Smoking on Allure of the Seas

We just booked Allure of the Seas on an ocean view balcony. When I called to book and found out that they allow smoking on the balcony but not inside the cabin. But I talked to several people and they said that they had already been on this ship and had balconies they did not have problem with the annoyance of people smoking.

We shall see.

Any thoughts on anyone out there that has experienced others smoking on the adjacent balconies that drifted over to their balcony and caused problems. :confused:

YES, we just returned from a wonderful week on the Allure. We were in cabin 7178, balcony. Everything was perfect EXCEPT we had a cigar smoker on one side and a cigarette smoker on the other. Why we paid extra money for the balcony that we could not use is beyond me. This is the ONLY complaint I have! I can put up with a little crowding, but paying hundreds of dollars extra for the privilege of having a balcony that I did not use is VERY frustrating. RCI are you listening??? We did complain to our stateroom attendant about the cigar smoking and it did seem to stop after the 4th day or so but the cigarettes were an issue throughout. Some people close to me are smokers so I understand but YOU all need to understand that when you smoke on your balcony you are affecting ME and that's unfair and inconsiderate.

Wow that is not what I wanted to hear. I hope we get lucky and are not next to smokers. I will let you know. We could always cancel and rebook with Celebrity that does not allow smoking in the cabin or on the balcony.

Also they do not allow smoking in the casino.

We may end up cancelling down the road since it is a long way off.

I would not book a balcony on a cruise line that allows smoking; I have done this a couple of times in the past and my use of the balcony was significantly impacted.

 

With Oasis and Allure there is no smoking allowed on the Boardwalk and Central Park balconies. The Boardwalk balconies all the way aft offer views both of the Boardwalk and the ocean, so if those are open, that is an option. I have one of these booked on Allure for next year.

I'm not a smoker, but from the other point of view ... cigarettes are allowed to be smoked on outside balconies and they paid their money to be able to smoke close to their room. I've been next to smokers and while it was occasionally annoying, I've never been completely unable to use the balcony.

While I'm not a smoker, I will jump up to defend anyone's right to smoke where it is allowed. If anyone is being inconsiderate, it's the cruise line and NOT the people who are excersizing their legal right to smoke where it's allowed.

Try going on Princess after Jan 15 & you'll have a smoke free cabin and balcony. The days of paying extra for a balcony & not being able to fully use it will be over.:)

You could have booked Central Park or Boardwalk where smoking is not allowed on balconys. Cruise lines have been changing their policies, there are many that do not allow smoking in cabin and balcony.

I would not book a balcony on a cruiseline that allows smoking on the balcony and then complain about it. Celebrity's your best mainstream choice, then Princess after Jan.2012. Previous poster is correct in saying it's not the smoker's fault. Your beef is with the cruiseline.

BUT please do something about it before your cruise. I only takes one smoker to ruin the air for the rest of us who just want to breathe. I used to buy suites until one smoker ruined my vacation. One (or more) human just dumped butts on my balcony. Now I buy a suite, but only on lines that keep the air clear. On RCCI, I get a cabin without a balcony or a cabin with a balcony on the inside (like Boardwalk or Central Park balcony)

I do not want an inside balcony. They stink......I like to sit on the balcony in the morning and drink my coffee while watching the ocean go by so I will take my chances that we are NOT BY ANY SMOKERS....

I will not complain if there are smokers because I am rolling the dice and hoping that we get lucky. Honestly in all of our past cruises which add up to about 16, where we have only had 5 balconies, we never had a problem with encountering smoking on the balconies.:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Just off the Allure last month and we had D8 Ocean Balcony in cabin 7130.

We did smell smoke throughout the cruise but not from the side, it was

from the decks below or above us. Dont let this issue cancel your cruise, Allure is a fabulous ship with SO much to offer. Honestly, there is so much to see and do, you might find that you barely have time to sit on your balcony. I do love the balcony for the views and taking great pictures.

The good news is that smoking continues to decline.

 

They just released statistics for New York City and they found that the adult smoking population has declined to 14%. Nationwide, it is under 25%

 

Having said that, one cigar smoker or a chain smoking individual can ruin the non-smokers enjoyment of their balcony.

You are correct cigar smokers are very inconsiderate people, they should have a room on the ship that they can smoke in.

With a lot of the other cruise line just recently adding smoking restrictions it surprises me that RCI hasn't followed in their footsteps, unless they plan on taking the slack & selling even more cabins to the smokers moving from other lines.

Grumpy, please don't cancel your cruise. Even though the smoking irritated us and we spent less time on our balcony than normal, we had a remarkable time. The entertainment, food and service we experienced was outstanding and we are booked on Oasis in January. It did not ruin our trip at all and even if you have a similar experience you'll still have a wonderful trip. You asked about a specific topic and I gave you our experience. I still think this is an issue that RCI should deal with somehow. My personal opinion is that I shouldn't have to find another cruise line. My feeling is that my actions should not infringe upon another passenger's enjoyment of their cruise and I would expect that same consideration from other passengers. I know others will disagree with me and cite the "rules" that smoking is permitted. Fine. I get it but it's my right to voice my opinion also. Have a great cruise!!

On my last cruise, the couple in the cabin next to mine thought it would be cute to feed the seagulls off their balcony...really?? I had bird poop on my ashtray!

 

It is unbelievable how people on here feel so "entitled"...good grief....we all just want to enjoy a cruise!!

Both statements are completely correct. I am a non-smoker too but it is absolutely out of our control. Starting a thread here about it does no good, sorry. :( YOU have a choice to make; no one else can make it for you, nor can you complain about smoking when it is permitted. *shrug*

It's the same on any RCI ship. A specific ship doesn't matter since they all allow smoking on ocean balconies for now.

I have always wondered if all the people who complain about the smokers have ever asked them to not smoke for a little bit. Maybe set up separate times to be on balcony. Or do you just do the fake coughing that really only makes the smokers mad. A little courtesy on both ends goes a long way.

I agree - but I think the smokers are just as entitled. One set of people (smokers) want to enjoy thsir balcony by enjoying a smoke. The set of people (non-smokers) want to enjoy their balcony without having to breathe a drug that they do not want in their body. I think we all have rights. I am just asking to allow the use of a balcony without the danger of second hand smoke.

My coughing is real - not fake. My health problems are real. If you ever have problems with breathing then you may understand. So many things can start a coughing jag, but once it starts I cannot stop coughing. It is embarrassing. It is painful. And, and in the case of second hand smoke, so preventable.

- RC which PERMITS smoking on their balconies.

- X where it is NOT allowed.
