awkward invitations??......

title line got your attention? this post definitely will.

My wife and I cruise a lot, usually 2-3 times a year and most of the time we cruise in small groups with friends. We are in are mid to late 30's and we love to have fun and meet people.

It seems like every cruise we go on we meet people and exchange information and become friends. Lately it has been awkward when we meet people, the last 3 times we met some nice couples on the ship they have let us know they 'enjoy' other couples. AWKWARD!! The first time that was positioned to us we politely said thats not us and we thought that was weird. The 2nd time it was like we felt we had a stamp on our heads...'ask us to swing with you'. We talk with our friends back home and we all laugh and its kind of a running joke if we will be asked to swing on a boat.

Well the 3rd time was just back in August and the couple wasn't at our dining room table but the one right next to us. We would politely exchange hello's when we saw them. One night it was about 9:30-10pm we saw them on the lido deck enjoying the night. We started to talk to them and enjoying a nice conversation over drinks. They were the same age as we were and we had a lot in common......except.....The night got longer and it became a more adult conversation nothing strange yet. We all decided to go to the comedy show together, then after that we went to a club. At the club is where it went south, they started asking very sexual questions and at first we were not alarmed later my wife and I went to get a drink together and we talked before we sat back down with them. I asked if she was ready to get out and she said no we are fine but we made a deal if it got worse we had a hand signal and that meant its time to leave. It was quite comical, the guy had terrible bad breath and he was bald. the questions kept coming and finally they asked us if they could walk us back to our cabin. We said no and went to our cabin.

We were safe the whole time but it seams like we get this a lot? I enjoy meeting people and it seams thats it.

Has this happened to anybody else?

My roomie said she was propositioned, some guy bought her a drink in a bar, and she said he wanted a 3 way with his gf. I didnt hear it personally, but he kept saying nice things to her, and wanted to buy only her a drink, so I took off. It was clear he was interested in talking to her.

During a trivia we noticed a group of about 12 people in the back. Well they won and as one of the woman was going to get her prize of bubble the host asked her who she was going to share it with. She said she was going to share it with her husband of tonight:eek:

We're super friendly too and it's fun to meet new friends to hang out with but one time this couple was friendly with us through our roll call and we were all in the casino and the guy shows us a naked picture of his wife on his camera. We were like WTH!! We thought it was crazy and distanced ourselves but never knew that's what he was proposing until later in the cruise when we found out they had hooked up with another couple and they spent evenings together...

Shon and I kept wondering what it was that we did to even give them the impression we'd be into something like that! Or, if they just try that crap with lots of couples until they get a taker. Either way, it has made us a little paranoid when we talk to new people now.

My wife and I have been RVing for many years and have never had this happen. I guess we've been hanging out at the wrong campgrounds and RV parks, thank God. Just the thought of seeing other people my age naked gives me the willies. :D

Yes..you can choose to have one drink, listen to music in one of the ship bars, sit at a table and have the guy behind you ask you to join them..a couple..and it all leads in this direction..you can not be petting this vibe out at all and it happens..nature of our world.:( Happens to both couples and singles..and they like to do the shock value to lots of more conservative valued folks..s.

Never had this happen to us but we were on a Disney cruise and the couple that we were sitting at dinner with said they were propositioned. They were in the whirlpool and the lady pulled her top down and aske how they liked her new "purchase" (my words). Then the couple was asked if they wanted to get together that night. They declined and avoided that couple the rest of the cruise.

We are full time RVers and have never had that happen to us either. Thank goodness!

Logistics; married, straight, conservative, GOP'er... get the image?

I get hit on by a gay man about three times a year, and usually on a cruise.

Offended? No, actually, it's a compliment. On our last cruise my 21 year old daughter was standing about 3 feet away and heard it. She laughed for almost an hour.

We have several G/L friends and all agreed it's a compliment.

Guess I have too many pairs of shoes...

Yes..a friend of mine and widow since her mid 40's was asked in her mid sixties to join a couple she had been friends with for years before her hubby died..like 30 plus years..dinner out or at each others homes a couple times a month..then one day they have her to their home just in the country outside of Salem, OR..in summer..bbq by the pool..and the husband leans back nude in the pool..and commences with all this we are all adults here and his wife is sitting next to her..in the shallow end steps...they give her the " you have been alone a long time talk"..long term "conservative" friends..and she has to run this shock by a friend 40 years younger, moi, outside of the loop...it was late 80's..I think it happens a lot but less than we think but need to be aware... because it all gets such attention now on boards like this...not the regular day to day subjects often..Sarah

Wow!!! You 2 must be just about perfect!! Such a burden! Why would you need a hand signal in order to leave? "Time for us to go" should do the trick. You don't know these people, beyond the short time spent with them on the cruise, so why worry. If you gave your wife the opportunity to "back out" and she didn't take it maybe she was more interested than you knew!
