Any Latest News / Rumours about the Forthcoming QM2 Refit ???

Apparentlty not much is going to change. I tried to find out on board but didn't hear anything that has already been discussed here. It's down to 11 days for hull stripping and repainting, maintenance, carpet replacement, and rumors of changes in the Winter Garden. With just an 11 day dry dock there won't be anything that involves substantial internal structural changes.

It is not long now before her refit but there doesn't seem to be much news around, or have I missed it??

Has anyone got any further information ??

Last week Peter Shanks ( on his We are Cunard blog) promised to give us a full update some time this week. Nothing today Monday, perhaps Thursday.

I hope P&O/Princess have a well thought out plan for this and take into consideration the feedback they've been getting about conditions onboard.

Keep checking the wearecunard.com website. About 3 weeks ago Peter Shanks said that he would post info about the refit and then took back that statement and said it would be posted later. I sure hope they will get rid of the "potholes" under the carpeting in the corridors and replace the stateroom furniture that has been nicked over the years. Would also love some hooks on the walls in the rooms like they have on the QE and QV - - very handy!

Hooks would be nice. I'd like to see two hooks on the I back of the bathroom door for laundry sacks. Also is their a laundry line in the shower to hang wet bathing suit. If not that would be a nice feature. Of course anything that improves Internet speed would be welcomed.

Yes there is a laundry line in the shower and there are also two hooks on the back of the bathroom door.

I also hope they put hooks on the bedroom wall like they do on the QV and QE.

Those potholes were really evident in the casino and in front of the elevators on deck 2 on our last trip. I was surprised that it was never mentioned.....also surprised that none of the ladies in high heels didn't twist an ankle. Apparently we all learned where they were located and just payed attention. :)

On our last trip the potholes in the casino near the cage were substantial. Also in front of the elevators on deck 2. I never heard anyone complain but I was very suprised that ladies in high heels didn't twist an ankle. Unless you were paying attention, it would be very easy to take a spill. But obviuosly it wasn't a problem. :)

Is this "nicked" as stolen or as damaged.

Just thinking how one could walk off the ship with a bed side table.

P&O/Princess?

David.

P&O/Princess combined decor and operational departments are in charge of Cunard. The decor on all Cunard's ships come directly from P&O and Princess. I believe this will be the second refit that they are in charge of evaluating and implementing for QM2. I hope they are aware of all the issues on QM2 right now and look at the elements that formed the disasterous health inspection earlier this year.

I was TA WB 20 September, asked about refit plans. Asked many. Not one had anything substantial to say. I did get a mention or two regarding the Winter Garden. Consensus had it deck plans and major public rooms will remain quite recognizable.

Not too sure about that ... Where did you hear that ? I don't live too far from southampton and there are quite a few employees from Carnival House who live in and around my area. Talking to a few guys & Gals in the local Pub this weekend there is no suggestion that P&O/princess are anyway involved with the new soft furnishing. Cunard have their own Ideas and their own team.

I'm afraid my lips are sealed ;) so I'm unable to say any more other than confirm what has already been said that we shouldn't expect 'too much' other than 'all' floors repaired and new carpeting through out. All bed covers to go and replaced with same style bed linen as new QE. New curtains and soft furnishing in and around some public rooms.

Pleeeeeease don't harp on about that health inspection, Cunard have everything under control. It's this area that will take up a major part of the refit.

I was abit shocked and disappointed when I first read on this board that Cunard's look is actually derived from P&O/Princess. The designer their named Theresa Anderson is repsonsible for the look on all the Cunard Queens and oversees all the refits that take place on them. Which from a financial point does make sense as it eliminates the need for Cunard to have its own design team. There seems to be some debate on the extent of their involvement with Cunard now but my last set of tickets (my wife says it was our very last) came in an envelope from Princess Cruises which leads me to believe there is still some cross over on the operations end at least. Didn't Cunard's Commodore come over from P&O as well? Didn't Peter Shanks? (They should have kept Mr. Shanks).

My tickets have always come from either my travel agent or directly from Cunard. But they have now been using e-tickets for over a year.

Re the admin side of things, I think it all depends in what country one lives in. For example (here in the UK) yesterday I received my pre voyage info booklets direct from the 'Cunard' department at Carnival House.

The large envelope still has Cunard and the logo/crest etc on it.

With all this talk of potholes in the floor... I best re-think my stilettos for my upcoming trips on the QM2... :D

We actually stumbled on those on our Nov.trip last year. Hopefully the refit will correct that problem.

The potholes were a big deal in August. Sorry about the double posts. CC didn't accept the first one and the second one didn't appear until the next day. Also, when I log in under my name, it states my name but posts under my husbands name. Are we the only ones having this problem since no one else has mentioned this.
