Who cancelled a cruise because of the new smoking policy?

What planet are you living on?? Smoking has NEVER been allowed in your cabin (I've been sailing with Carnival since 1993 , when I smoked, and smoking, in other than public areas and on deck was prohibited).

Well if you or your childs health is so precious to you , then the onus is on you to make sure it is a smoking or non smoking area.

I as a smoker always make sure I am in a smoking area before I light up. I look for a sign or I ask an employee whatever.

Non smokers should do the same . I guess they are so used to having such a wide berth of non smokeing areas they just feel everywhere belongs to them.

I think the mother was very wrong for just jumping at the poster like that waving fingers and scolding him.

The poster wasn't her child or her husband so turn off the Beyotch lights honey.

Like one other poster mentioned . You don't know who the hell you are dealing with out in public.. And you don't know what it is that will set them off.

Being a 9-1-1 dispatcher for too mnay years than I care to count , I can tell you there are people laying in coffins, or sittinmg in wheelchairs and or jail for making a simple remark or gesture like that.

I just wanted to say that I was reading some of the other comments about this situation and thinking..wow..you can tell these people don't have my job..then I had to chuckle when I got to the end of your post..because I was nodding my head with your comments..yep..I am a 911 dispatcher. I completely agree with you on this.

I'm not going to debate smoking vs non-smoking....I think the subject should be kept to the question that was posted.

I did cancel a cruise for 02/12 on the Freedom. I did this through my PVP and received a refund of my ES Deposit. I also have four (4) currently booked of which one I am going on Monday with two more before December 1st.

I also emailed Guest Solutions as many others I know did. They came back stating the "normal" ES cancellation rules but did say the $50 pp penalty could be used for a $150 OBC for a future cruise. Guest Solutions stated this is for cruises before December 1, 2011. When I cited and copied John Heald's statement on his Blog Guest Solutions said he made an error! Not a good error to make!!! Don't depend on John Heald's blog, FB or CC for that matter. Call not only Carnival but email and also talk to a Supervisor if given a problem.

Cruises booked December 1, 2012 you will be issued a full refund on your ES Deposits.

On certain class Ships such as Spirit and Conquest Carnival is still providing smokers an indoor lounge to go (with their non-smoking family and friends) to enjoy some music, have a drink and enjoy a cigarette, etc. However, if you are booked on the Fantasy Class this is a different story all together. They stated the Disco as the smoking venue but it does not open until 11:00 at night. They said the Casino Bar will be 1/2 smoking so that is an option if the weather is inclement and folks can't go outside during the day. Also, there will be music in the Casino Bar area in the evening.

What they need to do on the Fantasy class is make the Disco a lounge with "lounge" music in the Evening and then turn it over to the Disco at night. I think y'all should email for them to do so this would solve the problem for this class Ship if anyone is booked or looking to book on it.

If you are booked, either call your PVP or email Guest Solutions to find out the policy on the Ship that you are booked on and then make your decision whether to cancel or not.

Not HAL. This is from HAL's website:

For the comfort of all of our guests, based on an increased desire expressed by the majority of our guests, we are changing our smoking policy as of January 15, 2012.

Presently, all indoor areas are designated non-smoking with the exception of:

Casino

Northern Lights Disco (ms Eurodam, ms Oosterdam, ms Noordam, ms Nieuw Amsterdam, ms Westerdam & ms Zuiderdam only)

Seaview Bar (except ms Maasdam, ms Ryndam & ms Statendam)

Sports Bar

Crow's Nest (except ms Eurodam, ms Oosterdam, ms Noordam, ms Nieuw Amsterdam, ms Westerdam & ms Zuiderdam)

All showrooms are nonsmoking during performances.

There are selected areas of the outside decks where smoking is allowable. Cigar and pipe smoking is only permitted on the outside decks.

Our ships do not currently have "nonsmoking" staterooms; however, all rooms are thoroughly cleaned after each cruise to assure the comfort of our guests

For all cruises departing on or after January 15, 2012

All staterooms will be non-smoking areas, in addition to the other areas that were already defined as non-smoking. Smoking will continue to be permitted outside on stateroom verandahs. There are designated areas available for smoking both inside the ships and on outside decks as detailed above.

Thanks for the post....I'll check that out.

I am a little confused now and have a question. My friend and her DH, a smoker, have an Early Saver cruise booked for the two of them. The cruise is in Nov 2011, which is of course prior to 12/1/2011.

My question is, can she now cancel and use the $50pp ($100 total) as future credits for a cruise for her and me (neither of us smokes)? I was under the impression cruises prior to 12/1/2011 are not qualified to get out of ES penalty?

Does anyone if the new smoking policy affect the new Breeze?

Specifically the 11/24/2012 cruise?

You will not be allowed to smoke in your room. As it is the Breeze, Dream and Magic had very restricted smoking areas before the new policy change. You may want to confirm that there is an Indoor venue for you to smoke in if the weather is inclement if it is a concern. I would contact your PVP and also email Guest Solutions. There is a lot of misinformation being given out so checking with multi-people at Carnival is advisable.

Firefly,

I understand you think you know what people are thinking and why they want to cancel however in my case you are wrong as you may be with a lot of people.

Non smokers complained and said they would not book with Carnival because of their smoking policy and that was acceptable however when a smoker decides that they don't want to cruise because of a policy change that came into effect after they booked and which they feel will take away from their vacation they are foolish and just looking for a way out, ect.

