Rare Turtles06 Posted November 2, 2011 #1 Share Posted November 2, 2011 We've just returned from our 5th cruise with NCL, which means we're moving from Bronze to Silver in the Latitudes "program." Will NCL send us anything? I vaguely recall reading conflicting comments on that here on CC, but could not easily find anything recent using the search engine. Just curious; thanks for any info. (The Silver "benefits" listed on NCL's web site don't seem terribly valuable.)
weltek Posted November 2, 2011 #2 Share Posted November 2, 2011 The way I understand it is they send you a "thank you card" with a note you can have a bonus OBC amount for "moving up" if you book another cruise in a certain period of time. Got Tequila? Posted November 2, 2011 #3 Share Posted November 2, 2011 We've just returned from our 5th cruise with NCL, which means we're moving from Bronze to Silver in the Latitudes "program." Will NCL send us anything? I vaguely recall reading conflicting comments on that here on CC, but could not easily find anything recent using the search engine. Just curious; thanks for any info. (The Silver "benefits" listed on NCL's web site don't seem terribly valuable.) You can get some OBC if you book a cruise within 6 months. They may or may not actually send you out a card, we've never received one....but you can get the OBC since when you book it's tied to your latitude account. OnBoard Credit Offers are for new bookings only. Beginning January 24, 2010, based upon your membership level in the Latitudes Program, you will receive one of our post-cruise Thank-You Notes with corresponding onboard credit when you graduate a Latitudes tier. The coupon is valid for 6 (six) months after completion of the cruise and can not be extended. Only 1 (one) onboard credit Latitude coupon can be redeemed per reservation. To take advantage of this offer and ensure receipt of Latitudes benefits on board, please provide Latitudes membership number at time of booking. Offer applies to Latitude members only upon qualifying for next highest tier (Bronze achieved after 1st completed cruise; Silver after 5th completed cruise; Gold after 9th completed cruise; Platinum after 14th completed cruise). Onboard credit offer in U.S. Dollars, per stateroom, based on cruise length and Latitudes program tiers. Onboard Credit may be spent for ANY onboard purchases. Onboard credit must be used or the remaining balance will be forfeited. Offer may be used by individuals, participants in qualified group bookings, by single guests and for use with third and fourth guest bookings. Singles paying 200% are entitled to full onboard credit value, except for Category TS/T1. Singles in Category TS/T1 receive 50% of full onboard credit value per stateroom. Onboard service charges are additional and will be automatically added to guest onboard account. Offer does not have monetary value and is non- transferable. 1-2 Day sailings are excluded. Offer excludes NCL Reduced Rate programs (e.g. casino, employee rates, interline, friends /family rates, vendor rates, or cruises taken via cruise credit certificate) and charters. Combinability with other offers is subject to change or cancellation at any time per NCL discretion. Cancellation fees will follow NCL schedule listed in the brochure and on website. NCL strongly recommends the purchase of Travel Protection on all bookings. Other restrictions may apply. In case of cancellation, onboard credit will be added back to the guest account

We did not however, receive it until 5.5 months after the cruise that moved us up to silver. If we did not already know about the OBC that is available IF you book a new cruise within 6 months of the cruise that moves you up to a new level of Latitudes, we would have had two weeks to book 2 cruises since DH and I both moved up with the same cruise. As it was our PCC checked to see that the OBC was available (after I mentioned it to him because of finding out on CC) so we were booked 4 months before we ever received the card. Got Tequila? Posted November 2, 2011 #7 Share Posted November 2, 2011 what's the OBC amount? I believe it depends upon the length of the cruise, and the type of cabin your booking.
Rare Clay Clayton Posted November 2, 2011 #8 Share Posted November 2, 2011 I think it depends on what category you book. For us, it was $75 when we booked at balcony. Seems like others (suites maybe?) have gotten more. Also, I think the amount of "graduation" OBC goes up as you rise in levels.
themaxydog Posted November 2, 2011 #9 Share Posted November 2, 2011 I noticed when I got back from my last cruise, in "My NCL" my latitudes level had changed from bronze to silver. I booked my next cruise within 2 months of getting home there was no OBC attached to the booking apart from what the web site stated all Latitudes members automatically received. It is over six months now and I haven't heard from Latitudes at all. As above, I think it is something you may or may not get.
candygirl27540 Posted November 2, 2011 #10 Share Posted November 2, 2011 Never heard of automatically receiving it.You have to mention it when you book the cruise within the 6 month window. Did you receive a card in the mail from NCL? We never did,but I knew to ask for the OBC when I booked. The PCC made a few keystrokes and said "Oh yes,I see you are eligible for this" after I mentioned it. Perhaps you should call back and explain the situation and maybe they will still apply it.

