK, a couple decent players and a lot of donkeys. Last 2 cruises (NCL & Princess) I was on we had to sign up for the tourneys ahead of time and there was a waiting list, they only had one table so they could only accommodate 10 players. NCL has re-buys, last time the guy that won bought in 4 times.. spent $400 to win, $700. Princess - no re-buys which I prefer.
Rare rrraydon Posted January 24, 2014 #3186 Share Posted January 24, 2014 Forgive me if this is already mentioned somewhere in this thread..it's really long. :) Plus, things change rather frequently. What are the dining hours for the WJ? When the WJ is closed is there an area to get iced tea or lemonade? I'm not a soda drinker.

Sometimes Cafe Promenade has iced tea. I've not seen lemonade there. One of my pet peeves about Voyager/Freedom class. Room Service also has iced tea and lemonade, however there is a charge for late night orders.

Even if you're not a soda drinker, you may want to consider the soda card on the Explorer - it has the freestyle coke machines and they offer a lot more than just soda. It also includes flavoured Dasini water, Hi C fruit beverages, Minute Maid lemonade (with flavour add ons), and maybe a couple of others. The freestyle machines on the promenade are available 24 - 7. Cruisin'4Us Posted January 24, 2014 #3192 Share Posted January 24, 2014 Thank you! Are there still two semi-formal nights (on an 8 night cruise) on Explorer? Arzeena Posted January 25, 2014 #3199 Share Posted January 25, 2014 Hello everybody Is E1 8610 the same as E1 9244. Any preference of one over the other? Would appreciate some input. 8610 is the first/corner on the hump.
138east Posted January 25, 2014 #3200 Share Posted January 25, 2014 I'd take 8610 because it is close to the aft elevators which you will use all the time. 9244 is close to the forward elevators and you will do a lot more walking for essentially the same cabin.
