I've never been bothered, either. Most of the time, the wind from the ship's movement blows any smoke right away.....not sure why some folks seem to be ensconced in smoke! It's never happened on ANY balcony that we've ever been on!!!

Now, in the casino, if there's a smoker on a certain slot machine, I simply will find another to play, if that smoker is bothering me....it's not a big deal!

I voted that I would change ships....but please be advised that I am a non smoker...so any ship with a restrictive smoking policy is the one I will seek out.

The wording of the poll is slanted toward smokers saying that they would leave..not the other way around so I just want to be clear that I agree with smoking restictions

my thoughts exactly. those voting for changing ships aren't necessarily smokers. If i am picking between two cruises and one is more strict with smoking, i'll choose that one.

I am a nonsmoker and I voted YES...

we had actually started talking about trying Oceania for this very reason.

We have friends who wanted us to try Celebrity.....but now the next line we will try will be Princess....when our son is comfortable enough to try a new line.

I will probably cruise more on the Fantasy Class and Dream Class ships because of the new policy

We had decided not to cruise the Fantasy class anymore.....now we can.

woo hoo!!!

I would definitely choose a line based on its smoking policy...if $$$ weren't an issue, that is. I firmly believe all cruise ships should be completely smoke-free in all indoor areas (with the exception of one smoking lounge...not an entertainment venue though) and on all balconies. I'm so happy to see Princess is going this route and if I can find a good deal, I will definitely be sailing them in the future.

I smoke and I enjoy it. I have never smoked in the cabin and until yesterday I didn't know you could. I still won't. Right now the Rules for smokers don't bother me at all. I look at it this way. Most Condos I can rent in Ocean City or Deep Creek Lake are all no smoking. All clubs and restaurants in Md are no smoking. If I can get up in the morning get a coffee and sit on my balcony and have a smoke or go up on deck somewhere that's good for me.

I do have one question for the non smokers if you all don't mind. How many of you stay either in balconys in the very aft of the ship or towards the aft?

Same here - if smoking was allowed in the majority of a ship, I would choose to sail another line. :)

I voted yes because we enjoy our cigars and smoking we feel us smokers need to fight back alittle for our rights there is far worse things out there to attack people on such as selling drugs to kids and drunk drivers who can kill families on the roads ... this is far worse then being jerks and bullys to the smokers. We are so fed up with this goverment and BS over all of this about smokers the worse is west coasters and their yupie thinking. we have only cursied with carnvial and if this gets worse you can count out about 25 family memebers who will stop using this cruise line.

Yes you are EXACTLY right there are LAWS about drinking and driving and in most states now smokers are banned from smoking in bars so they opt to stay home which in turn means NON SMOKERS are now breaking the law by drinking and driving ... too funny how law makers goofed on that one.

I do pick a Cruise Lines for their smoking policy and unless there is a major overriding reason to go on a Line that allows smoking in the SRs, we stick with Lines such as Celebrity. But this Poll is a bit confusing - not only will people concerned over too liberal smoking policies pick the 1st choice, so will those who are bothered by restrictive rules.

On top of that, what's the difference between the last two? Don't care and not concerned with the smoking policy?? Seems to say the same thing.

I missed one answer: if I had two fairly similar itineraries, same quality ship and the price was about the same, I would choose the one with the stricter smoking policy.

We are both non-smokers, and don't like to sit in somebody elses smoke, but we would not pick a cruiseline only for that reason. "The whole package" must be right: quality, price, initerary, travel date etc.

I choose a cruise line based on numerous factors, one being whether or not smoking is allowed in staterooms. My preference is NO SMOKING allowed in staterooms. For that reason I quit cruising Princess, Carnival, and Holland-America, and cruised only with Celebrity. Now that the smoking rules are more prohibitive, I have booked a 14-night cruise for next year on Princess, my first cruise with them since 1999.

How is it goofing? Drinking and driving while intoxicated was always breaking the law - whether a person smokes or not is totally irrelevant.

What you're implying is that all people who go to bars break the law which are comprised of smokers and non-smokers, so the smokers stay home and you're left with the non-smokers...as if it's an unintended effect that they're now breaking the law.

If you drink and drive while intoxicated you were always breaking the law - period.