I agree with candygirl. Since you actually booked within the time frame required, I would call and ask that the move up OBC be applied to your booking. I would call the Latitude desk at 1-866-234-7352 or 1-866-234-0292to see if they can apply it. If you booked with a TA you may have to have them call, but I would try calling myself first. I just noticed that you are from Austrailia. I think I remember reading on here that this OBC is only for US guests.......but I'd still call to verify it. aknz Posted November 2, 2011 #12 Share Posted November 2, 2011 Yep, it's because you're an Aussie, we don't get them either. It's an Anti Antipodean Arrangement...... (I did have conspiracy but like the assonance lol) I will check with my US online TA (the one that saves me thousands each cruise over what I'd pay with a TA here) when we are about to move up again but I'm pretty sure it is only for US and Canadian guests. I thought I'd heard that the British weren't getting it either but i may be wrong. Happy cruising:)

The OP does not state his/her location but outside of the US Latitudes incentives are woeful apart from a few mainland Europe locations where a booking discount is available depending upon Latitudes level! Aussies, Kiwis and Brits get nowt. It's a Brit Bashing Bonanza ;).
wrestlemom Posted November 4, 2011 #15 Share Posted November 4, 2011 I do beleive this is the same as the latitudes OBC. I just booked and only received the latitudes OBC and became a silver after our last cruise in May 2011. I did ask my PCC and she said it was the same. If anyone knows that it is different I would really appreciate the correct answer.
Sam The Cat Posted November 4, 2011 #16 Share Posted November 4, 2011 My GF and I cruised a month ago which made her silver. In todays mail she received a letter which offered her OBC, based upon the room, good only for the next 6 months, luggage tags and little magntics which contain sayings of NCL ie "Freestyle crusing" "This is my vacation" I will get mine on our next cruise in 16 months

This OBC can only be granted to those that have moved up to a new Latitude level within the past 6 months. If the cruise that moved you up to Silver was in May 2011, you have until the date of the end of the cruise, ie. cruise was May 1-8 you would have until November 8, 2011 to book and have the "move up" OBC applied. I would call back the PCC and have her get the OBC applied for you. The OBC amount depends on the cabin level you book ranging from $25 for an inside to $150 for a suite. We asked the gentleman who processed our f.c.c.s about the change in level, but I can't remember if he said anything about the OBC for tier change not being allowed when using a certificate. In the portion of the above I highlighted in red, it says not combinable. Does that refer to future cruise credit deposit, or some other kind of credit certificate  Thanks in advance for any help. OP - I'm not sure if we've received a letter regarding a move to the next level. We have seen that the member level showing on NCL's website has changed, just as another poster had happen. So maybe the letter isn't needed. Just need to mention the OBC when booking a cruise? That's what I intended to do, anyway.
Rare Turtles06 Posted November 5, 2011 Author #20 Share Posted November 5, 2011 I appreciate all the info above. I called NCL and they confirmed that I would have a "moving up" OBC, and gave me the date by which I would have to book another cruise to get it (they said 7 months, but I will reconfirm that) and when I'd have to sail (a couple of years). Interestingly, I was also told that while my partner, who has been on the same 5 cruises I have (duh), also has the "moving up" OBC, we CANNOT use hers and mine on the same new reservation. Given that we are each Latitudes members, that cruise fares are pp, that we have each earned our new Silver status, that there's a pretty short deadline in which to book or lose these OBCs (which are hardly a lot of money in any event), this seems a rather ungenerous rule. I imagine it's pretty common for spouses/partners to move up to a new Latitudes class at the same time. I suspect it's also very common for one of the "moving up" OBCs to go unused because of the one-per reservation rule and short booking deadline. Has anyone had a different experience with a spouse/partner's OBC?
Sam The Cat Posted November 5, 2011 #21 Share Posted November 5, 2011 Just checked our 03/17/13 reservations and we have a extra $150 OBC got $300 OBC do to the sale about a week ago which means free martini class(es) and free Cagney dinner using the OBC:D

We booked Oct 22, 2011 with my OBC and Dec 2, 2012 with my DH's. It really wasn't hard to do since you just have to book within the 6 months - not sail. We also had Future Cruise Deposits so neither booking took any "new" money out of our pockets. To AZURE MOON -regarding the Future Cruise Deposits you purchase for $150 but are worth $250........you can use them and get the move up OBC. We did it with both of the cruises we booked. These are not the same as the "cruise credit certificates" mentioned in your quote.
