Tipping for slot machine payout....

OK, it would be nice if I ever had to worry about tipping for a hand-payout since I never win at the slot machines but I'm just curious in case I EVER win enough for a hand payout. Do you tip? What percentage?

I won $750 on a quarter slot once...and this was back when the attendant had to bring you cash....I gave her $20.

Nowadays, with "ticket out" machines, you don't have an attendant to bring your cash...just take the ticket to the cashier. No need to tip for that.

I usually tip around $20 or $30 for hand pays. I have won over $1,500 and never receive an IRS form, I guess because the ships are not registered in the USA and we are in international waters.

I also tip a dollar everytime I order a glass of water or whatever from the bar while I am playing. Doesn't seem like much but the servers seem to appreciate it.

I also tip the technicians who fix a machine or reload it with cash (usually $5 or $10).

Good Luck

US citizens will receive an IRS form for over $1200 I believe it is. Has nothing to do with being in international waters for us. :(

For real?

They are loading machines with cash?? Did you tip the guy operating the time machine, too?

;)

I know it seems funny Jeff but these guys are so busy all the time on the floor and get little acknowledgement. I play about 4 hours a night so I get to see the techies a lot and appreciate their efforts to get there fast when a reload is needed. Who knows maybe it brings me good Karma. LOL.

Just curious as to what you folks are playing in the casinos on the ships? Pennies? 25 cents? Dollars etc? Cause man I haven't even won 30.00 bucks in their casinos, any tips leaving in 3??

You play whatever denomination suits your bankroll and the level of risk you enjoy. You can also elect to play less than maximum credits if you feel it helps you stretch your bankroll, although your returns will be smaller and on most machines you will not be eligible for the big jackpot payout unless you play max credit.

Do not expect to win on a shipboard casino. Machine payback percentage are low, as they have don't have to worry about you leaving for the casino next door!

Play only what you can afford to lose, and only for fun.

Why would you tip at all? Did the person who went to the cash drawer, took out the money, and gave it to you have any influence or part of your payout?

If you want to tip the proper person, you should tip the person who put the quarters into the machine so that you could win them or the person who built the machine so that you could play it.

I don't even tip at a casino if I win at a table. The person who deals at blackjack is essentially s dealing robot. He or she deals the cards, makes decisions based on defined rules, and has no influence into whether you win or loose.

In fact, at one casino, they actually tried replacing the poker dealers with computerized poker tables. It did not fly but if you consider that dealers are part of casino overhead and overhead costs money, we would be better off with robots.

I do tip people who provide me a service or personalized attention but that is not what you get at a casino.

I disagree.

At many times dealers on onboard casinos were pleasant and entertaining and I tipped them just because of the good moments. I am not in a casino to make money, but to have fun, and if somebody is a major part of my fun, I think it is fair to tip.

BUT if the dealer doesn't say 'hi', doesn't smile and acts like a machine, then I don't tip.

As a frequent gambler in Vegas-here's my experience. When i'm at a table with a live dealer, I tip accordingly. BJ-at the end when I leave, or sometimes, i'll place a bet for the dealer throughout my time at the table. (they will tell you they prefer this usually).

When I rec'd cash (back in the day when slots had cash in them) for a slot payout, i would tip the attendant who came to pay me....if they were personable. No personality, no smile-no tip. Their paycheck is for them providing the service, my tip is because they provided some extra service to me-a smile, congrats, etc.

While playing live table games (TExas hold em non tournament) for each pot won, it is customary to tip the dealer a small tip based on size of pot usually a couple of bucks.

Never on a cruise ship have i tipped for a slot machine-but then, i cannot recall ever winning on a cruise ship. dh did do very well at the computer hold em table and won quite a bit, but again, no live dealer, no one to tip but the waitstaff.

i don't often play black jack on the cruise ship because i do not like the way they operate...feeding the cards back into the shoe (sp?) after each hand. But when i do, i will tip if the dealer has been very entertaining and friendly to us. if not, he only earned his salary and no need for additional tipping.

I too look at gambling as entertainment. I hope to have fun. If i get lucky and win a few bucks, well, that's even better.

This is a follow-up to my question. I actually just got home from an 8 day cruise on the Valor and I won $1500 on a slot machine. I tipped $20. I learned on that cruise that all the tips go into a "pool" at the cashier's cage.

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO popsec: If I win at a game, regardless of the game, if it gets paid out by a floorman or dealer I usually leave a tip. The people that work on the ship, regardless of their position, appreciate it.
