cc waddles Posted October 14, 2011 #1 Share Posted October 14, 2011 We are going on the victory next summer out of San Juan. We were going to fly in the day before just as a precaution but we were also thinking of staying a couple days after. Just to unwind from a port intensive cruise. The kids are 10 and 8. Any thoughts on this?

andie1969 Posted October 15, 2011 #5 Share Posted October 15, 2011 We spent a whole week in PR 2 years ago with our 3 kids, we all loved it! I'd do it!
sonicbuffalo Posted October 15, 2011 #6 Share Posted October 15, 2011 Yes...do it...I was stationed there while in the Coast Guard and you can go to the rain forest, and visit El Morro Castle. You can find all kinds of things to see and do..and it's not too far to drive to Arecibo, where the world's largest radio telescope is located. Just do some research and stay a few days. joeyancho Posted October 15, 2011 #7 Share Posted October 15, 2011 Puerto Rico has the only rainforest on US territory. It is beautiful. Take the kiddies to the rainforest.

JerseyshoreBruce Posted October 15, 2011 #10 Share Posted October 15, 2011 You might as well stay a few days being your there. Im not a big fan of Puerto Rico but could kill 2 days there!
cruisinbanddirectors Posted October 15, 2011 #11 Share Posted October 15, 2011 Definitely...we did a day pre and post cruise when we did our cruise out of San Juan and it was wonderful. Lots to do and see (and eat) and well worth it after a port intensive cruise as you mentioned.
Colorado Kat Posted October 15, 2011 #12 Share Posted October 15, 2011 Sounds wonderful! You already paid for the expensive airfare, so why not stretch our the vacation.
michiganirish Posted October 15, 2011 #13 Share Posted October 15, 2011 yes what they said - and that's a port intensive cruise. you'll appreciate the time between getting off the ship and getting back to real life...
DiverDownAZ Posted October 15, 2011 #14 Share Posted October 15, 2011 We arrived a couple days early and stayed over for a couple. Loved the island, so much to do.
sjn911 Posted October 15, 2011 #15 Share Posted October 15, 2011 Just lost the wife of dear family friends my folks age and they went to Puerto Rico for a month every year for quite a few years come to think of it..they really loved the quiet side (?) and i have just been there on a cruise day stop once...I could see doing quite a bit there..especially if you get the lay of the land for safety etc. ...I think it is a great idea, life is too short on the fun stuff..and this is not too much of a good thing...Sarah
JerseyshoreBruce Posted October 15, 2011 #16 Share Posted October 15, 2011 What turned me off there is the beaches near the port are more like the east coast of USA beaches and not the beautiful blue Caribbean water i love!

TheCalicoCat Posted October 17, 2011 #18 Share Posted October 17, 2011 Definitely! 1 day for the El Yunque rainforest (We did the cruise sponsored tour because we had a late flight - not long enough) & 1 for the fort - if you are beachy, 1 more for Rincon! hutat Posted October 17, 2011 #19 Share Posted October 17, 2011 You should definitely spend a few more days in PR,but I would recommend the western part of the island where the beaches are much more nicer.Definitely the rain forest which is in the eastern part of the island but the prettier part of the island, especially the beaches are in the western part of the island. Like calicocat said the beach in Rincon(El Combate),in Aguadilla(Crashboat),in Cabo Rojo(Boqueron and Buye). All of these are some of the most beautiful beaches in the caribbean so if you can spend a few more days in PR and you've already paid the airfare:eek: stay and enjoy it!!! russianmom Posted October 17, 2011 #20 Share Posted October 17, 2011 We always try to stay at least 1 day after disembarkation. It helps to ease the transition back to reality!!!
kathy884 Posted October 18, 2011 #21 Share Posted October 18, 2011 An absolute yes. I'd do it in a minute if I had the time and it was in the vacation budget. We did a wonderful full seven nights / six days in San Juan -- loved it. I like staying in San Juan even more than cruising. Qualificaton: I've never cruised out of San Juan, though. The only cruises I've been one started in Miami and Fort Lauderdale. And we do have our eye on a cruise out of San Juan as a possible future vacation (with some time in San Juan before or after). mommyto2girls Posted October 18, 2011 #22 Share Posted October 18, 2011 We are doing it in January to unwind, and avoid the airport. We got the Intercontinental on Priceline for post cruise for $115 a night and it was cheaper to fly home any day but Sunday. So we are staying an extra 2 days.
