Just Back: 29 May Summit to Bermuda

On the whole a successful week. We were CC in 8175 (in-laws in adjoining 8173), close to aft elevators, good location for MDR on deck 5 and our excellent table (527), and to the sunny aft bar on deck 10. Stateroom attendant Jose was a dream--efficient, affable, accommodating and anticipating our needs. The stateroom a bit tired, worn and soiled upholstery, an OK bed (Jose brought good feather pillows).

We had bkfst in the stateroom every day, hot, generous, and on time. Early seating each night in MDR with fine service from waiters Hervin and David, and our witty, knowledgeable sommelier Fernando. Food nicely presented but quality variable. Fish always overcooked, meats often tough. High points: breads and hot soups, duck breasts rare, vitello tonnato, tournedos, rack of lamb, chocolate souffle (!!!). We're getting a bit bored by the Baked Alaska routine.

Entertainment: once to Celebrity Theater--an over-produced, hyper-active "Broadway" tribute. Deafening. We didn't go back. But a terrific group from Argentina, the So Cool Quartet with a fine singer, Anita Bacci, played nightly in the Rendezvous Lounge pre and post dinner for dancing and listening. Very highly recommended. A bit like being at the Algonquin's Oak Room in terms of the music. We never missed their performances.

Booze: first-rate martinis at the Martini Bar (duh. But none of the other bars had a clue about how to make a proper classic Tanquery cocktail).

Embarking and disembarking: a breeze.

The Summit is the largest ship weVe sailed on. Really too big for us. But the cruise was a success (despite no flushing one night and no hot water one morning). And Bermuda was wonderful.

What is a classic Tanquery cocktail? I have many bartender friends that work in Vegas. They are required to know how to make over 300 drinks to get into the union. They can make any drink you want. The problem is people will call a drink by a different name than what it really is or ask for a drink that they are really not aware of. If you tell them what is in it they will make it.

I Googled your drink and couldn't find a Classic Tanquery Cocktail.