I canceled my 2 cruises because I work very hard for my money and want to spend it where I feel I will get the most enjoyment for my vacation dollar. I kept the cruise in Sep only because I don't have time to change my R&R dates and my wife can't just change when she shuts down her practice. The other reason is I can still smoke in my room if I care to until Dec. After that I have cancelled and rebooked at 2 very nice All Inclusive resorts that were more than happy to get a smokers buisiness.

The nice part is that with the suites we had booked and what we spend on the ship the all inclusive resorts with flight came up to about the same.

The only thing I had to give up was the lines that form on all cruise ships, the children running around as it is couples only, and the blaring tv screen.

I still have beautiful accomadations

beautiful scenery and landscaping

Ocean

5 Star service

free drinks---LIKE

pools with no kids---LIKE

hot tubs with no kids----LIKE

free transport from the airport to the resort

I wish Carnival had a no kids allowed cruise , I do not like other people's kids! But am I going to cancel my next cruise because I know someone will take their misbehaved child on it? I am not anti kid as I have 2 of my own, but some kids:eek: are not very well behaved and have before spoiled a cruise we were on(screaming and yelling in the dining room).

As for the anti smokers, some people choose to smoke just like you choose to do somethings other people frown down on, no one in life is perfect and that is what makes us human! I will enjoy my cruise and I will smoke on my cruise( I will respect the areas I am able to smoke in and will not or never have smoked in my cabin), my money was just as hard to earn as yours and I will spend it the way I want to!

There are days I wish I was a florist in beautiful downtown Mayberry and whistle "What a Wonderful World " all day with a big old smile on my face . With Anne Franks youthful rosy colored glass "Basically people are good " outlook.

Then I realize that after 27 years ,I know more of the evil that lurks in the hearts of men than The Shadow (reference to an old radio show line I am sure you are much to young to remember *LOL*

But hey, where would the guys be if they didn't have us to tell them where to go *LOL*

I think only spa cabins on Dream class ships prohibit smoking?

Our friends and we booked two oceanview rooms on Breeze, 11/24/2012. My friend's DH is the smoker and he was under the impression smoking would be allowed in his OV cabin. So now if smoking becomes disallowed, we need to consider upgrading to coves.

Most people I know would never have lit a cigarette up 8 ft from a baby.

I think you handled the situation very poorly, the mother was concerned about her baby .

However she was wrong to approach you in a smoking area.

But you really were wrong to try and bicker with the husband over something his wife said to you. What could have escalated into both parties being arrested , just so you can light one up. icon13.gif

Most responsible parents I know would not bring their baby within 8 feet of a DESIGNATED SMOKING AREA!!!!

Looks like you would have to do that and your friend's husband would only be allowed to smoke on the balcony. This is why, as a non-smoker, I am not sure I like Carnival's new policy as it only creates more smoking on balconies.

Wow Has this Thread Jumped the Shark........

the Original question was have you canceled your cruise due to the Smoking Policy

No ...I did not but i thought seriously about it and I am a NON Smoker...

I already have my airline tickets and hotel paid for so i decided to continue with the cruise....My future business with Carnival may be different though.....I am getting bored with cruises anyway ...time for a few land based vacations again...

Here is what pissed me off (From John Healds Blog)...And I am sure posted here several hundred times

The modified smoking policy is the result of recent guest surveys conducted by the company that covered a wide range of topics. The surveys indicated that nearly 90 percent of all Carnival Cruise Lines’ guests are non-smokers with less than five percent of guests opting to smoke in their staterooms

I am sure this is a lie and i hate ...i repeat Hate being lied too.I will stop doing buisness with any Company that lies or treats me like i am a stupid consumer not aware of what i am doing.. I think they are just trying to justify there decision and blowing smoke up our butts....only 10% of all cruisers smoke....ya I can tell that by walking through the casinos before and after the showroom...

Dont get me wrong like i said I am a Non Smoker and prefer not to be around the smoke.....but i also believe that smokers should have just as much rights to kill themselfs as the next person...but a fair solution could of come out of this...Like smoking and non smoking floors ...

Anyway i have vented on to the next thread...:D

not sure that is correct... been on the dream twice and as far as I know the only cabins that smoking was restricted was the spa cabins. the casino also has a smoking section ( which you had to be playing for you to partake)

the piano bar also allowed smoking..

That's what I was told. As I mentioned there is much confusion and misinformation being given out. After I copied John Heald's statement on his blog that cruises can be cancelled before June 30, 2011 and refunds issued on Early Saver Deposits and sent it to Guest Solutions they said that it was revised. I asked for a link to see this myself but I received no reply. There is a lot of evading of questions as well. All I can say is Good Luck!

I think a lot of people are forgetting this .. that if there is just one smoker in the group .. who wouldnt cruise because he cant smoke where he could before .. then the whole group wouldnt book the cruise. Saying well 80% of the US is nonsmoking .. it can affect the nonsmokers too.

Firefly, once again spoken with true logic, insteady of rhetoric.

My husband smokes, I don't. We always books a balcony, he's never smoked in the stateroom, he goes to the balcony, but most of the time we are out on decks.

I think it's an awesome solution to a real sticky problem. We did stop cruising Celebrity only because the banned smoking on balconies, the rooms? Who cares??

Cheers and happy sailing, Carole
