oceanseagle12 Posted July 27, 2011 #1 Share Posted July 27, 2011 I'll be arriving in MIA pretty early, and have a room at the IC Miami. I'm looking for ideas about what to do for the day. I've read some suggestions about going to South Beach. Any other ideas? If you can include economical transport ideas, that would be helpful too. There will just be two of us. Thanks! Marie51 Posted July 27, 2011 #2 Share Posted July 27, 2011 If you don't want to pay for a cab you can walk from the IC to Bayside where there are shops and restaurants. http://www.baysidemarketplace.com
girlscruise2011 Posted July 28, 2011 #3 Share Posted July 28, 2011 we took the bus to South Beach last year. Only $4 round trip. South Beach is a happening place to be in Miami. You have to experience it just once. Lots of people watching and believe me, some are worth watching.
oceanseagle12 Posted July 28, 2011 Author #4 Share Posted July 28, 2011 Thanks to you both. Was the bus convenient to south beach?
dmwnc1959 Posted July 28, 2011 #5 Share Posted July 28, 2011 There are sightseeing cruises and Bubba Gumps ;) both which I plan on doing on my trip later this year: http://www.islandqueencruises.com/sightseeing.htm http://www.bubbagump.com/locations/miami/
girlscruise2011 Posted July 28, 2011 #6 Share Posted July 28, 2011 Thanks to you both. Was the bus convenient to south beach? I stayed at the Best Western on the Bay and the bus stop was right across the street. It did get a little crowded but it took us about 20 mins to get there. I'm sure if you check at your hotel with the front desk, they can tell you where the bus stop is. Just remember the bus # for the return back. JohninDC Posted July 28, 2011 #7 Share Posted July 28, 2011 I'd cancel the IC and stay in Miami Beach instead of messing around with a bus or taxis later at night -- lots happening in South Beach within stumbling distance if you choose a good hotel. :o Have a great cruise! :)
oceanseagle12 Posted July 28, 2011 Author #8 Share Posted July 28, 2011 Hi John, I would consider that but it isn't an option for me. Originally, I was going to arrive in MIA late in the day and wasn't to o concerned with doing any thing in Miami. I booked the IC using ff miles and it isn't refundable. I'm fine with that because I got a really good deal. However, my flight is now getting in in the morning, so looking for things to do.
Wineart Posted July 28, 2011 #9 Share Posted July 28, 2011 Best time to go to South Beach is at night.......
cruzin4our10th Posted July 29, 2011 #10 Share Posted July 29, 2011 I think the IC is a great hotel choice and perfect view of the ships in the morning! I would hit Bayside unless you're big into the night life scene. Actually plan to hit Bayside for some outside entertainment tomorrow before our cruise out on Sunday. RHefley228 Posted July 29, 2011 #11 Share Posted July 29, 2011 Go to South Beach, that's the part of Miami you really want to see. Sorry, folks, I think Bayside is a big bore. It's like going to the French part of Epcot and thinking you've been to France.
peacebeach Posted July 29, 2011 #12 Share Posted July 29, 2011 Lincoln Road Mall is a lot of fun for people watching day or night and the World Erotic Art Museum is really cool!

CanWeGoYet? Posted July 30, 2011 #14 Share Posted July 30, 2011 I loved the excursion I took to the everglades, an airboat and campy / redneck tour with an alligator show at Safari World. Son and I really enjoyed it, it was a lot of fun.
MzShelle2U Posted July 30, 2011 #15 Share Posted July 30, 2011 I will be in Miami in 20 days (so excited). I am staying across from the Bayside Market Place which I've heard is a wonderful place to visit. I will probably take in a boat tour and have dinner at Bubba Gumps (which I love).:D

psbfan01 Posted July 31, 2011 #17 Share Posted July 31, 2011 There is a place called Coral Castle in Homestead, FL. It's a bit of a drive so you'd have to rent a car. Rumor has it there are some good Mexican restaurants in the area too. See Wikipedia for more info. I haven't been yet but am planning to go... skandls Posted July 31, 2011 #18 Share Posted July 31, 2011 I really like the IC - great hotel. If you haven't done it - do one of the City Tours. We like to do that at least once in the cities we visit. We are not beach people so we like to tour more than tan. South Beach is great at night - we like to splurge on a taxi to the very end of South Beach and go to Joe's Stone Crab for dinner. This year we may try Garcias - which has great reviews.
